Tears for fears were on the promotional poster but had no intention of performing. At the time they said that they had some other commitment, but in reality Bob just put loads of people's names together who he wanted there and blackmailed them into turning up, TFF didn't sucumb to the blackmail.

Do you mean the Band Aid single or the Live aid concert? Adam Ant did Live Aid but wasn't on the band aid single (and he probably should have been)!

As in a wish list?

Well Toyah's friend, Gary Numan would have been good to see on live aid. Gary would of accepted the offer to appear, but for some 'unknown' reason Bob did not ask!

I might be wrong, but I think that the choice of artists was mainly down to whether they were in the public eye/ charts at the time! I'm not sure whether Numan was? Why did Bob not ask?!...... well lets face it Bob's an arsehole! LOL  nutjob

Can't really imagine Numan coming out in either the Berzerker gear or The Fury gear for a couple of songs... mind you, God knows he could have done with the publicity back then...

Yeah, Numan's chart success dipped after 1983, so I guess he wasn't as bigger name by 1985. For the record 1985's The Fury isn't a bad album at all, at least for me!

I always wondered why Peter Gabriel wasn't involved in Live Aid, but I guess it's because again - he wasn't as commercially successful at the time, as his big break came the following year.

i think the Kinks should have done the live aid concert, and they wanted too. they were turned down because they weren't famous anouth!!!
which is pretty irronic because the kinks are quite a bit more famous than a lot of bands/artists that did perform at live aid. <img border="0" alt="[Shake head]" title="" src="graemlins/shakehead.gif" />

It would have been great to have seen Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy there - I do think Live Aid was missing the great guitar riff from 'The Boys are Back in Town' to get the crowd going!

That was the general rule Helen that Bob wanted the most popular artists at that time.

Flip, Gary did need the publicity by then, hence the blue hair. ('now im fighting to breathe, its been such a long time' - Berserker).

You said it re Numan. I think that is why I lost touch. He totally dropped off the american charts and everyone was sick of Cars being overplayed. Shame really as I keep reading how you guys go on about him. Havent had the chance to give him another try yet. If he had been there it definitely would have helped.

Toyah was all but finished by 1985. She burned brightly but for a relatively short time. Had Live Aid been in 1982 maybe the Toyah band (who were fantastic) would have been invited.

I remember wanting to see Prince, but I think I remember him sending a recorded message even though he didn't perform. Anyone shed any light?

I never saw Band Aid as I was at Thorpe Park at the time. One favorite artist of mine who was around at this time & not on the list - Kim Wilde.

I do believe,Caz that Phil was far too gone at that piont, Midge said in his book, that he was so out of form, and so bloated he never though of asking him. He died shortly after live aid if i remember correctly frown Midge was on honeymoon with Annabel Giles, when he died
