Re: Landed - Fri, 08 Oct 2004 23:17:00

Thanks for all the greetings!
The responce to my new samples are very positive. I am happy.
I still feel the same about the Live Aid DVD. Typically there are a lot of unanswered questions which makes it very undermining for musicians that gave there talent for nothing. Midge would only meet me if I signed the contract ( he said that in a letter from Berenice his manager at the very last minute) where as I said to him in a letter that I would sign if he answered these few questions I had like "What do you think of the ethics behind a Company ( Warners) making money fot themselves & there shareholders out of this Live Aid Charity GIG & are the production companies making the programmes about the event doing it to make money for themselves or are they giving a percentage to charith". I just wanted a reply in writing. I gave him two weeks to reply. There was no mention from the lawyer John Kennedy that Midge was on holiday. There allways has been a feeling from Midge that because it is for charity he cannot be questioned. A bit of a dangerous area to get in to for self promoting pop musicians. Charity Fascism. I noticed, and felt very aggrieved, that Midge and the Management company had started promoting Midge Ure above Ultravox from 1982. Ultravox performed to help starving people. This seems to escape Midges attention when he does interviews because at the time ( and even now ) Bob & Midge enjoyed the power they had over the famous acts and definately got a kick out of seeing them scurrying and hustling into position, lineing up so to speak, to be a part of Band Aid & Live Aid. Bob had been in the wilderness for two years and Midge mistakenly felt he had Ultravox in his pocket and so it seemed the perfect time, as the world thought the sun shone out of his a--e hole, to put the boot in and drop us like a brick. Ultravox were never thanked for the performance it was more like we were lucky to be invited and what great free promotion you all got! It,s the pop muscians version of human nature. Irish and Scottish style. They wanted to be loved, the most, more than anyone else, by the English establishment.
1984 was a strange year. What a swing to the exreme right, It had a lot to do with the Aids scare. Guilt about all the decadent partying from that time. I first met Bob in that year. It was at Midges party,s. Midge & Annabel Giles, Bob & Paula used to sit in the kitchen all night. Bob loudly rubbished Ultravox in front of me many times, saying we were burnt out and finished. Midge agreed like he was not a member of the group. When the party,s eventually got in to full swing Bob got the knives out on me saying I was a wreck! Bob openly told Midge to quit the band and do something else. Midge was laying him self open so as to be used by Bob, who was pretty powerful in his mouthy way, as Bob new that Midge lacked confidence in his own talent. Bob knew Midge wanted to be successful in his own right, without Ultravox, but because he was,nt a song writer was afraid of making the move. Midge chose to discuss it with Bob and Chris Cross and not with the Band. As well as the fantastic work Band Aid/Live Aid did for charity, and I applaud that, the Band Aid project gave him the confidence to s--t on Ultravox the group that made him.

I orderd it from Amazon. I have to have it though, don,t I!!

The one to get started on my music:- PUSH then STILL MOVEMENT and then go right back to Transportation and up to present time.
I have allso ordered Midge,s book. I,ll get it on the 11th.

Re: Landed - Fri, 08 Oct 2004 23:51:00

Very candid Billy. The stuff about Bob Geldof is kind of shocking. I've had views on that guy for a long time but I won't express them on here. I might get accused of something myself. All I will say is I thought his wedding guest list was interesting... As you say though, you can't knock what Live Aid was all about.

Your website is great by the way. I really appreciate the amount of detail on there. It makes a refreshing change to read about an artist's ideas and thought processes in putting a piece of music together. It makes a real difference to the enjoyment of music for me to have an insight into this stuff. Not with lyrics mind you, I don't like being told what they're all about because I make up my own meanings!

The Ultravox 'stuff' is a real shame for people like me who grew up loving the music and continued to love it in adult life. There are only two bands from the late 70s and early 80s that I would love to see back together (at least once) and there's about zero probability of that happening with either of them (one of them is Ultravox of course). However, the music is still there and will never go away and for that I'm grateful. It was and will always be extremely important music for me.

Anyway, thanks again for dropping by.

Re: Landed - Sat, 09 Oct 2004 00:03:00

Gosh.

In some respects its refreshing to read honest opinions from someone in the band (just as we've had with Warren over the years). It makes a change from the sanitised versions the public generally here when bands are no longer together.

Ironic that Geldof could accuse Ultravox of being washed up when Boomtown Rats were well past their sell by date and had been for years at that point. icky

2 things are certain:-

Midge did get his high profile from being in Ultravox, and

Ultravox left a great legacy of music and musicianship that all members of the band should be proud of.

