Yes there are. But we think this is something special that needs a new thread.

______________________________

For the pre-show Voxgate for the London Hammersmith concert on the 11th April, we’ve booked the prestigious music venue The 100 Club in Central London from late afternoon to early evening, and we have two fantastic bands coming to help us with the day. Party Fears Three and (virtual world mock drum roll )...Messengers.

What!? You’re kidding us, right!?

Nope, you read correctly. And we’re very pleased to finally be able to tell you about it here first.

Why this venue and not somewhere closer to Hammersmith?

Last year was fun, but at the time we considered it a genuine one off and promised ourselves we’d never do one of these events again. But by a happy set of events, speculatively asking some questions, and the people we asked them to coming back quickly with such positive answers, we thought '‘Well, why not? Why not put on another last hurrah!?...'.

When we first discussed hosting another ‘Official Voxgate’ in December 2009, our intention was for it to be at the same venue as last year, but with Messengers agreeing to come and play for us, we discussed the practicalities of going back to The Grove. Although it’s a wonderful eatery and meeting place, we spoke to the members of Monument who played last year and the consensus was that because this year is something special, a proper venue set up would work better for our plans. We organised last year without necessarily considering how it would be for a band upstairs. With the room so small, the sound levels were incredibly loud and as there was no proper staging, it limited the view that people actually had as it was a bit dependent on where they were able to stand. From our perspective, because the venue was on split levels and also had an outdoors area, it was difficult to know whether everyone was an EV-er or not, and to organise everyone at the right times to make sure they were taking the opportunity to see the band. This year, we think there will be huge interest when people learn of our plans and that many will want to see and hear these particular bands in a setting that befits proper music.

Why the admission charge?

Last year, the three of us (and our respective partners) put up all the costs for the venue hire and the bands transport ourselves. It was a fair amount of money, and although we were happy to do so, we did so believing it would be a one off event. We run EV in our own time and, for the most part, our own resources; this much is known already and we’re not going to make a big issue of that here. However, for this year’s Voxgate, there are larger expenses needed to be paid to put the event on and we need to try and recoup as much of that as we can through your support of buying tickets. The 100 Club, unsurprisingly, has a lot of benefits against the hiring of a room over what is essentially a pub. It’s licensed to hold 300 people (so we believe there will be enough room to accommodate people wanting to attend), it’s located centrally and is easy for anyone to find who are visiting the capital that day. It also means people will be able to hear the music through a proper club speaker system. If Messengers and Party Fears Three are prepared to travel all the way from Scotland to play for us, we reason that we’d like them to have as enjoyable a day and experience playing in this venue as we believe everyone will all have watching.

Why the need for ticketing?

It took lot of our time and effort trying to organise ticket allocations last year (and we learned valuable lessons of the 'no matter what you do for people or how helpful you try to be, some will always query your actions, complain or comment that your decisions are not fair' variety). This time around the number of tickets available is precise and will be available online through We Got Tickets from early next week, and entry to the event is strictly by ticket only. By taking this approach, people wanting to attend have the choice on purchase and whether or not to attend. It also means the three of us are not put in the very difficult position of having to choose one person over another as was the case last year.

'WeGotTickets' are based in Oxford and we believe them to one of the fairer ticket agencies, with only a standard booking fee of 10% additional to the face value of your tickets being applied. There are no other charges (visible or hidden), which makes for easier administration for us and the venue on event day.

In the event of an unsold online ticket allocation becoming available, on the day purchase will also be an option at the venue and we will notify people of this through a news item on the EV homepage on Saturday 10th April 2010.

What if I’m dragging Auntie Gladys along and it seems a bit steep to make her pay when all she’s doing is humouring my obsession with music and giving me a bed for the night? And will my 11 year old quintuplets be safe waiting on Oxford Street while I go in to the event - I don’t want to have to pay fifty quid just to bring them in?

We are aware that people will have differing circumstances and arrangements for coming to London, and we don’t want anyone to be put off coming due to the ticket price. However, we do not think £10 is unreasonable for people to contribute and to make the event a success. However, if you think you may be a special case, please contact the email address voxgate100club@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll see what we can do for your relatives/kids/minders. But as we are bearing the entire financial risk of this personally, we do reserve the right to decide each case on its merits and our decision is final.

Is there an age limit?

