I too would like to know/hear more about Humania.

I've only heard their version of I Can't Stay Long from Billy's Pieces Of The Puzzle compilation which I thought was a pretty good version.

Did they record any new tracks or just versions of Ultravox tracks?

They did their own tracks as well - Suffering Cease was a good one I recall. Can't remember other names. Be nice to see them remastered and put out. Saw the band twice live and they played a fair few original tracks I think.

Thanks Flip.

Info much appreciated. I believe the name Humania was used because Billy was not allowed to use the Ultravox name at that time.

It was interesting to see that Robin Simon was part of the line up. I remember in an interview in Extreme Voice Billy had less than generous words to say about Robin !!

Re: the name, at the time that's what Billy told us (and what we printed in EV), but he later said that it was due to legal wranglings over the Ultravox name. Wranglings with whom we're not sure, as Warren, Chris and Midge say they were fine about him using the name. CMO, perhaps? Chrysalis?

Regarding Robin Simon, IIRC Billy said that Robin would show up, eat him out of house and home and bugger off again! wink

Don't worry m'dear, I've found a copy of their set-list.
Apparently Humania would've played the following...

01. There is No They
02. The Key
03. This Day Forever
04. Perfect World
05. Lament
06. Undertow
07. Suffering Cease
08. Heaven
09. To Love Again

ENCORE

10. I Can't Stay Long

Can't wait to hear the remastered versions... wink

Cheers Rob!

I Can't Stay Long (from Pieces of the Puzzle compilation) sounded brilliant. Robin's guitar work still integrates fantastically with Billy's synths.

We could be getting 2 CD's worth of material of studio and live tracks (as one can read from Billy's website). Perhaps condensed into 1 CD.

We can put our copy of the set list up in the Media Archive (got mine signed by the whole band, we used it on the back cover of one of the EV issues) but the tracks of course will not be - you'll have to buy Billy's CD for that. wink

Hello, a bit late for the thread.
Just found an interview with Robin Simon, here:
It's in Japanese, so not many people could read it, obviously, but - near the bottom of the page there's a tracklist for "Humania Demos" with a little picture of the band and a brief paragraph on the history of Humania. Seems like there was (is?) a bootleg with demos, and, given the source, I presume it was released in Japan...
Can anyone more informed comment on it?

That's my frickin' photo they've used on their bootleg! eek

There is indeed a demo tape, Billy sent it out at the time to promote the band and the gigs. It was never released officially - until now - so what is on that site (since it says 'NOT FOR SALE' underneath) looks like a cover someone has made up for themselves.

We'll be scanning in my Humania live photos this weekend to send to Billy, they may (or may not!) be used in the album artwork. We'll also be posting them in the Media Archive at some point. smile

What you doing on the cover of a bootleg?

*Please note* I can't actually see the photo, which makes the joke a little bit funny, not much, but enough to satisfy me... wink

I was hoping there would be an mp3 of This Day Forever out there somewhere. It will make the perfect goodbye present for my wife, believe it or not I want her to be happy.
