From the sound of the news story, it'll be all about Bob and Harvey Goldsmith. Wonder if Midge will even get a mention?! frown

I have the perfect actor in mind to play Midge. He's brilliant, experienced, and handsome! Name's familiar to some of you. James Ure. Ring a bell with you? TeeHee!! Staci

I've now seen several media reports about this film and as Cerise says it seems to be all about Bob & Harvey with no mention of Midge whatsoever. frown The cynic in me isn't surprised!

There are great Band Aid & Live Aid documentaries in existence already and it's a story far better told by original footage and interviews than actors and scripts. I don't want to see someone playing these guys anyway! More accuracy in reality and harder to 'airbrush' folk out!

and just like the old World War II movies, the Yanks will have taken over and run the whole show.....

in fact all the bands played in the good ol' US of A and there was a backstreet pub in Wembley that hosted a bit of a "sing-a-long" for a few cockerneys on the old Joanna wink

Despite the rather lazy piece of journalism Neil McCormick wrote about the Live Aid concert (which was linked to on this thread), there is an amusing article about the actors chosen for this film written by him here . Enjoy!

Paul

Talk about feeling ignored. There was no mention of the Live Aid anniversary in any of our media save CNN International. Completely ignored it. Apparently us Yanks made no contribution whatsoever as far as our media are concerned. And I can't access the BBC docs as I don't live in the UK. None on YouTube yet. The filmakers ignoring Midge is par for the course, ignorance-wise. Perhaps they're Americans. I'm going to go and pout now. Staci

Nah - they probably just see it as being 'All about Bob' - which is very british. It was him him him then and it is now. Actually it was a team effort - but jo public does not see this. Bob is the buzzword.

Sorry, I really do think Bob is a tit and takes far too much limelight for what was effectively a team effort with many contribution - especially from Midge. Sure he had an idea, but theres no way he could have made 'BandAid' happen on his own - Midge provided teh essential 'brains'. Didnt Bob turn up with 3 strings on his guitar or something ........ then he swaps slots around at Live Aid - re his musical career - did it ever exist? Sorry, can't stand the man.

We will get a draft letter sorted shortly for a petition which people can email or post to the BBC.
Yes Twitter, Facebook is a good idea to raise this issue
Midge won't get involved but us the fans can do something about it
It happens time and time again that Geldof steals all the credit and forgets Midge Ure. Well enough is enough and its time to do something about it.

though to be ( slightly ) fair to the man - this time it isnt his decision , its the BBC/writer.

the Live Aid film is pretty decent - not too deep. Very little of Midge other than a guy I assume is Midge standing at the side of the wembley stage and a brief excerpt from Vienna. Bob Geldof is played really well by Donal Gleeson (son of actor Bredan Gleeson). He gets the larger than life Geldof's accent and mannerisms down pretty well. I assume it will be shown on BBC soon.