Yes, the club has a strict over 18s policy, although because the Voxgate is effectively a private event, they have agreed to allow some under 18s entry as long as they are accompanied by an adult and are supervised at all times. However, we do need to be aware of how many under 18s are attending, and so if you are planning on bringing someone who falls into this age category along, please drop us a line at voxgate100club@yahoo.co.uk so that we can keep a list and be aware of numbers. By letting us know in advance, it means we can make the venue aware of numbers on the day if tickets have been purchased in advance and ensure that people will not be turned away at the door. If you have any questions on this, please contact us at the e-mail address. From our perspective, we would welcome younger visitors attending - age should not be a barrier to experiencing good live music.

Is there a dress code for the club?

Bad clothing should also not be a barrier to experiencing good live music. Everyone with a valid ticket is welcome and there is no dress code.

If I choose to attend, will I need ID?

Because 'WeGotTickets' operates as a paperless ticket delivery, when booking you will be given a unique reference with an e-mail confirming this sent to you shortly after your order has gone through. This booking reference along with formal ID will need to be presented at the venue in order to gain entry to the event.

You will also need proof of age or concessionary status, where applicable.

How do I get to the venue?

The 100 Club is located on Oxford Street, a few minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road Underground station and next to the Plaza shopping centre.

Bus routes that stop directly outside the Club are:

7 - Brunel Road, Acton to Russell Square Station

8 - Bow Church to Holles Street

25 - Hainault Street, Ilford, to Oxford Circus

55 - Lea Bridge Road / Bakers Arms, Leyton to Oxford Circus

98 - Pound Lane / Willesden Bus Garage to Red Lion Square, Bloomsbury

Buses that stop 30 metres away are:

10 - Hammersmith Bus Station to York Way/Kings Cross Station

73 - Seven Sisters Station to Victoria Station

176 - Pawleyne Arms, Penge to Tottenham Court Road Station

A map of the venue location can be found through this link.

Map of The 100 Club location

Will there be food available?

The club does have a kitchen that sells good quality, simple hot food. The daily changing menu can consist of; Lasagne, Chilli, Pasta, Sea food dishes, plus vegetarian meals all served with fresh salad and at a reasonable price. However, we are still talking to the venue about whether this can be open on the day. This will be confirmed early next week in the next news mailer to be sent.

Are there bar facilities?

Yes. From our experience, the prices are reasonable and less than some pub prices in the West End in many instances.

I’m attending the Ultravox evening Hammersmith Apollo show and am worried I will not be able to get to the venue before Showtime. What are the timings of the day going to be?

We have exclusive use of the club from 3pm until 7pm, which we believe will allow everyone attending time to reach the Apollo venue by the time the evening show starts. Timings at this stage are planned to be:

3pm - Doors Open

3.45pm - Party Fears Three

4.30pm - Interval

5pm - Messengers

6pm - (Music Finishes)

7pm - Curfew and exit from club

By tube, the journey from Tottenham Court Road to Hammersmith (District and Piccadilly lines) Station is approximately twenty five minutes. A projected travel timing for the day wil be sent with the news e-mailer next week confirming this.

All details will be confirmed by us through an EV mailer early next week, and we are looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

smile

All the best for now,

Cerise, Rob and Paul

A little more about our guests...

Messengers are comprised of Danny Mitchell (Instrumentation) and Colin King (Vocals).

Formed from the ashes of Modern Man in 1981, following the acclaimed album Concrete Scheme (produced by Midge Ure), the duo were to keep close to the Ultravox machine for the next few years. After the recording of some demos, Messengers were offered the support slot for Ultravox, where they would not only open up unsuspecting Ultravox fans to their music but would also augment the live line-up of the main act. Midge Ure produced a further three singles for Messengers (I Turn In (To You), Great Institutions and Frontiers), all of which are remembered fondly by fans. Sadly, the band lost momentum around 1984/1985 and an album deal never materialised, although this didn’t stop their Ultravox connection - Danny was incorporated into Midge Ure’s 1985 live band for his solo The Gift Tour and Colin in 1986/87 on Ultravox’s U-Vox Tour. Additionally, the pair have had writing partnerships with Midge Ure over many years, with Danny co-writing the hits If I Was, That Certain Smile and Wastelands and both members co-writing the song Call Of The Wild.

In 2004, Messengers completed and recorded the album, It's Been Twenty Years, Let's Try Turning Up the Volume which is available exclusively from www.ultravox.org.uk. With Danny and Colin expressing their delight at being asked to perform at The 100 Club as "a total bolt out of the blue!", Extreme Voice is thrilled to host Messengers first live appearance since 2002.

