Heart felt thanks - Tue, 12 May 2009 05:22:00

Hi All
I was just sitting here viewing the EV life-stylee and I thought I would just say a huge thanks to everyone here as with you this project was so much better than I could have ever hoped or expected, I remember a point on-stage at Hammersmith Odeon and I thought to myself 'life doesn't get much better thasn this'.
So thank you you were fantastic.

Dearest Chris:
Similar to your sentiments about your feelings during the Hammersmith gig, I too felt- while experiencing the band's performance - that 'life doesn't get any better than this.'

THANK YOU for 'finding your way back' to the band, so to speak, and agreeing to participate in the tour. I flew from the US for three of your concerts. Unfortunately I was not able to personally meet any of you, but just seeing and hearing you play live on stage was a 30 year dream come true.

Take care of yourself.

Most Sincerely -

Volglory

Re: Heart felt thanks - Tue, 12 May 2009 06:00:00

Thank you Chris,

April 2009 turned out to be one of the more busy months in my life! Going back and forth between Norway and UK 3 times in one month, being at the shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Brighton, Hammersmith and then rounding off at the London Roundhouse. I was a bit young first time around, but managed to see you in Oslo during the final U-Vox tour 1986, where I was actually the guy you ran into at the McDonalds in Oslo before the show…  My next stop is unfortunately not until the Festival in Belgium – I just don’t want to miss anything….
All the best, and please never stop ;-)

Re: Heart felt thanks - Tue, 12 May 2009 06:09:00

I can only echo what others have already said.

Without Chris Cross there is no Ultravox, you are 25% of something Monumental!!

This April has meant more to me, personally, than I could have ever dreamed of, and my smile is still as wide as it was when I heard the first metallic 'ding' of Astradyne at Edinburgh.

Thank You a million times over, and can't wait 'till Belgium in August to re-live the experience.

Re: Heart felt thanks - Tue, 12 May 2009 06:12:00

Well, let me put it this way:

Met my old hero Sir Roger Moore last week at a book signing - he's The Saint, so that was cool cool
but NOTHING in comparison to seeing Chris Cross and comrades return to the stage in Edinburgh Playhouse - now that was really SOMETHING! We'll talk about it for years on this forum.

Chris, thanks to you and the rest of the band for making a dream come true. I would travel almost anywhere to see you guys, and i made the crossing all the way from New York. Would do so in a heartbeat again! Hammersmith was pure magic for me, and only seeing you live in New York at Avery Fisher Hall(missed you back in 80) would top it! Thanks again!

Buenos días Chris!

The pleasure was all ours!!! What you guys made us feel is absolutely beyond verbal description!

And yes - it can get even better, let's not always limit ourselves in our heads! YOU COME BACK SOON PLEASE and show us - and we give it back to you like we did and more, promise! Let's practice the ENERGY EXCHANGE again and again and... yes, why not: again!.

Anything else I had to say to you, I already posted in another thread in your section.

One important request: no more seated gigs please... They are a pleasure limiter! Let us dance with you guys!! No more people sitting on their ellbows throughout half the gigs!! PLEASE!! wink

For your upcoming gig in Barcelona (sunny even in Winter), I can of course organize whatever necessary.

Kisses,

Isabel laugh

Hi Chris,
Great to see you on stage again. The smiles you exchanged with Midge when you had both strapped on your guitars was great to see. It was evident you were happy to be back.
Thanks also for taking time to talk to my wife and I at the after show party in Bournemouth. You were a gentleman and it was a pleasure to finally meet you.
The print you signed is now framed and hanging pride of place in my home.
Thanks again, I havn't stopped smiling since the gig excited

Thanks for popping into the forum Chris and for your kind words.

Wherever and whenever anyone saw you on the tour - whether it be one show they were able to attend, or many - it was a dream come true to see you four guys playing together on stage again, and as so many have said, our heartfelt thanks go to you, Warren, Billy and Midge for having the courage to talk and 'get up there' to play after so long away. The shows were excellent, and we wouldn't have missed any of it for the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Re: Heart felt thanks - Tue, 12 May 2009 17:45:00

Chris, thank-you all so much for this April. It was a piece of my adolescence rescued, refurbished and lived the way it's meant to be! It was beyond dreaming.

To follow things, albeit intermittently, from the nerves of Edinburgh to the face-splitting grins of the London gigs was a true pleasure and a privilege, one which I never thought I'd see. I hope you folks had as much of a rush doing it as we did watching it and that your return to "other lives" is not as much of a trial as it has been for many of us!