Re: Landed - Sat, 09 Oct 2004 00:31:00

You can also add this:

Midge's solo career has never scaled the heights of Ultravox (unless you compare it to U-Vox...).

I find it fantastic that Midge took career advice in 1984 from someone who hadn't had a hit single since 1982, and is not considered either a good solo artist or even a good songwriter. Mind, Sir Bob is/was an opinionated tw*t, so would do you expect? banghead

Hi Billy

It's so great to have you join in here. I think Flip summed it up well - "refreshing", so do share more perspectives on the good + not so good of your times with the band.

For you it must have been quite a journey - coming from a new wave band through the heady days of 81 / 82 / 83 + then through the change in direction + the demise of the band.

Your contribution to Gary Numan's "On Broadway" live is till one of the most moving pieces of music I've heard so a big thank you.

Hi Billy
Nice to "see" you here. Loved the sound of your electric viola, for me it's what gave Ultravox their distintive sound. I agree with your comments about Live aid. At the time in my opinion it made a lot of bands very rich especially Queen. It will be nice to hear some more revelations about certain going's on behind the scenes.

Just like to say because of Ultravox and your contribution in particular, I took up the hobby! of playing synths. It's cost me loads of money over the years but who cares I love me toys.
On the Bob Geldof/Midge issue nothing suprises me, I reckon most people could relate to this type of situation in their own workplace. Sometimes I wonder how the Media works it seems if Bob farts it is seen as a saintly act.
Finally 'Spongebobsquarepants,' great or what.

Re: Landed - Sat, 09 Oct 2004 05:20:00

Hi Billy!
That's very interesting. How did You manage to go on with Ultravox after all this? And what do You think of U-Vox now? Most of us here do not like the album at all. When Geldof said Ultravox was burnt out, did he mean that You have done everything that could be done by releasing four (or seven) great albums with different styles, or did he want to say that "Lament" was not good?
If he meant that You have done everything that could be done and we now compare U-Vox with all the other, previous stuff I think there's a bit of truth in there. I hope You understand what I want to say, it's not so easy to express myself in this case.
Do You still have contact to the musicians of "Revelation" and "Ingenuity"?
And may I ask what Synths You used on "Majestic"?
You write that Midge wasn't a songwriter. I think he has written some very good songs, e.g. "Guns and Arrows". Maybe there was some time to grow... smile .

When they were on TOTP with "Sleepwalk", the tv-presenter mentions "Midge Ure" ("a very clever young man from Scotland") at least as often as the name "Ultravox".

Well, I exactly know what You mean! I wrote this on my homepage:
With seventeen I stopped learning the guitar and started playing keyboard. The influences for this decision were bands like 'The Human League' (mainly their first albums), 'Depeche Mode' and the world's best band, 'Ultravox'. (I was seventeen in 1995 by the way).

Re: Landed - Sat, 09 Oct 2004 05:24:00

Is Still Movement completely instrumental, Billy? I do recall reading that you had recorded some vocals by your daughter...or did I dream that?

What are you listening to these days? Other threads have mentioned that Hopes and Fears by Keane and Hot Fuss by the Killers sound a little Ultravox-like. What do you reckon?

Nils - from memory, he was kinda "known" as someone who had been around on the scene for a few years. Slik in the UK were almost "1 hit wonders" - not popular over any length of time. His next band Rich Kids were seen as a bit of a "punk supergroup" but weren't widely popular. The public face of Visage was really Steve Strange when they first hit with Fade To Grey - by which time Ultravox Mk 2 were off and running. He wasn't completely unknown before Ultravox, but Ultravox boosted Midge's profile many times over.

Re: Landed - Sat, 09 Oct 2004 19:31:00

Thanks, Flip!

But on the other hand we can also say (I think) that Midge also made Ultravox successful. Not because he was already popular, but because of his charisma, his voice, his look and his unique guitar style. Sadly I'm no "witness" of that time, so I don't know that. But I can imagine it.

Re: Landed - Sat, 09 Oct 2004 21:31:00

Thank you for that very candid view on the Live Aid issue, Billy, and for your perspective on how the meltdown inside the band at that time began to happen.

I found the comments about the Irish/Scottish need to be accepted by the English Eshtablishment very perceptive, and, from my own memories and experiences of that time, that view is something I have debated with various people over the years.
Being of English/Irish/Scottish extraction, it something that I am aware of. I think that Band Aid and Live Aid was done with courage and all the best intent in the world, but somewhere along the way it started leaving me with some doubts about some peoples integrity.

