Hi all, after some time playing around with Photobucket et al, I have finally got around to set up my own web site.

Still very much a work in progress, some old photos you will have seen before and some new ones loaded. More photos and info to come to fully populate the site.

Come and check it out. See you there smile

Good site, H and very easy to navigate. I'm looking forward to seeing more shots as and when you add them...... black and white seems to be very effective...

Thanks for the positive feedback folks.

I have to admit that the site is "out of a box" rather than my own mastery of HTML and Microsoft's Front Page etc. All I have had to do is load up the pictures, add comments and choose the layout and colour scheme from a number of options within.

I must admit it has saved me an awful lot of grief this way.

Great to see you opening your own site, H. I'm linked to a few Clikpic sites on my own site as some of my friends are on there. You'll be fine with them squire. You've made a good start I see, with some very nice shots on show.
Keep it going me old son.

Cheers Ash. I was a little dubious at first, but Clikpic had some good reviews in the photo mags, so I went for it.

Have you had much interest in your work since your media "exposure"?

Well, nothing major H, but things are better than they were before the BBC got in touch so I'm on the right path.
I've been monitoring the statistics section on my CMS and visitor traffic has increased by roughly 30% since the Beeb linked to my site back in August. As a knock on effect I've had quite a bit of correspondance from other photographers and businesses regarding my work. Discussions are taking place and more concrete details will follow.

In the run-up to Christmas I'll be printing, mounting and framing examples of my work and they'll be going on sale at various outlets in the north-east. My site will probably suffer slightly because of this, update-wise, but I'll still be out and about in the Autumn - camera in tow.

Lastly, St Benedict's Hospice in Sunderland have just released their 2009 calendar. Selling approximately 4000 units worldwide, the calendar shows various images of the Sunderland area (Where I'm from) which were taken by local photographers. After the hospice fundraising department advertised in the local press for suitable photo's, I emailed them the link to my site and offered them the ones that I'd shot 'Around Sunderland'. I thought it would be great to have one of mine on their calendar. A few years ago two members of my family spent thir last days in the hospice and received the best possible care during this time. It was fitting that I was recently in a position to offer a little something in return. Anyway, they got back to me and requested FOUR of my photographs!! I was over the moon. One of them is on the front cover. laugh I've got lots of orders for the calendar so I'll be popping down Sunderland Tourist Information Centre over the weekend to buy them.

One of the photographs, the December shot of Penshaw Monument, is also being used as the hospice's 2008 Official Christmas card. Again, this usually sells worldwide and also comes with a link to my site as well as the usual photographer credits. If the hospice makes a wad of cash with the calendars and cards then that will be brilliant. I might even get some more publicity in the process. wink

Cheers for asking, H. smile

Ash, you are too modest. It looks like you have made a significant impact, well done fella.

How great it is to be able to give something back to the hospice that cared for your own. You must feel very privileged to repay those so worthy.

I look forward to seeing you get an article in some the photo mags showcasing your work.

Keep it up. All the very best to ya!

I've just had a look at your gallery pics. Love the Corfe Castle shot on 2. Castles are one of my fave subjects - remember going there as a kid.

Also like the JMJ "skull" shot on 3.

One little disappointment. Shame your name covers the Corfe Castle shot on gallery 5.

Really enjoyed looking at them all.

Hi H

Don't now why I didn't see this before. Terrific pictures and they brought back some memories. Mrs Havocman and myself used to live in Poole and some of the areas that you have shown are where we used to go walking of a weekend.

For the moment, I've posted them on Photobucket at http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg166/H_____/?newest=1 and will be uploading them on my own site shortly. laugh

Lovely shots H - black and white rules for some types of shot; far better than colour in some circumstances. Lovely tones in that last one.

Hi guys, I had the opportunity to see Gary Numan at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Monday night to see "The Pleasure Principle" tour and a mighty fine show it was too. The show was two halves with the Pleasure Principle played all the way through (I think...) and later stuff in the second half, but with a smattering of Tubeway Army too with "Are Friends...? and Down in The Park.

