Hi everybody!
I´ve been a member here for a couple of years now, but have never introduced myself properly.
My first contact with Ultravox was in 1982 or 1983 at age 14. My brother gave me a cassette: "Rage in eden". I gave it a spin and liked "The voice" but found the rest of the album boring (read not easy listening). It was easier to like the albums "Rio" by Duran Duran or "New golddream" by Simple minds. But in 1984 I had two buddies in school, who argued which album they liked best: "Quartet" or "Lament". I didn´t think a lot about that, but discovered a little later that Ultravox had released "The Collection". I grabbed it and it blewed me away. That LP is totally worn out today. Then I quickly collected all their albums. Typically I missed their gig in Sweden in 1984. Then there was Midge´s solo album which I liked, but there was something missing. Then it became 1986 and I read in Melody maker that "Poor old Warry had to go". Horror! But I did buy "U-vox" and thought it was OK (except for a few tracks). At last I saw them in the concert house of Gothenburg in october of 1986. Very strange version of "White China". But when Chris Cross brought his synth for "All stood still", it was all forgiven and the the audience went wild. Of course we missed Warren, but we were happy anyway. In 1988 i bought "Answers to nothing" by Midge, but I felt a little disappointed and lost somewhat connection with Ultravox for the next 10 years or so. Nowadays I have a re-newed interest for the group and looking forward to the final remasters in september.
Thanks to Rob and Cerise for all fantastic work on the different projects and this internet site.
Thanks to everybody else here on this forum for all contributions and for the warm feelings here. (I´m a member of a few other music forums too and sometimes there are hard feelings on those.)
Kind regards
Björn