Might explain why, after those kitchen table conversations, we got Uillean pipes and The Cheiftans on U-Vox. Did you struggle with that? Or was it an experience as a musician you enjoyed?

As for Midge's book, a compare and contrast with Bob's orginal autobiography 'Is that it' might be an interesting exercise. I re read it not long after Paula's death and found it a very sad read.

I listened to 'The Closer I Get To You' seven times over in the car this morning, whilst driving down a long single track road in the foothills with the sun shining,, and it was Fan-bloody-tastic!

Thanks for all those fan-bloody-tastic gigs way back then, lots of good memories!!!

Hope life has been good to you, and will check out the new album.

Samantha.

Well, well, that's the first time I've ever hung on to every word of a post on this forum.....need a stiff drinkie now boy.......gulp....AAAH, that's better. smile

Not wishing to recreate a sh*t-slinging session again regarding Billy Currie on this forum, but it was obvious to all who had some common sense that there was a lot of foundation and reason [not excuse] for Billy's recent comments on his website regarding the LIVE AID dvd release. Even Billy's comments above may annoy, shock, stagger certain people on this forum but I'm glad he's put his ten pence worth in the mixer. There's lots of contrasting opinions, accusations etc and whether or not anything becomes of this is another matter. Again, I'm as happy as anyone that Billy did appear and speak up. Now, not trying ti lick William's arse or nowt a must say that I personally have always thought Billy was more talented as a musician than Midge ever was.
Don't get me wrang tho'.....av got plenty o' time for 'Some' of Midge's tunies, but not many.

A great popular 'Misconception'. The opinion that a 'Frontman' is the most popular and talented band member....no thanks !!!

On a first visit to Midge's chatroom the other night I found it occupied by seven guests, all ladies The pig joins in and immediately felt like a thorn atween sivven rose buds shocked The subject matter was suddenly Billy vs Midge vs TALENT. On waiting my turn and then giving my opinion [ as above, biased towards Billy] I was strangely challenged with an air of anger by one young damsel who fired the opening salvo.....

"Well, has Billy Currie had a solo number one hit like Midge has, I THINK NOT. No way is he more talented than Midge"

To which I replied.......

"So then, your opinion leads me to think that a person who has a number one hit is more talented than a person who hasn't had a one, yes ???
Well, if that's the case, JOE DOLCE has had a number one hit, ULTRAVOX never did [and we all know why ] My point being....does that make JOE DOLCE more talented than ULTRAVOX ??/

I THINK NOT I rest my case wink

Finally, there's no particular message about what I've just said. Only, the world revolves on opinions and differences. You can't please everyone all the time eh. Some people will agree with Billy's comments, others may not.
One things for sure though, it makes bluddy gud readin......

HEY BILLY, WIPE THOSE CUBAN HEELS ON THE RED CARPET SQUIRE wink

Keep it up sunna !!!!

Re: Landed - Sun, 10 Oct 2004 00:02:00

What's the point of pitting one person up against another anyway? (And no, I'm not accusing anyone of doing so.) To me, the whole "Billy vs. Midge" thing is pointless. Every single member of Ultravox, from 1976 to 1984, was/is talented in their own right. No one single member is better than another. I am not taking anyone's side or defending Midge's merit. I'm only stating an opinion.

Piggie: I definitely agree that whether or not someone hits Number One, doesn't necessarily dictate how talented they are. The Joe Dolce farce proved it. A lot of crappy songs go to Number One!!

Re: Landed - Sun, 10 Oct 2004 13:10:00

Hi Bill! Glad to see you on here! I think I only owned 1 Boomtown Rat album in my life, and that is because a College Professor was not into his Punk/New Wave roots anymore. He got into religion, and felt that stuff should just be thrown out, or given to someone who missed out on some great music, because Pittsburgh is horrible in the music scene and everything else it tries to do.

Anyway, all my Ultravox albums were bought at Peaches records and tapes, National Record Mart, or at Eide's which has loads of imports you can't stop dreaming about.

Gee there Bob. Ultravox washed up huh? Why is it I have ALL THEIR STUFF AND ONLY HAVE 1 OF YOURS? And Bob, your record didn't die of over-play either.

It's probably in the basement. Probably. I have no reason to look, but if one ULTRAVOX CD goes missing...WELL IT HAS TO BE FOUND! I don't care if it gets to be 4:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, I need that CD!

