Covers competition

Covers competition - Wed, 19 Jan 2005 08:41:00

When I first saw the above title I thought it would be a competition to design an album cover or poster...

So, I was wrong, but how about it? Categories could be agreed, eg. alternative sleeve for existing album; concert/tour poster; desktop wallpaper; ...

Then all we'd need would be a suitable judge. Can anyone think of a popular musician who's into art and graphic design??

:-)

Er... nope! I can't think of anybody like that!! wink

I like the idea though. Sounds interesting! If I were more adept at computer art rather than sketching (something I've done for years and think I'm pretty good at), I'd submit something.

Talking of wallpapers... I have a few very nice Ultravox/John Foxx related wallpapers, but unfortunately, I did not do them myself.

Unless I'm misunderstanding this thread....

What about a comp for alternative art for either a JF or 'Vox album?

Down the years we've all got so used to the designs and the music...maybe it might be nice to have a bash at a complete reinterpretation.

For options you might have categories for 'Best photographic Only', 'Best Illustrated/Graphic Only', 'Best Dual-Media' (eg: Photography and Graphics combined) and maybe even 'Best Collaborative' (ie: if two or more Forum members decided to pool their talents on some finished work)?

It would be interesting to see the results and if one or more of the original artisits judged: that might be great.

Wondering if anonymous entries might work, so that the results might be judged on their visual merit and/or originality?

Just a thought anyway.

And congrats/warnings to me. This is the first time I've ever logged in from work!

Bad, BAD man....

what a great idea , adrian & cromlech !!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="cool.gif" />

as we know by now , there's more than enough potential here in form of lots of members , who do wonderful hauntin' photos & also designs like wallpapers etc. to take this idea some further & indeed do a "covers" - as in artwork wink - competition as well this year !!! smile

i'm all for that idea & competition , albeit my own photographic & designer "talents" are a bit too ... erm ... underdeveloped to take part in it then !!!

anyway ... c u ! smile

Would someone from the Management kindly forward a request from me to Mr Leigh to judge a Forum art competition? (I'll email a letter if you like.)

I think that to keep it simple and less onerous, there should be just two categories...

1. an album or single cover; as well as alternatives to existing covers (The Golden Section, anyone?), this could also be a cover for a track that wasn't ever released as a single.

2. a poster on a more general theme: FoxxVox, UreVox, JF/Midge/Billy etc solo, Visage, other projects... in the form of a "greatest hits" cover, or a tour poster, or a desktop wallpaper, or whatever.

... and everyone is restricted to a total of three entries altogether. The categories could be broken down into different media, eg. photographic, collage, digital, painterly, etc. but that'd overcomplicate things.
