I'm a graphic designer but like to work on personal artistic projects in my spare time.

THE LIGHT DREAM
I have a website for my digital artwork at http://www.thelightdream.net

Some of you might notice a slight similarity between my "Faces" artwork and John Foxx's "Cathedral Oceans" artwork - well the truth is, it's a kind of homage to John's artwork! It inspired me to try and create something similar, as a starting point and see where I ended up - though I think my end result is somewhat different in appearance (and evidently not as good!).

My favourite works here is the set of images inspired by the music of Simple Minds.

I hope you like my artwork - I look forward to any comments!

I also run a Peter Gabriel fan site, and within that there is an art gallery of images I created while listening to his music. But it has a twist, since I experience what is called 'synaesthesia' which is the association of colours and forms with sounds. So this makes the artwork quite abatract, but in my mind it perfectly illustrates the songs.

The Faces work was indeed quite reminiscent of JF. I'm not a big fan of that style, but the first image of the two (without the leaves) I do like a lot. Great colour and texture on the background.

Some of the other images I find stunning to be honest, some didn't move me much. So many people do digital imaging now maybe its less easy to be impressed. There's plenty with the wow factor on your site though Alex. Some would undoubtedly look spectacular in larger sizes, but I guess you're concerned about theft?

Thanks for the pointer. smile

Yeah I'm concerned about theft, which also accounts for the ugly large disclaimers I decided to plaster on eich piece.

Thanks for your comment good and bad. I agree about digital imaging being easier for anybody to do nowadays - that's one reason why I avoided learning 3D software or CGI - other than seeing it as 'cheating' a bit (sort of) I think it's too easy to learn, despite being able to create stunning results.

I'm a fine artist at heart and I still think and work that way in Photoshop.

I forgot to mention - some of the "Darn that Dog & Drat that Cat" comic artwork on the fatdog website (above) was published late last year in a new book, "Writing and Illustrating the Graphic Novel" by Mike Chinn.

We've been writing and drawing these comics together for 19 years (since we were 7!) and to finally have a selection of our work featured in an internatinal publication feels quite rewarding!

London based Quarto Publishing have since asked us for more samples for another book.

Thanks - just wanted to rave about that! wink

Alex, I found this fascinating. I'd never heard of synaesthesia before, and it's left me feeling that I'm missing out, LOL! Quite incredible, thanks for that.

PS. I'm both a fellow graphic designer AND Peter Gabriel fan! wink
