New Gig - Greenock 21/07/06

New Gig - Greenock 21/07/06 - Thu, 23 Mar 2006 00:35:00

As shamelessly cut and pasted from another thread... wink

Folks, just a quick note to confirm that Monument will be playing in Greenock (26 miles - a short direct train ride - from Glasgow)on Friday 21st July 2006. Hopefully we'll be able to see some fellow Vox fans at the gig. Full details, times and running order to follow...

We did ponder on an afternoon gig on the 22nd, but the logistics of getting a decent crowd on a Saturday afternoon coupled with staging the gig at a decent time to allow folks (and ourselves) to get to Glasgow for the John Foxx gig were against us...
Cheers...

Well Ladies!

Monument would love to play over in your beloved homelands, but the logistics of it all would be a total financial no no, not unless you guys win the lottery & fly us ..(& the gear) over there!

Maybe 'One Small Day'..(Pun Intended!...lol biglaugh )

Re: New Gig - Greenock 21/07/06 - Thu, 30 Mar 2006 04:16:00

Ha! Ha! Ha! laugh

If I won the lottery, Mr. X and I would probably pack up our things and move over there so we'd be able to see you in your beloved homeland anyway! But, chances are if I won, it would be millions of dollars, so I could probably manage both. I'll see what I can do. wink

If I win the next jackpot this weekend(which is over 100 million US) do you think I could get Ultravox to play a couple for all of us?

Re: New Gig - Greenock 21/07/06 - Thu, 30 Mar 2006 04:36:00

All together? Assuming you are meaning the RIE- line up,..... probably not.
But on one stage, nobody is able to see the others, seperated with THIN WALLs, it could work...
But your money is better invested in my "PLAN A" I think. Remember it?

You could try...but I'd want the original line-up with Foxx and Shears. wink

If you want the Midge line-up...well...keep in mind that ABBA turned down something like a billion dollars to reunite. Ultravox may be tempted for $100,000,000 but whether they'd actually go through with it is another thing altogether.

I think the problem I had with them was not the synth itself but the way they were generally used - "ooh look at all these presets". yuk If I never hear the DX bass sound again I'll be a happy bunny. smile

I saw an Associates concert on BBC many years ago (after Alan Rankine had departed) and the keyboard player then had some exceptional sounds which were streets ahead of the presets. smile

By the way, good luck with the gig.

I'm not quite sure how we got ourselves to this point, but it seems that (after a mad game of dare last night) we've committed ourselves to both the Monument gig and John Foxx in Glasgow next month...

So, we'll be seeing you there chaps!

smile

On a slightly seperate note, a small message for Danny Mitchell. Danny, if you're reading this my friend, my assessment made in Edinburgh in January last year that you are a very bad influence still stands. Come and prove it on the 21st July by buying us both a pint you old devil!

wink

Roll on July...

Paul, the original idea was to use Davie's people carrier for "peep ferrying", but we appear to have added a few names since then. Can peeps (and peepesses of course...) let us know if you require transport from Glasgow to Greenock on the 21st before the end of next week (14th) and we'll arrange summat based on the numbers and arrival times. We'll also try to arrange a return journey that night, although there is a regular train service a short walk (stagger, crawl...etc)away for those who retire early... wink

Helen, the venue is at the Lynedoch studios...
Lynedoch Studios
Lynedoch Business Park
Lynedoch Street Estate
Greenock
PA15 4AX

There are maps on the White52 web site and the gig guide has not geen updated since we didn't have a support until last week and Tommy is on holiday...
The ticket prices are, I believe, £5.50 worth of anyones currency and will be available on the door on the night...

Any other questions, let us know.... smile Hope you get a babysitter, it would be good to see you again...

A word of warning. Anyone planning to use the trains, can they check that their service is running. RMT have planned a 24 hour strike from 12 noon on the Friday, and this looks like it is going to affect several services. I am going to see if our train to Glasgow is affected, and we may need to cancel and book National Express coaches instead. We will definitely be in Glasgow this weekend though, and hopefully we can get to and from the gig.

Well, we got home at 4 this morning! Just aswell I didn't stay and talk any longer!
What can I say guys, FANTASTIC! Big well done! My ears still haven't recovered yet,lol
I know it will be a while before anybody reads this because you're all off having fun at John Foxx today but......
Shirl, great to finally catch up(ish).

Caroline, great to finally meet you, maybe we can actually have a proper conversation next time!? Have a safe journey home.

Stevie/ Exile, thanks for the drink mate, nice to meet you (sorry I called you Davey, you just look like one)

Thomas, Nice head mate! Like you said, it's nice to put a face to the name! kiss

Scott, nice to meet you too, safe journey home, maybe the missus will come next time?!

Mike, REALLY REALLY sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you properly, would love to have had a blether with you! Nice tash! think you should keep it! wink laugh

Roy, thanks for the reassureance, I know we'll get there (eventually)

Don, I'm really sorry I got dragged away mid conversation! I wasn't being ignorant, I'll email you or give you a tinkle in the next few days ok?! You take care of you and yours!!! (hugs)

Chappie, I didn't even get a chance to say hello properly.... again I wasn't being ignorant, I'm a bit pissed off we didn't chat actually.. think there was a big hurry towards the end because of the hour and a half journey home. (John had been up since 4am and already completed a 12 hour shift before we arrived, poor bugger) hopefully next time! kiss

Pip & EG, GREAT to see you again after all this time, you seriously brightened up my evening, feel like I did nothing but laugh (you've missed you vocation in life mr standup!)

And a big shout out to DANCING HOMER, who had my sides sore with laughter, glad you enjoyed yourself mate, whoever you are!

I would just like to say, I had a little tear in my eye when you dedicated Visions in Blue to Ari... excited

Ah, Helen, that's so good to read!!! smile

How did everyone else like it? She asked, full of curiosity... laugh

Out of solidarity, I watched Ari's brilliant MONUMENT DVD that same night. When everybody arrived, they inquired. And after explaining, I also showed some UV videos... wink (Ultrawho? )

Hi folks..

Don't worry Helen.. I did get back home ok.. Today!! Caz and I were having a bit of a mad weekend taking in four gigs, four locations in four days.. As you know we were at Greenock on Friday, then John Foxx in Glasgow on Saturday, followed by Midge Ure/China Crisis/Altered Images in South Shields on Sunday.. then to round things off.. Simple Minds in London yesterday smile

Monument were amazing, and I look forward to seeing them again in the not too distant future.. wink

Did anyone present at the gig take any photos that they would be willing to share with all of us unlucky souls who missed the fabulous Monument?? I noticed that photos of past gigs are in the archives somewhere.

This is the first time I've ever read the Monument thread. It's speaking to others in the MU chatroom that I realise I may be actually be missing something good. It seems people who go to your gigs have a great time. excited

Next time you guys do a gig down south I'll definately try my hardest to attend.
