Cute! In - what - 24 years, I have never heard him speak, I am ashamed to say...

Bill, I saw you perform live with BLAINE REININGER in 1996 - excellent! I was very impressed, and that's rare. Why did you never speak anyway? I mean, in interviews, in Ultravox days? wink

Is Real Player a problem?

It is available as a free download.

I've had a grudge against Real Player since it ruined WinXP on my PC at work a couple of years ago, and I'll never use it again (neither at work nor on my G5 Mac at home).

Doug

If it's any comfort: I'm running it on my G5 at home and our work G5s and it hasn't caused any grief yet.

BTW: I don't like Real either...but that's a company issue.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start taking this thread off track with my dissing Real.

If anyone would care to post comments on the interview, I would really be interested in reading them!

And BTW, I'll be ordering Still Movement from HMV this week - the discussions & comments here have me very, very intrigued... smile

The interview is quite interesting, if, at the very least for hearing Billy speak ( a rarity in itself ).

Billy covers a range of topics from Foxx era 'Vox through the '80's lineup to Still Movement and gives some account of his thought processes and approach to creating music.

The candid nature of some of Billy's comments is refreshing and - occasionally - surprising.

Kind of like his music: an interesting listen.

Just thinking about the obvious sequals to this thread:

Billy Currie Cooks!

Billy Currie Cleans His Car!

and, my personal favourite,

Billy Currie Buys Everyone A Pint In Their Local!

Surely the next one in the sequence would be 'Billy Attends Nursery School'?

I like "Billy Currie Cooks" best. It would be a lot better than the highly unpopular proposed installment, "Billy Currie Goes To The Dentist." wink laugh

Re: Billy Currie Speaks!! - Tue, 29 Mar 2005 05:32:00

Just been checking it out - great stuff! Those Yorkshire vowel sounds, I love 'em! For some reason, it cut out after about 23 minutes, but even up to that point it was informative. i was interested how Billy referred to "Name That Sin" instead of - I presume - "I Never Wanted To Begin". Would this be evidence of the working title of his instrumental track which was taken and augmented and retitled, d'you think? The tracks from STILL MOVEMENT were excellent (I could believe that the second one played could be a new Ultravox song: if Warren's drums, Chris's bass and Midge's unmistakeable guitar kicked in, I'd have no problem accepting it. I would, however, know that I was dreaming or on a skating holiday in Hell). he sounds a little calmer than the last time I heard him speak (a radio interview), more relaxed and considered, which is dead nice. Irrespective of anything, I wish him luck and success and more albums to come and . . . and, who knows, maybe even that measure of forgiveness that comes with age and a feeling of "I'm bigger than any issue that's cropped up to derail my life" that might make him look under "U" in his address book. Call me daft (you won't be the first), but I could almost envisage the four elder statesmen of late 70s - 80s quality popular music reconvening to enlighten us once more with the benefit of their experience and undoubted talents. (Okay, I'm braced for the fall, shoot me down, those who know far more and far better!)

I totally agree. The interest in a full Ultravox reunion would be massive and it must happen. They would have so much to offer as a band and are stronger musicians together than apart. I will never have anything but encouragement for reconciliation and a new album and tour!

As much as I would like to see it happen in the right circumstances (new material not just a grab the money and run rehash) I honestly don't think that the interest for a reunion would be that great outside of us existing Ultravox fans. Add to the equation the fact that even if they did reform and make an absolute killer album with some strong singles on it , mainstream radio wouldn't play it therefore nobody would get to hear it. They could go the Marillion route and get the fans to go out and buy three single formats and get a top 10 hit. But even then they got no radio play or TV coverage. To see these four guys up on stage again with some killer new material would be wonderful , but the likelihood of all four of them wanting to do it is remote to put it lightly.

Chilled late night's are the best time for listening to Ultravox over an extra muture cheddar..........I'm still not giving in over the reunion. If they were to put on a few shows before recording the new album, that alone would raise more than a few eyebrows. The manufactured 3 chord amateurs would be seriously worried! I've been watching the mine for life DVD and it's reminded me just how well the guys played together.

I admire you for saying that Mark, but i think there's far too much water under the bridge now for a proper Ultravox reunion / new album & tour...although i'm always one for saying never say never

Indeed you must Cromlech!! Why not pop up to Crewe and see the Monument gig next month? If you squint and drink a lot it will be just like being at Ultravox gig, and then you can then have a long chat with Sleepy about 1986 being a henious date/number........... laugh

Yup....I totally agree, a total disaster of a year
1986 wiz, especially for electronic music, which turned out to be not so electronic after all  ...with the exception of Depeche Mode's 'Black Celebration' album. wink

Even the Midge-meister himself says it wiz total PISH! ..well in a round-about sort of way...& that's being kind eek
1987 wasnt much better either <img border="0" alt="[Shake head]" title="" src="graemlins/shakehead.gif" />

Their new album could and will be killer if they concentrate on getting back to the Vienna, RIE era when all they wanted to do was make credible albums that were dark, interesting and timeless. There would be no need to focus so much on being musically fashionable. They just need to be the Ultravox that we all fell in love with. I can't wait!!
