It's been ages since I've posted anything in this thread (been far too busy with other things) so I thought that I would rectify it this evening with the following...

This was taken in the Shinjuku Goyen Garden in Tokyo - a friend suggested that I shoud see how I got on with taking photographs with an infra-red filter - and this was the result. I wish I'd taken more now, as I'm quite pleased with how this turned out.

Brilliant Rob!! I'm a big fan of Infra Red Photography. Which filter did you use?

I use a Hoya R72 for my Efke film shots, or a 87 filter which is slightly stronger and used on the Kodak Infra Red film.

Hope to see some more.

All the best

H

Duncan,

I can't claim any credit for Rob's picture (as much as I would like to!!) Colour infrared film used to be available, but has now long since ceased to be. The effects on it were amazing, with very unusual colours. Unfortunately, I never tried any out, but I bet there are some pictures out on the web somewhere..I'll guarantee that Flickr has some.

and yes they do...

have a look at this...

THis is superb. I've been thinking of experimenting with infrared film myself.

There were at one time a range of other films that gave certain effects...I read an article in a photo magazine a few years back about them. One I think was a black and white film which recorded in black and blue "Polapan" I think it was called...all of them have long since sunk into obscurity though.

There has been some very interesting stuff done over the years, but people are getting very creative with digital...a friend of mine is doing some stunning stuff with HDR "High Dynamic Range" images...almost enough to make me want to buy a DSLR. I've got to get one soon to cover gigs properly...looks like I'm saving for the Canon 7D...ouch laugh

Go for it Jus, try AG Photographic in Kings Heath in Birmingham, they'll do mail order too. Just Google them. Matt Wells (the owner) is a great guy, and is happy to talk photography all day, such is his passion. If you go there tell 'em I referred you!! wink

Try Efke IR820 or Rollei Infra Red. expect to pay around £5-6 per roll. I use the Efke a lot. I have a load of Efke and about 20 rolls of Kodak Infra Red, which is no longer available. I'm happy to give you a roll if you want to try. laugh

Duncan,

I think CP can answer that q fully. He was a Nikon man, saw the light and now has a Canon 7D.

Lucky bugger!!

Don't go starting a Nikon vs Canon war, DM...! wink

I just bought a Nikon D5000 to replace my ageing D70. Did look at Canons in the "around 500 quid" SLR market but all advice seemed to point to Nikon (in that price bracket!) for the better quality lenses and more solid bodies.

Very happy so far. No idea which is better in the pro equipment categories though (never likely to justify that kind of expenditure for what is basically a hobby for me).

Flip,

An amnesty shall apply. Poor CP wouldnt know which side to fight on and eventually us LFC fans would turn on him anyhoo....... confused2

Only chance that LFC will win anything this season. Knowing Ash, he will confound, confuse and defeat us with a beach ball.

A Canon one, at that too... cussing

I was playing footy last night and as Goalie for a while, fell victim to a similar beachball incident (albeit with another football), so I shall never make fun of Pepe and that incident ever again! wink

Beachballgate - Oh lordy, the Mackem's are never gonna live that one down eh. shock

Canon or Nikon?
Kurma or Vindaloo?
Boobs or bums?
It's all about taste/preference.
Horses for courses and all that jazz.

A scouse fella (D.P Martin) bullied me into ditching the D80. I was then forced to take an oath of office that included swearing an allegiance to the Canon Corporation. I shall shake D.P's hand on our next meeting, as I am now producing quite nice digital images of 'Donkey's Knob' resolution.

Good day. laugh

Sorry I couldn't reply to your questions in my Guest Book a few weeks ago, D. You left no contact details so I logged in here but found none in your profile either. Did you get yourself a camera then? AC

I'm awaiting a Canon 5D Mk II as I need a 2nd digital camera. I will see how I go on with it compared to the Nikon. I have a Canon film also and love that camera - even though its old and not as expensive as teh Nikon I think its got the edge - having said that I prefer film anyway so its probs just my preference!

The weather yesterday was lovely - and so I decided to head on out with my camera - something that I haven't done for absolutely ages. Crumbs - I'm so out of practice, I've really gotta rectify that...

Anyhow, a couple of my favourites are as follows...