The CD's get played now, and the vinyl sits happily in the corner as nice as can be. The cover art is the old-skool BIG size. At the time, they smelled pretty damn good! Remember in a record store? You go in, and the smell of new cellophane, vinyl and cardboard was like an aphrodesiac? Which is why you went in with one record in mind and came out with 5.

Not only that, you could BUY an album you had no idea about, and see if you liked it? Well that happened with ULTRAVOX! that was in Peaches records and tapes, and because of the cool neon, I asked for it at Christmas, but my Aunt shopped downtown, so I got Vienna the new album at the time along with 3 Into 1.

With the Christmas money I went back and bought ULTRAVOX. That never happened with any Boomtown Rat album. It was ok...I don't like Mondays, the song my mom hated, and a few others, but Kraftwerk, what was that like? Again Peaches introduced me and my brother to Kraftwerk without ever hearing a note from them. It was a great red and black cover that's all.

Gary Numan's CARS was on radio, and that was a great song! But radio was on his side. By accident, a Hard Rock station played White China and I knew it was Ultravox. Even pulled the car over at Keener's hardware store to listen to see if I was right.

So the all powerful Bob, when it came to your record bin, it didn't mean that much to me!

As for the stuff I have Revelation and Ingenuity:

Revelation has good songs. I played it last night, and True Believer has to be one of my fave songs on it.

Ingenuity was the closest thing to Trance Techno, and likeable all the way around. Great song.
Do more Techno!

Now if my brother uses the tapes I gave him of my stuff, maybe something good will come from it. Mini samples that I played with, and some snippets of game play from various settings on my phone. My phone has some great sounds! Does anyone here ever sample their phone and make a full song from it? Just wondering. smile

Re: Landed - Sun, 10 Oct 2004 20:18:00

No,
But the new phone my colleague at work got delivered on friday had quite a good sequencer on it!

And you can make calls from it too...wonderful!

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 00:18:00

It's like Bill has been saying, both here and on his site (which is great). The public don't know the half of what went on to bring the Live Aid DVD to market and I don't suppose they will
ever know.

I am greatly saddened that Ure and even Geldof could've trashed Ultravox so publically...if you call a private party public! For Ure to stand there and hear such crap being spouted by someone whose own band came to grief just a year after Band Aid (In The Long Grass anyone? I saw it for 50p!) is indeed ironic and not a little myopic. It's also greatly disloyal; like you say, he was a bit of a journeyman before Vox
consolidated and re-established his rep and he should be bloody grateful and not out to trash his former band-mates.

It also saddens me that Ure sought to use Band/Live Aid to further his own career. He is not above reproach just because of the many mills
raised to fight famine in Africa.

Bill: as I have told you personally, forget him.
You will always be held as the true genius behind Ultravox and that's not to diss the work
of Chris, Warren or indeed Stevie, Robin or John.
You are the very soul and essence of the band
that was my life and for which I will always
hold a special place in my heart.

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 01:40:00

Hi Billy

Re your points

1) How can Ultravox have been on slide in 84 when DWTIME was top 5, and lament was arguably best album.

2)I can FINALLY find out who came up with All Fall Down, in my eyes the worst Ultravox song EVER, and the start of the end, my guess is a certain scotsman!

3) Just got off ebay Revelation & Ingenuity, this is how Ultravox should have gone forward!Incidentally, do you still retain the rights to the Ultravox name?

Great you've got involved, cheers

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 01:54:00

One point I'd like to make.

I don't think that Billy's much-welcomed decision to join in should be seen as an excuse for a bit of a free-for-all on Midge. None of us (well maybe the vast majority of us) is in the least bit involved in any issues that remain concerning the Ultravox legacy. I find these issues a real shame considering my huge affection for the band but I really don't have the first idea about the people behind the issues. I'm not siding with Midge and am expressing no opinion about who is right and who is wrong. All I'm saying is I believe we should discuss Billy's work and his massive contribution to the band on this forum, not Midge.

However, Mr Geldof is another matter mad

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 02:37:00

Right, 1.Outside!

Can't anyone here tell Billy Currie how much he appreciates him without bashing Midge Ure? I can't imagine that the music would have been the same without him. Every single musician of Ultravox was an important part of the band, the music and the sound.
Characteristics for the music of Ultravox are Billy's ARP and viola/violin solos, Midge's voice and guitar-style, Warren's (electronic) rhythms and Chris' (Minimoog-)basslines.
Leave one out and the result wouldn't be the same.
(but "Ingenuity" is the only post-Lament album that has an "ultravoxian style" - at least in my opinion).

