Dont know if you realised that you listen to the whole of Lilly Allen's new album on her myspace:- http://www.myspace.com/lilymusic Ladyhawke I've seen live last year before she started getting famous.Really good album, synth meets rock meets Stevie Nicks meets Gary Numan. Out of the rest of the crop I like Little Boots most. Brian

Ones to look out for:
Frankmusik Fever Ray - side project from The half of The Knife Decimals
There are many more if you have the patience to look... Alright Si? I like the albums by White Lies, Lady GaGa, Franz Ferdinand and Keane but I'm not so taken by Knife. I also have Frankmusik and Lily Allen on order. Given this, which of the others are worth giving a spin?

Please listen to Innerpartysystem, bunch of lads from the USA, I had tickets to see them in Leeds on Monday night (2nd Feb), however due to that stuff called snow me and my daughter just could not get there. Difficult to describe their sound but it's sort of like a grungy synth rock. They do a cover of Joy Divisions Transmission and it tears up your speakers.

Ta much for the recommends, here are a few new(ish) things that will continue to occupy space on the ipod in 09.
Amazing how many good synth bands have emerged from down under in the last year or so, to name a few:
Midnight Juggernauts - their album 'Dystopia' has a great intro.
Van She - jangly synthpop, not half bad.
Cut Copy - epic synthpop that wears its influences on its sleeve.
Pivot - instrumental, a bit proggy, Vangelis early Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze etc. are obvious influences.
Grafton Primary - their album Eon features some great synth and there's sequencers abound.
The Presets - have a couple of albums out, first is the best, muscular synthpop.
From France:
M83 - his new album 'Saturdays = Youth' is a gem, all the others are pretty good too.
Anoraak - 'Nightdrive With You' is a big favorite at the moment and the track 'Never Ending Romance Disaster' has to be up there for song title of the year.
And from Germany:
Bookashade - they do a lot of dance music as well as albums of original material, can recommend their last one 'The Sun & The Neon Light' for those who like to do a little hip shaking while they do the dishes.

I think we’re in the most exciting period of synthetic material since the 1978-82 heyday. The best new acts all seem to be female led which gives an exciting new take on the genre. 80’s electronic music was very male and any females that did get involved like Annie Lennox or Alison Moyet had a bluesy vocal style which was quite ‘butch’ so that’s why this new female variety is so fresh So the future’s female, the future’s electro! Here’s the pick of my bunch: LITTLE BOOTS This girl really is the future of electronic music. She’s a dream come true, the pretty synth geek!! Like a one-girl Goldfrapp with nods towards Giorgio Moroder, she uses a fantastic new sequencing instrument by Yamaha called a Tenorion. www.myspace.com/littlebootsmusic LA ROUX Some say her voice is very shrill but it’s certainly unique. Rhythmically, there’s shades of Prince, Blancmange and Heaven17 while there’s lots of analogue riffage on top. Thinks “girls look wicked playing synths!” www.myspace.com/larouxuk MARSHEAUX Greek female synthesizer duo influenced by Human League, Depeche Mode and OMD. Very popular in Germany and label mates of Client at ‘Out Of Line’ Records. Second album “Peek-A-Boo” was critically acclaimed and third album due in 2009. Have also collaborated with OMD on a new version of “She’s Leaving” www.myspace.com/marsheaux PARRALOX Imagine if Madonna had joined The Human League around “Dare”? This girl/boy Australian duo use the classic 80’s electronic sound like Linn drums and Fairlight for a vibrant style of modern electronic pop. www.myspace.com/parralox RED BLOODED WOMEN Yes, they’re a girl group but have a big synthetic slant, they even have a song called “Synthesizer”! Largely produced by one-time Human League support act Trademark, their next single is a superb cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence” while their own sound has nods to other acts from the Mute Records roster. www.myspace.com/redbloodedwomenmusic KATJA VON KASSEL ‘Electro Weimar Cabaret’ best describes opera schooled Katja. She sings in both German and English, often within the same song. “Lili Marlene” and “Goodbye Was Never Said” are dark but accessible electro. In the words of her own MySpace page, it’s the 1930’s meets the future! www.myspace.com/katjamusic All these acts have been featured on “Electronically Yours” www.league-online.com which covers new and classic electro.

Total pleasure. PARRALOX got 9000 hits on their website the other day cos of a mention on the Perez Hilton blog! www.parralox.com On another note, I went to see KATJA VON KASSEL tlast night. Totally brilliant, she's got a fantastic new song called "Lies" which is very 'European' in a classic sense with French accordians and 'Vienna' type piano over an electro tango beat. It's on her myspace if you want to listen www.myspace.com/katjamusic

My favourite poppy synth+guitar type band at the moment are Mesh: http://www.mesh.co.uk/ I'd describe them as somewhere between Ultravox and Nine Inch Nails.

Stop press: LITTLE BOOTS has recorded a duet for her long awaited debut album with none other than Phil Oakey from THE HUMAN LEAGUE. This young lady is certainly pushing all the right synth pre-set buttons for me at the moment Difficult to tell from this 20 second snippet as to what it's going to turn out like but it's all sounding very promising http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3485&Itemid=206

I saw LITTLE BOOTS at London Heaven last night and she was fantastic. Victoria was very entertaining and engaging. Her debut album "Hands" is shaping up to be excellent with lots of excellent new synth driven ditties like "Remedy", "Earthquake" and "Tune Into My Heart" as well established soon-to-be electro classics "Stuck On Repeat" and "Meddle". We had the added bonus of Phil Oakey joining her on stage for their belting duet "Symmetry" I've seen the future of pop and her name is LITTLE BOOTS Review on 'Electronically Yours' www.league-online due at the weekend with some excellent pics by Dickie who took some corkers of ULTRAVOX during the "Return To Eden" shows.