I met our very own Mr Harris who was lucky enough to be in the Press Pit with his Press Pass and had a good ole natter too!

I managed to get a reasonable viewpoint to the right of the stage and got some good pictures of Gary.

Was using a second hand Fuji Bridge Camera that I acquired recently because I'd been clumsy enough to drop it and break the LCD screen on the back, so I had to replace my mate's camera with a new one and I had the old one.

The pictures are definitely the best I've ever got at a Numan show. The lighting is always dark and misty with Dry Ice, so getting good clear shots has always been a problem, so I'm really pleased with these. laugh

I'll be putting some up on my site shortly, but these should give you a taster....

All the best

H

Oh and one more thing....If there's anyone who could find a way to a Press Pass for the Manchester show....you know the rest!

We were about six back from the front so there wasn't much hope of getting some good shots with my compact. Grabbed half a dozen half-decent ones. Mr Harris musta got some good un's eh.
Come to think of it, I still haven't seen his 'Return To Eden' shots.

That must have been when I did I think, at Wembley Arena. Up until that point I'd been a fan but they were pants and it put me right off them! Martyn played a couple of songs off his Counterfeit ep (which I had bought and liked) but sounded like he was playing guitar with mittens on that night. Dave running round shouting "oh yeah!" for 2 hours didn't make it any better! bemused

They've obviously got better since then. smile

Hi guys, thanks for your positive comments. I've been quiet on EV over the new year, but busy with the camera. I've shot a dozen rolls of film and about 400 digital shots too. God knows how I'll find the time to get all the printing done...

I'm planning to do a big overhaul on the site soon as it needs a refresh and to get a portfolio done so I can start getting myself in the market...

I'm worn out after the latest tour, but have now managed to get out to do some travelling and shooting and to have a little time in the darkroom woohoo

Here's a few to start...two from the Peak District, a place called Solomon's Temple, high on a hill surrounded by redundant Lime Kilns, and a couple from my current project, to capture all of the local listed buildings and any other building of historical note

These are posted up on my own site at KDHarrison

Enjoy

Thanks Jen and Ash for your comments. It's high time I got back into the darkroom again. And shortly I'll be setting one up at home, so I can have more freedom. I have an enlarger on the way (free too!) and will soon be up and running.

Add a negative scanner to the mix and I'll have 15+ years of images to work on.;...

busy time for H methinks......don't think I'll get much of a tan for 2010 :p

Cheers Duncan, and thanks for your post in my guestbook, much appreciated.

The website is not my own work, it's actually one "out of a box" hosted by a firm called Clikpic. They have a set of templates designed by various website people and you can pick and choose which template you go for with some colour options too.

It was one which was well reviewed in one of the photo mags a couple of years back and I decided that I'd go with them rather than try and design my own and give myself another headache.

I've had no problems with them and have been impressed with their service on the one occasion that I had to request their help.

If you aspire to do your own site at some point, I'd have no problem recommending Clikpic, but there are penty of others out there offering a similar service, so there's plenty to choose from.

It'll be a while before my pics are worth putting on a website Ken,but I'd like to know about the printing, to print on acrylics do you need a special machine or do you go to a printing shop? in fact, do you print them at home or shop? What is the best a printer (using ink) or a machine that uses chemicals?

Duncan, it's a simple set up. A Film SLR and lens with an Infra Red filter on the front and some Infra Red film.

The film is tricky to handle...subdued light or load in total darkness, so a light tight bag is a must.

