I really wouldn't like to comment on this but I feel that I have to - that had to be the worst rendition of Vienna I have ever seen.

Sleepy- I taped it so if you want a copy let me know

I have to agree, was at a wedding all weekend icky I found myself wincing when Midge hit the high notes of Vienna, this show wasn't a good move. And have to say that this show was not representative of the 80's in any way eek and what with a Anita Dobson introducing Midge as "Midge your"..............(Moan over) wink
Kind regards all! smile

Would love to have a copy of that one, could swop/pay, as there seems so much different talk about it. Seems he was the only one who made a serious attempt at giving a good show...aaaaargh! Vienna.....whichever way...

Anyway, I'd just like to rant a little and form my own opinion about it...confirm my already confirmed opinion that Midge definitely needs some new material to go with, even tho Vienna might not be the baddest of songs floating around there...I've certainly heard worse from him. laugh

I tend towards thinking that given Midge's age your vocal abilitys are not going to be the same as they were in the 80's. Also that any thing he does he obviously does with a passion that sets the hairs on the back of your neckoff. As Ive only ever seen midge on the Sample loopes & trigger happy tour he absolutely blew me away with old & new songs & that was only march last year.

I thought it was like watching someone else perform the UV tracks, rather than the man himself. He looked as if he was really struggling to remember the old songs, and it lacked passion IMHO. shocked

Maybe he should just chuck it in or - for once - come up with something decent, fresh and inspiring! If I were Midge I'd hate to be playing the old stuff all the time, not speaking of bloody ole covers covering bloody ole covers of some 70's and 80's maniacs...what's the purpose in seeing a bleedin' ole karaoke player up on stage, however funny he may be (every now and then)... zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz

I hadn't heard about this show or seen this thread, and I was just watching it (ITV2 this evening), thinking "They could ask Midge onto this" when there he was!!

Luckily I had to get up after the first chorus to bath Catherine - I don't think I could've sat through the whole thing. I felt the way I did as a kid when the daleks came on Doctor Who - behind the settee time.

Okay, it wasn't awful, but it was bad. The verse was under-sung and the chorus was over-sung, ending on a long, high, loud bum note. I do admire him for doing it live, which most of the other performers couldn't manage, but it didn't seem professional. And backing Vienna up with just an acoustic guitar and a midi track??? Can't work. A

well ... i haven't seen that show , as i'm from another country , but some time ago i have seen midge also perform "vienna" with "a band" that was even introduced as ULTRAVOX ( but of course WASN'T_!!! ) by the tv show presenter on a kind of german "top of the pops" equivalent called "the best of ... formel 1" ... & it was so bad that i almost puked , sorry folx !!! *sigh*

i haven't mentioned that indeed awful experience here before , because it was simply way too embarassin' for me to even watch it & especially to talk about it , as i jus' hoped that it was a rather bad dream & midge did it jus' once on that show ... but by now i know that he did it - kind of - again !!! eek

however ... if midge should ever read this , my sincerest advice to him is , PLEEEASE_DON'T do such kind of performances again , dear midge , as u could very easily spoil almost all the good memories that people - & especially fans !!! - have of your earlier & much better performances with somethin' so ... "unpleasant" as that !!! *indeed_very_serious_plead*

I actually think he was the best of a bad bunch... he was the only one who sang live! Perhaps the others i.e Chris de Burgh, Kelly Marie and Jennifer Rush all decided to mime because lets face it..... NOBODY CAN SOUND THE SAME AS THEY DID IN A RECORDING STUDIO 20 YEARS EARLIER..... NOT EVEN MIDGE! As for him not singing it again... It would hardly be an 80's tribute show, if he didn't sing the one song he'll prob be most remembered for!

As it happened, I thought it sounded great with the accoustic guitar and Josh Philips accomp. on keyboard!

And another wee piece of useless information.... I'm pretty sure this was recorded in 2001, hasn't it taken a long time to hit the airwaves?!
