Re: Birmingham Symphony hall - Wed, 17 Feb 2010 15:14:00

Yes please for me on the directions front.

And can anyone who's local tell me how many minutes walk it is from Birmingham New Street to the Symphony Hall?

The last train I can get back is 23.09 and I don't really want to leave the gig early yuk

Thanks Mandy

Re: Birmingham Symphony hall - Wed, 17 Feb 2010 16:22:00

By the quick route it's about 10 mins but that involves walking under a flyover. Maybe not great at 11pm. The longer route takes 15 mins but you might want to allow 20.

Re: Birmingham Symphony hall - Wed, 17 Feb 2010 16:28:00

Thanks for that. Think I may go to my fall back plan - grab a cab outside the venue - presume there's a rank there and presume this'll be quicker? (and safer)

Re: Birmingham Symphony hall - Wed, 17 Feb 2010 16:41:00

It will be quicker by cab but not loads quicker. The cab will have to drive round the one way system. Don't worry about the city centre, it's pretty safe.

I will try & get there for 6.45/7ish

Tap & Spile
10-16 Gas Street
Birmingham, B1 2JT

If you know where the BSHall is then opposite is the Walkabout bar.

Gas Street is first left after the Walkabout (going out of birmingham).

If you search on Google maps then click on street view, you can walk it virtually.

The pub backs onto the Canal.

It has several rooms.

I suggest meeting in the first one you come to as you go down Gas Street.(first entrance)

If you look left on street view the White building with the man painting is the Tap & Spile.
Walk forward takes you to Broad Street.

Duly added to the updated Voxgates page . smile

Re: Birmingham Symphony hall - Sat, 27 Mar 2010 07:39:00

Can I add that it would be ideal if everyone wanting to meet up does stay in the room that they go into when entering the pub - it's an older style pub with a number of discrete rooms and it would be a shame to miss out on the craic for logistical reasons . . .

I dont think they do food in the evening. The website has not been updated since last year.

Also I remember Cerise's post about last years Voxgate

http://www.ultravox.org.uk/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=000087;p=3

May be best to ring them.

There are plenty of other places to eat nearby on Broad Street.