Party Fears Three are a covers band with a subtle twist. Using a combination of modern technology, vintage instrumentation and repurposed sound sources, they provide authentic, yet updated, versions of some of the finest songs from the 80s genre.

Formed in Edinburgh in late 2008 by Steve Adam (Keyboards, Vocals, Audio and Visual elements), Mike Lyden (Guitars and Vocals) and Don Thomson (Keyboards, and thankfully No Vocals), they have quickly developed an impressive reputation through performing a clutch of well received live shows, including support slots with established eighties acts The Beat and Bad Manners. As Steve Adam has commented, "Our aim is to produce shows that in terms of sound and visuals strongly evoke the bands whose work we cover but that are also stamped with our own identity. By doing this, we are hopefully making them an interesting and appealing prospect for anyone that has an affinity for the great music of this era and, at the same time, something a little different from what you might expect from conventional tribute bands."

Extreme Voice is delighted to offer Party Fears Three the opportunity to perform at the Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London 2010 Voxgate.

About the 100 Club

Located discreetly on London’s famous Oxford Street, The 100 Club is one of the most celebrated live music venues in in the world and has been promoting live music on the same premises since 1942. Originally a restaurant called Mack's, live music was first played here when British jazz drummer Victor Feldman's father hired the venue regularly on a Sunday night to showcase the talents of his jazz loving sons and their band. Its longevity is due to an open minded music policy which has seen many different musical styles performed at this venue over its long history.

The Clubs heritage is legendary and has seen performances from acts as diverse as Glen Miller, Louis Armstrong, Roxy Music, Youssou N’Dour, Georgie Fame, The Sex Pistols, Muddy Waters, Hugh Masekela, B. B. King, Bo Diddley, Jackie Wilson, The Jam, Oasis, Lonnie Donnegan, Jimmy McGriff, Travis, Muse, Sinead O'Conner, Nico, Chris Barber, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, The Animals, Stephane Grappelli, Metallica, The Who, The Kinks, The Pretty Things, The Spencer Davis Group, The Clash, The White Stripes and Beverly Knight to name but a few. Likewise, artists such as The The Rolling Stones, Joe Strummer, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Paul Weller, have performed here long after becoming established.

Extreme Voice is excited to have secured this iconic and prestigious venue for the Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London Voxgate.

Re: Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London 2010 Voxgate - Fri, 12 Feb 2010 23:12:00

Excellent!

Last year's concerts were, as a wise person once said to me, "closing the circle" for many ULTRAVOX fans. 2010 would seem to be taking it into a new dimension, turning that circle into a sphere, and a musical one at that.

As for admission prices, well . . . ! You can easily pay as much as that - and more - to see a dodgy fringe play above a pub, emerging completely unenlightened, utterly unmoved, idly resentful and wondering if that's all an hour-and-a-half of your life is worth. This is an absolute bargain by comparison. £9 is around 9.75 Euros (or 8.37 billion Drachmas). Put another way, that's 36 pence for every year we've been waiting to hear MESSENGERS play live together again and with PF3 thrown in for good measure. PF3 are dead good, you know, they really are.

If you're coming to the gig from anywhere in Britain, then this is a great way to use the pre-gig time, far, far better than shopping. Besides, Oxford Street is just horrible of an afternoon, even a Sunday one, it really is. It'll be so much more fulfilling to cut off it and walk through an exclusive darkened doorway into a world resurrected for your pleasure and delight. If you're coming from foreign abroad, then this is simply the icing on the cake, and very possibly an extra handful of moist fruit in the cake as well: you can add a fantastic extra four hours to your adventure for little more than the price Ryanair will charge you for a sandwich and a bowel movement.

Thanks to all movers, shakers, tremblers and whatever at the EV nerve centre who have made this possible. Who'd'a thought it, eh?

Bring it on!

Brilliant news! I never saw this coming. I'll be there. All in all, it will be a top day and evening: Messengers and PF3 on the same bill at an historic venue followed by the lads at Hammy and then maybe the prospect of dancing to fine FUTURIST classics at Rusty's place. I couldn't ask for better.

Whatever it takes to spread the word about this unique event. So many people have said to us how much they would love to see Messengers play live again - and now the opportunity is there. Moreover, it's coupled with a performance of Party Fears Three - and it's at a venue that's tailor made to show both bands off. So we want to do as much as can to ensure that as many people as possible get to hear about it.

