Odd. Just last year he was saying how he doesn't comment on Scottish politics as it would be hypocritical of him to do so when he doesn't live here.

And I remain uninfluenced. The Nats are such a bunch of nannies that they make New Labour look like libertarians. Regardless of my support for Scottish independence, I can't give them my vote.

Have to agree with that. He appears to be getting deeping involved in an election in which he isnt eligible to vote.

Yes I thought that too....I can't help but think this decision is "a bit silly" IMO....

Bit surprised Midge is getting involved with politics. I always used to hate musicians bringing politics into music ie Billy Bragg, Paul Weller, Simply Red...in my own opinion he is more or less doing the same as they did by merging the two.

Personally I actually don't give a monkeys which party my favourite musicians vote for/support, same as I don't care for which football team they support. If I like the music that's enough for me. smile

I wholly support scottish independence- on one condition: English tax revenue goes no further north than Hadrians Wall.

Oh I completely agree.

Independence must be exactly that. INDEPENDENT. Scottish MP's cannot sit in the english parliament for example.

And all Government subsidies, including welfare benefits, will cease.

Lets see how quickly the Scottish want independence then.

To be fair, the SNP claim that North Sea oil and gas revenue should be theirs and not go to Whitehall i.e the gas and oil are from Scottish waters and therefore the revenue should go to Scotland. The Nats reckon that, if this was the case, Scotland would be self-sufficient and able to become an independent, prosperous nation. As it is, London generates most of the income for the UK.

Quite why Midge is now waving the banner for the SNP I've no idea. It's not like he's expressed support for the Nats in the past and, as you say, lives in the (English) west country. Beware nationalists of any hue.

Just an alternative perspective.... ie that one's views/opinions can and do change/evolve over time and it's his right to get involved if he wishes to do so. Speaking from personal experience just because one lives elsewhere for whatever reason and is no longer eligible to vote in Scotland doesn't stop one being concerned about the country and wanting whoever would do best by it in power.

Leaving aside any political issues it should be a great gig for those lucky enough to be there!

Fair point Emulator but according to industry forecasts there is about 30 years left of gas and oil. That said advances in technology could extend the known fields to a maximum of 50 years BUT it is a finite resource. However surely we'll all be power by wind turbines on our roof by then or living on Mars...or Moon Base Alpha!! laugh

True point - I've voted for 3 different parties over the years. I don't have an 'allegiance' to any party, I just vote for who I think will do the best job on the day!!

The scottish claim to the Gas and Oil is bogus- becuase they didn't have the resources to exploite it- that was BP.

AS for changing polical views I agree- however I really dislike having bands political views waved in my face. I like a band for their music not who they vote for - if fact using the music as a vehicle for promoting them is one sure fire way of alienating me. That's (one of the reasons) why I don't listen to U2.

Ultravox will never reform.

Ultravox may reform, never say never.

We're going out on tour next year, but wont be doing any new recording.

We're recording a new album.

And in addition to that - evesdropping at Newcastle - question to Midge "Do you think Ultravox will ever record a new album?" MU pulls a face of horror and replies "absolutely no chance.." or words to that effect!!!!

Yes it does. See here ....
Scottish parliament voting system

The result should be that 'the overall allocation of seats is proportional to the number of votes received' ... a much fairer system than 'first past the post'.
