Sheffield gig: pre/post-gig beers? - Thu, 08 Jul 2010 06:05:00

Hi

Is there any meet organised before the Sheffield gig next month? I'll fancy a flaggon or two, having done a few miles on the M1. Any suggestions welcome.

I'm defo up for a gathering pre-gig (have to get the last train home afterwards). When I was in Sheffield a few years ago we used to go to 'The Penny Black' on Pond Street (it was the closest to the Uni bulding we were in!) - not even sure if its still there.

But anyone who knows anywhere good please let us know.

There's The Old Monk.... just across the road from the O2..... decent beer and meals....Penny Blacks not so good anymore.....well I don't think so...

Old Monk gets totally panned here

including
"Dire excuse for a pub - avoid at all costs"
shock

though better reviews here -

theres The Brown Bear next to it... if you don't like the sound of the monk....to be honest I'm up for anything, theres a chinese buffet place near the o2 so I'd be up to eat there then goto the Bear for a beverage or 3.....

Anywhere that does a decent beer/real ale is fine with this lass wink

Will be on the train from Nottingham - probably mid-afternoonish. A decent beer before getting 'up close and sticky with Ultravox' as Midge put it in a recent tweet!! excited

Avoid the Bankers Draft!

The Old Monk is alright, probably the best place that's close to the O2 anyway.

Anywhere close will do - pref accross the road!!

I think I'll be dashing so might not make the pre-meet but will try.

Is a decision made? Will be rushing to get there from work but am staying in Sheffield overnight, so keen to put some faces to names after the gig at least. Don't know Shieffield at all so can't help with choices.

Does anyone know what time the lads will be on-stage? I've just realised that in the previous four occasions I've seen them (this year and last), it's been through an alcoholic haze to a lesser or greater degree!

I would take a stab at show time being 8.30pm. I have a rotten cold (again) - must be after all the mad stuff in Finland/planes and no sleep. Bloomin typical! Looking forward to it. See you tomorrow.

How big is the venue Kath, is it as up close and personal as Midge suggests? shock

Re: Sheffield gig: pre/post-gig beers? - Tue, 24 Aug 2010 18:36:00

on the website it looks as though there are 2 venies in the o2, one for 500 only which I think is the standing only one.
Will be aiming to get there in time for doors opening to try and get to the front - but sounds as though anywhere in the place will be fab. not long now!!

:-) Except for many moons ago when I saw the lads as a kid, going to see them or meeting other fans has always involved booze. More than any other band I've followed, Ultravox and copious drinking are synonymous for me. See you in the pub later. Cheers!

Hi Pete,

Check out the 'Sheffield Approaches' and 'Newcastle' threads in the Ultravox section of the forum - plenty of set info and a lot of us have given our thoughts and reviews.