Re: Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London 2010 Voxgate - Sun, 07 Mar 2010 21:35:00

I work - amongst other things - in the theatrical world (dahlings) and am well used to folks expressing a genuinely enthusiastic and positive interest in a show or event and then, for whatever reason, never quite getting around to coming along. I understand this. I've done it myself. If I'm in the cast, I don't care too much. Outnumbering the audience has a certain tactical advantage to it, even if I am bought fewer drinks afterwards.

This, however, is a little different. Actually, it's a lot different. Not least, it may never, never be repeated. Never. Not EVER! In addition, it has to be the most stonkingly good hors d'oeuvres to the evening gig that ever could be imagined, and at a venue the significant reputation of which will render later stories of "I was there!" all the more satisfyingly chewy and meaty (vegetarian metaphor available upon request).

Why am I blethering on like this, apart from it being my default mode and me being currently traumatised by having spent the night in what felt like Avenue Q on acid (but that's another story)? It's because I want to urge anyone who has expressed an interest in this fantastic event to take that step and BUY TICKETS NOW. Don't wait until the day to get them on the door because a). There may be none left, b). They'll be more expensive, and d).If you have the ticket(s) NOW it puts the event into REAL time and your attendance is something you don't even have to think about and YOU WILL COME and YOU WILL BE DELIGHTED. Plus, if you come along, I'll tell you what "c)." was.

"Why should you care, you silly, hairy-looking man?", I hear you cry. Well, selfishness, really. The magic of last year will not be repeated the same way this time around. There's only one first time. However, this . . . this is the new magic and to experience it in a packed environment, with folks all of whom love what they're there for (apart from the odd granny / chaperon / carer there by accident, legal necessity or out of the need for a nominated driver) - well, that would be magnificent, rousing and just bloody great. Of course, if the Hammy gig will be your first chance to catch the lads themsleves, then adding the MESSENGERS / PF3 gig to your shopping basket could give you an experience beyond your dreams. The bands bring the songs. We bring the atmosphere.

So, if you're coming from abroad, add this to your itinerary without a second thought. If you're coming from the UK, likewise, just buy the tickets and make a Sunday of it. The more the merrier, a UN of electro-glee can be ours! Let's sell this thing out and get people talking and worried about what they're missing!

This will be good, whatever. It's up to us just how far off the scale the needle can go.

Wow Osty. Given how 'out there' a show Avenue Q is, this thought defies imagination. I think you should go and have a lie down, for your health and sanity as otherwise you'll surely lapse into joining the 'Bad Idea Bears' for an encore. And as funny as that would be, it could be scary for some - best leave that possibility for April hey?...

Thanks for the positive responses folks. There's tickets for the event left, and we'd genuinely love to see as many people as possible attend the 100 Club gathering as it's going to be a fantastic afternoon. So, spread the word where and when you can and leave no site unturned.

No, there are no plans to record this. The momento of the day we would like people to have is the opportunity to come and experience this very special event in person and to be able to take their own memories away with them.

Re: Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London 2010 Voxgate - Wed, 07 Apr 2010 00:12:00

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to remind you that it's now just five days until the London Voxgate. If you have purchased tickets already and are busy planning your day, thank you (it helps supports everything we do). If you haven't purchased tickets, or are unsure on whether to come or not, there's still time to do so. And there's no time better than now...

Wegottickets - London Voxgate booking page

A couple of updates to give you since the event was set up. Party Fears Three will now start the afternoon with a slightly longer set than had originally been planned (extended for, ahem, 'tax and artistic' reasons), and Colin King from Messengers has hinted that he and Danny have a couple of surprises up their sleeves for their appearance. What could it be? We don't know ourselves, but more reasons to make sure you don't miss out on seeing these two great bands though we think...

We're looking forward to seeing everyone on the day. Spread the word and make sure you don't miss out on this unique event.

smile

All the best,

Re: Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London 2010 Voxgate - Wed, 07 Apr 2010 05:15:00

A great big thanks, in advance, to everyone coming along to the Voxgate @ the 100 Club this coming Sunday, and especially to Cerise, Rob, Paul and Pippa for organising this long distance Ultravox support slot for us and Party Fears 3.

We'll do our very best to make it a memorable afternoon, Colin has been in heavy training and each morning, at the crack of dawn, can be heard refining his yodelling technique from atop Ben Lomond, while I am busy fashioning a Revox substitute from bits of Lego, Meccano and Gaffa tape. All that aside, you could take us out of the equation and it would still be the ideal aperitif for the main (ULTRAVOX) course! PF3 rock the Eighties and I will be lapping it all up from my post, at the bar!