And, you know, the suggestion of Barca in the Autumn . . . there are worse places to gig at that time of year!

Chris...I went to Hammersmith and a few other gigs (much to the amusement of my kids...they think I'm an Ultravox stalker!!!) Can I just say that it was visible to all how much you enjoyed that particular show, you said at one point you thought "life doesn't get much better than this.."
I was standing quite close to the stage and I thought exactly the same wink As a 15 year old I went to Hammersmith and saw the band on the Set Movements tour, all the enthusiasm and euphoria I felt then came flooding back...thanks for making this particular 40 year old very happy!! excited Joanna

Re: Heart felt thanks - Tue, 12 May 2009 19:54:00

Chris, Seeing you all back on stage after so long was a dream come true. I missed the experience of an Ultravox show during the 80's and after 30 years of enjoying your music it was a thrill to finally get there. I have seen many of my heroes play, but until Birmingham my greatest wish remained unfulfilled.
Thank you for coming back and I hope that you will be coming back again soon.

All the very best

It warmed my heart when the news first broke about the reunion - a happy event for all the right reasons, so it's been good to read how much you've enjoyed the tour so far.

I'm afraid I didn't get to see you any of the shows, so very sorry to have missed a chance to thank you and the rest of the guys in person for all the pleasure your music has brought me over the years, and to thank both you and Billy as well for being gentle with me when I interviewed you a few months back for that Record Collector piece wink

Here's to whatever you all decide to do next!

Best wishes.

P.S. Several readers of my magazine re:VOX - created especially for those fans that can't access the web to get their Ultravox fix - have asked me if I could pass on their thanks to all of you too, so consider it done!

A belated response.

I was second row, directly in front of you at Hammersmith. A memory that will stay with me is every so often, you would suddenly change from a look of concentration to having a huge grin on your face. It was such a privilege to hear you all again, but to see you all enjoying yourself so much, that was something else.

In 1985 as a 15 year old I was walking back to my campsite near Arisage near Malliag N.W Scotland humming Lament, it was the Monday after live aid(I missed it traveling up) as my friends and I went towards a hotel shop I suddenly froze and whispered "that man looks like Chris Cross" he went into his car, saw me frozen to the spot repeating"that IS Chris Cross"the car pulled out drove towards me before reversing the driver stuck his head out the window smiled, winked & reversed away, I was in shock could not believe it.Was it really you & who else if it was I saw 3 in that car.Never felt like that before or after, that was until I saw you all at the Dublin gig.I froze I just found it so to take it all in.Thank you deeply

Hi Chris is there any chance of getting Mr Foxx in and doing another tour, imagine Midge & John on the same stage at the same time for the same reason.I may be the only one but I would imagine it as every ULTRAVOX(!) fans dream. If Warren Cann can do it after what happened I am pretty sure John can, he wouldn't regret it, I'm certain us fans would see to that.

Hello! I've had the good fortune to see tiny bits of video from the tour and I must say I am absolutely green with envy at all of the people overseas who have been able to see this tour and those who are lucky enough to be able to fly around the world to make it happen. Hi Chris,

I came to see the show at Liverpool Philharmonic last Wednesday. I was totally blown away thanks and my sister who was only 10 when you split up came to and thought you were fab.

Anyway, you will probably understand where I am coming from due to your profession. I have schizophrenia and I would like to thank you guys particularly for the song, the Stranger Within, it saved me from a potentially pretty fearful time and quite likely actually saved my life. So thank you so much.

From the late 70's Ultravox were and still are my favourite ever group. I Went to Oxford and Bristol this time around and what can I say but absolutely phenominal!

It is great to see that you are really enjoying it all, the atmosphere and on stage chemistry is in my opinioon even better than during the eighties.

Thanks for helping make it all happen... all the best whatever you decide to do in the future, Charlie

Hi Chris, you played a top show in Munich. You looked so happy to be up there. I've been cursing for years about being too young to see you guys first time around and to see you all on this tour was a dream come true. Thank you. xx

Thank YOU Chris smile

Without you and the boys, my lifetime dream would never have been a reality, but the cherry on the cake was meeting you after the Amsterdam gig and talking about our 'norf' London roots wink

Thanks for being you, thanks for getting together, thanks for being brilliant excited

If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you again, I'll buy you a well deserved drink (or two)

Sharon xx