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 02:53:00

Thing is 1.Outside and Nils, I re-read the thread and I can't see anyone really doing any Midge bashing, although you seem to have come to that conclusion. There are certain facts/opinions that have been written, that's it.

I disagree but I don't really want to start a big debate about this on Billy's thread.

You call them 'opinions' which is fair enough I suppose but some of those 'opinions' are fairly 'Midge bashing'.

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 04:26:00

I too dont think any of the opinions posted on the thread are really midge bashing, just opinions as already stated.I like the fact that on this forum people air their opinions, whether they are good or bad points and people chat about them on here without things getting nasty,in all the time ive been visiting this site thats always been the case.Ultravox were a group/band ,a collectiveness of talent that gelled together to bring us that unique sound we all know and have loved for so long,in my opinion what went on behind the public eye doesnt really matter, the fact that the group existed and gave us such enjoyment matters more than that, the time would have come to call it a day sometime whatever the circumstances of the demise would have been.John, billy, chris, warren, stevie, robin and midge all played their part in that legacy that was left behind not any one single person.Just my own "opinion".Cheers.
Posted by: Nils

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 04:53:00

Maybe You are right. But to me it seemed as if especially the last posts would be made appreciate Billy and bash Midge at the same time. Or didn't I understand correctly? confused2
And I don't see a reason why a musician can't be appreciated without bashing an other musician.

I don't think that U-Vox is only Midge Ure's fault. It's no solo LP, it's the work of a band (or 3/4 of THE band wink ).
Posted by: smiler

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 05:03:00

Thats true Nils, pretty sure there was more than one mans name on the writing credits on the u-vox album wink .Also i agree the ingenuity album sounds more ultravox than revelation, but i do like a few songs off the revelation album.Particularly like the ingenuity title track off that cd,some classic ultravox type sounds on the album to.Cheers.

Re: Landed - Wed, 13 Oct 2004 19:58:00

It reminds me of how complicated it is to be in a band, and the legal stuff makes it even more complicated/discouraging etc. I often splitted from bands when it begins to be problematic to find one's place in the group (life's too short). for a while I thought the ultravox "all 4 get the same" was great but apparently it is not immune of the same problems. I guess it can't be avoided?. lucky when it doesn't happen.
On a different topic, Billy, I hope you'll drop a line about the cover competition going on this site. what if somebody does something really fantastic, or really horrible ? :-)
see you

Re: Landed - Sat, 16 Oct 2004 04:47:00

I hope I have not been misunderstood, was not Midge bashing, some of his solo stuff I loved, particulay just for you off "answers", but was merely trying to gauge where the change of direction came from. Still think Billys stuff on revelation and ingenuity was better than most of Midges latest offerings post pure, which came out in the same time frame as afore mentioned, but hey, we all have a point of view!

Re: Landed - Wed, 20 Oct 2004 02:28:00

Hi Everyone,
Just got the release date for STILL MOVEMENT
15th November
I don,t mind a tribute band cors not! Not sure about playing Viola with them though.
Got Midges Book today.
Nice to see the posts here saying I influenced people in to playing synths so much.
I did record my daughters voice for STILL MOVEMENT but decided to wait a little time and work with her on my next album.
I think that the first video/film of Ultravox performing Sleepwalk was at the Top Rank Brighton. Not St Albans. Maybe Wrong!
I would be up for a copy! I would,nt mind a copy of the socalled Mine For Life DVD either.
Thanks everyone for the good responce to my album snips :- Joby, ( yeah its total instrumental) Christine, Harry from New Zealand etc. Have,nt been there for a while!
I remember the Monument gig when Colin broke his arm. Wow!

Re: Landed - Wed, 27 Oct 2004 19:47:00

I think it is always a critical thing to find out who did something or something wrong in a relationship... and a band is some kind of a relationship. There is always the thing that people move in different ways, and at some point maybe someone or all of them realised that there is not much in common anymore. In most cases noone is really to blame, people change, there opinions change, the way they think change... I think (in a band or between people in general)... if you find someone who wants to go a part of your way with you than do so... and if ever the ways go to different locations... thank him / them for the time and what he did for you and let him go... even if it hurts... make a cut when the time is right and you can still look in each others eyes.

There is no use in fighting... it only destroys the memory and somewhere in the past there were good times... keep them in mind and accept that people change. We all do.

Everyone has the right to do his very own thing andt to live his dream.