So, to everyone who's coming along......get a good nights sleep on Saturday, because Sunday promises to be one full day.

Re: Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden Part II' London 2010 Voxgate - Sun, 11 Apr 2010 09:40:00

Due to various circumstances involving my friend and his girlfriend (don't ask...) who were supposed to be coming with me to Hammersmith show and also possibly the 100 Club, I've had to hold off purchasing tickets to the 100 Club Voxgate event. However, it looks like I'll now be meeting just my friend at Hammersmith for the gig only, so there's still a chance that I can go to the 100 Club!

I've just checked the wegottickets website and there are none available to buy. Are there still any left that can be purchased on the door? Can I pre-order one somehow so I can save myself a couple of quid (three shows this weekend is getting very expensive!)? I also don't want to turn up only to find that tickets are unavailable and that I'll have 4+ hours to kill before the main event...

Any information will be gratefully received!

Well, what can I say?

What an absolutely SUPERB afternoon!

Many thanks to the EV crew for organising this event. It must have taken a huge amount of organising, but it really was the icing on the cake for me, and great to see so many people there (and meet up again with some of the forum members from previous Voxgates).

As ever, the PF3 boys put on a great show, though a shame Don's keyboards seemed a bit low in the mix to me.

Messengers were absolutely awesome. So great to see them again after all these years. Any chance of a new album coming soon guys?

Anybody that missed it really really must buy the existing album (which comes with a free download link to get MP3s of the original singles!) See link elsewhere on this site folks!

Rob, Cerise, Paul and Pippa, I could never thank you enough for bringing us down to the Voxgate and for organising such an overwhelmingly great day for us.

Ultravox were astounding and getting the chance to say hello to the guys after all these years was just....great!

Also, thanks to everyone for making it along to the 100 Club and giving our rusty tunes such a kind reception. I had more than a few 'Condor' moments just taking it all in, but luckily enough Colin and our Revox replacement held things together.

It was even great putting faces to some of names that contribute here and whose posts I enjoy reading. God bless the lot of you!

Once again, a BIG THANK YOU from Messengers.

No sooner do I arrive back in Edinburgh do I find myself back in London for a video shoot. No rest for the wicked eh? I am therefore forced to write this from the lobby of a grim three star conference hotel just outside Gatwick but I did want to take a moment to publically record my heartfelt gratitude to Paul, Pippa, Rob and Cerise for the fabulous opportunity to play at such a prestigious venue and for a weekend that we will never forget. To Danny and Colin - it was a true privilige to support you and I take great encouragement from the kind words you had for what we're doing with PF3. And to all of you who came to the gig and especially those who took the opportunity to speak to us after the show and let us know how much you enjoyed it, again thank you! My biggest regret at events such as these is there is so little time afterwards to meet everyone properly but it's nice to be getting Facebook requests and the like from people who enjoyed the gig and I very much hope we get another chance to do it all again soon. We have a Facebook group for the band so do join it if you like and that way we can keep you up to date with any future news.

Re Don's keyboards - we seem to have an ongoing jinx with that! I think what caused the problem this time is that the sound tech didn't realise that Don is usually triggering sounds from my module rather than his own synths and as a result he thought he was miming most of the time and didn't realise that between the sound check and the show something had gone wrong. Plus we had to reconfigure everything for a mono mix at the last moment, which we were not expecting and that may also have had a part to play with levels. It's not really anyone's fault - these things happen and it's a particular hazard if you need to use someone who is unfamiliar with your set up to run your FOH sound as they don't necessarily realise anything is wrong! And of course once we get going it's something we can't do anything about because up on stage we have no idea about what you can hear (it's hard enough to hear ourselves!). But we hope it didn't spoil your enjoyment too much.

Again, many thanks to all for a truly memorable weekend.

Sorry for taking a week to post on this thread, it's all been so manic since we got back!

We would like to give huge thanks to both Danny and Colin, and to Mike, Don and Steve, for coming such a long way and putting on such fantastic entertainment. You guys rock - you were all BRILLIANT.

Thank you also to EVERYONE that came, and made our last Official Voxgate such a special afternoon. It was lovely to see so many of you, some for the first time and many others for the umpteenth. It was an absolute joy, as always. We hope that you enjoyed yourselves - we certainly did!

All the very best,
Cerise, Rob and (for the last time), Paul.
