Re: Hello All - Mon, 22 Aug 2005 05:38:00

Thx everyone!

Didnt realise I had to give a bit of background (noticed others have anyway!)

Well I am a fan of all sorts of music (I do try to go gigs and write my own stuff too) but I do have a soft spot for Ultravox.

I first saw Vienna when it was in the charts (as a 7yr old) and just decided I thought Midge was the handsomest bloke on the planet (remember I was 7 smile Anyway, forgot about the band for a couple of years until The Collection came out which made me aquire the vids and Rage in Eden and Vienna. Which are my fave albums. Though I do love Man of Two Worlds! Anyway last week dug out my old cassettes (yes they still exist!) and decided that I needed to get the cd versions of my fave albums as well as the vids on dvd and remembered just how great they really were. so here I am.

Hello,
interesting fact for me is, that you discovered Ultravox twice, like I did. Did you have also this specific "daja-vu-feeling" when watching the video and hearing the music? Sure you had...

Stay tuned to this station here, enjoy it!

JC, in case you weren't aware - some of the guys on the Forum are the band's officiall tribute band + are doing a gig on Friday 26th (this coming Friday) in Cheshunt (a stone's throw from London). If you're interested + available there's a bunch of us from here going along and there are various threads under the 'Monument' section.

Not sure about that, but certainly felt "at home" as it were hearing the songs again. And yet it still stands the test of time. Sure some of the sounds are of their time but some bands like Goldfrapp are using some early 80s synth sounds at the moment. But I have always been a sucker for some great synths, vox and tunes which I feel Rage in Eden and Vienna have. That said, I have recently got The Island Compiliation (was aware of John Foxx for years but never got round to hearing him) but I like it too. Some great ideas really inventive. But I will always be a Midge years gal. But I guess that's what I like about the band, the inventiveness of them. All memebers of the band brought something to the Ultravox at one time or another. Which is cool. I am all for team effort. My own writing thrives on the "team" effort.

Thx for the info. I did see the thread the other day. But unfortunately I have a party to be going too and I will be helping out with the prep (have promised) so cant make the 26th. Am just hoping I wont have to wait too long until I get another opportunity to hear the band. The stuff I heard on the competitions bit sounded great. If you are out there guys...please play London at some point. Pretty please? My rock chic status could be in jeopardy otherwise smile

Stands for me!

Great that you will be doing more gigs. I have never ventured up to the North East though! So if I managed to get up there, it would be a whole new experience for me! May be the South next year?