There's a short clip of exactly that at the beginning of the MFL2 dvd in which the narrator describes Billy as 'Making love to his organ' shock

I think Billy will look back at these clips as one would when looking at an old photograph album......

"God, did I really look like that "
" Oh I don't half look cool there"
" Ha Ha Ha, is that really me"
"Eat ya heart out Travolta"
"I'm not dancin' really, I'm just dying for a pizz"

I hope ya enjoy the clips you haven't already got Billy and it was a pleasure to do the discs for ya. u2 ms Reed lurve

Mrs X, firstly, the two dvd's I sent you were copies of my own [Mine For Life 1 & 2]. They weren't dvd's that were copied from someone else. Therefore, this 'Incomplete' set you mention is actually 'Totally Incomplete' as I never sent you any of that particular set.
Yes, I did get copies of Flips 3 discs and put them with the other 8 Ultravox dvd's I have. I have two dvd's that are entirely Foxx/Vox related but the MFL disc was the only one you knew about and subsequently asked for. As a little surprise I also enclosed the MFL2 dvd for you. I'm a tad surprised that you seemed disappointed by only receiving two dvd's from me even though I sent them to you as a goodwill gesture.

If you're after the Foxx/Vox dvd then I'm sure Flip will go to the trouble of sending you a copy if you ask nicely. smile

No, don't be daft Mike. wink If I had the time and resources to copy DVDs I would, but I deleted all the stuff off me HD recorder once it was written to DVD and I don't have a disk copier. Doesn't bother me if you (or Ash) copy them on. smile

Cheers Squire, I reckon the more people on here that get a copy of these dvd's the better. I don't mind copying and sending on to others as it's nice to share with mates on here. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to share copies of their stuff really, but, each to their own eh.

Thid dvd sharing has taken off in quite a big way and that's not just down to me for starting it but to everyone else who's contributed.

Thanks to Mike and Flip for their contributions and long may it continue wink

Hey Mike, it'll take ya weeks to listen to them boots a sent yer pal biglaugh

Erm...I know I shouldn't ask, but...could I possibly trouble anyone for a copy of the FoxxVox DVD's? I will happily give anything in return. We now have a DVD burner too (and I have the Mine For Life DVD's - Thanks Ash!) so I can contribute to the spreading of the love! lurve

Hey! Im the last one to join the forum and I am curious to check out your new stuff!

Quote:
1984 was a strange year. Midge & Annabel Giles, Bob & Paula used to sit in the kitchen all night. Bob loudly rubbished Ultravox in front of me many times, saying we were burnt out and finished.
PLEASE BRACE YOURSELVES FOR THE FOLLOWING VENOM CAPSULES.
This coming from a man that needed Live Aid to revive his already fledging career. As it happened, it didnt cos when music is poor, it does not really matter if you have a "holy" aura about you haha.

Quote:
Midge was laying him self open so as to be used by Bob, who was pretty powerful in his mouthy way, as Bob new that Midge lacked confidence in his own talent.
Well, well. How interesting. Annabel was hardly the quiet, mild type. A pretty girl made of steel and burning ambition that saw Midge as her passport to fame. Just like St Bob, she has only ever been able to get "bit parts" on tv and has always came across like a put on posh prat. False people piss me off.

Quote:
As well as the fantastic work Band Aid/Live Aid did for charity, and I applaud that, the Band Aid project gave him the confidence to s--t on Ultravox the group that made him.
That is so typical of bands internal politics. Ego, self promotion, false horizons, the need to be revered... I work as a music journalist and promotion officer for underground acts and it goes on everywhere, no matter the level of the band or the music genre. It's sad but I guess the music industry is downright fascist. One last thing that I have noticed, however, is that Midge's solo stuff was diluted and never made me reach the same heights that Ultravox did. Straight up. No shit. I have been a musician for many years too so I am not just spewing crap for the sake of it but never mind.

Billy's post was a small eye opener, I would need to read his book and Midge's and everybody else's...

[b]I THINK NOT
I rest my case wink

Finally, there's no particular message about what I've just said. Only, the world revolves on opinions and differences. You can't please everyone all the time eh. Some people will agree with Billy's comments, others may not.
One things for sure though, it makes bluddy gud readin......

HEY BILLY, WIPE THOSE CUBAN HEELS ON THE RED CARPET SQUIRE wink

Keep it up sunna !!!! [/b]
How interesting is it reading through the archives! I have to laugh - yes that is so dumb re number ones v talent - I think I can guess where that came from - having hung out round the forums a while ho hum......