Long exposures typically between 1-8 seconds dependant upon light levels, sometimes the film can give unpredictable results, so it's good parctice to take extra shots at different exposures...a tripod is also essential..bright days with cloud give the best effect, but cloudy overcast days can give very interesting results

Processing and printing are no different to normal black and white film. It's great stuff, I love it!....as you can probably tell laugh

I can see that.As a kid I was always fascinated any time I saw someone in a dark room working(on tv)I always wanted a shot at it.To me that kind of thing was real photography, I'm not slating anyone, I just thought that was what the experts done, there was no digital ANYTHING in those days. Thanks for the reply,I still find that sort of thing very fascinating to this day,but like all good things, they're trying to stop all the analogue stuff now,I find it hard just trying to get an ordinary film for my wife@s camera and it takes the loveliest of pics

It's sad that every man and his dog have gone digital, there is still a market for the traditional stuff.

I cannot complain as my new darkroom is kitted out with stuff that people who have "gone digital" have given away for free, which I could never have bought!

WOW that was a stroke of luck. But lets face it,do you remember CDs doing away with 12" vinyl? It still hasn't happend, you can get turntables that are better than ever because because of how good CDs are and the fact that a lot of people still prefer vinyl, so don't listen to sales reps, they tell you what THEY want you to believe.

Duncan - I agree re this being about 'real' photography - I too am sad at the obsession with the digital age. I LOVE film and will never stop using it. Yes digital is convenient in some ways and for many situations but I really do like the use of film.

Hi Ash, How are you my boy?

There's been no fresh falls since the weekend, but lots of ice where the residual snow has thawed and refrozen. Plenty of frost though...a lovely hoar frost last night and today.

I was at a work do last night and drove back from Herefordshire at midnight through thick fog and icy roads. The frost on the trees was stunning.

Got back home about 1.30 and the sky was crystal clear, with loads of stars, well below zero, but beautiful. I was so done in, I went to bed though....should have got the camera out!

How's the weather in your neck of the woods...plenty of material for Christmas Cards and winter images I bet.

I'm sound as a pound kidda. Life is good!

Yes, plenty of snow up here - AGAIN!
Two weeks worth, with virtually no let-up.
Just cleared the drive - AGAIN!
Only been out with the camera twice though, but bagged a few goo un's in the process. Been busy printing and framing for the past six weeks or so. Just bought me'sel a Canon 10-22 wide angle lens. Should be here soon, so looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Still busy with plenty of updates, if you're interested...

Ash, you've certainly got some proper snow where you are. I like the blog images...the three cows in the hill beneath the monument I like the best. I'd be interested to see how the new lens shapes up.

Time I got cracking before it thaws...I'll be trying some night shots over the next few days....the annual Geminid meteor shower has started today and will peak next Monday, so will be on bulb setting for a bit!

This is nothing to do with the Germaloid shower, where you get "piles" eek of images..

Catch you soon

Cheers Duncan,

I bet you are popular at home....

I picked up a second hand Samsung GX10 with two zooms. Only 10 megapixel, with Pentax mount lenses but a good enough camera to get started with. We shall see how long it takes me to push it to its limit when I get it into a gig.

It's a very steep learning curve, and I've only dipped my toe in so far...there are way too many program modes for my lo-fi analogue mind to comprehend so far. I've figured out that there is a Bulb mode, and have worked out manual and aperture priority (which are what I have on my film cameras)...even so first time out I messed up the ISO and shot the Derbyshire pics at 1600 ISO, and through the menu system couldn't work out how to get a 100 ISO...the grain/noise works OK though...a happy accident methinks. More by luck than judgement!!!

The instant playback is most gratifying, as is the multi shot mode, which when I eventually manage to get to use it at a gig will be useful.

The jury's out and will be for a long time. Most of my stuff is landscape and architecture and the latest fastest DSLR is of little benefit in terms of capturing an image. For me it will compliment rather than replace film based image making

I have downloaded a trial version of Photoshop elements, but that's another learning curve I'm not sure I want to get into (apart from basic manipulation cleaning up etc) as it represents a significanat amount of investment of time behind a PC (which I already do for a day job!) which takes me away from taking pictures. I won't dismiss it as I see some beautiful work using this stuff, but I can't commit to that yet.

Having said that, it's a nice solid sturdy camera with decent weatherproofing and will be good in the field.

I'll keep you posted

All the best
