Yes Ken, I used a circular polariser on the second shot. The light loss was approx 2 'f stops' but I compensated with a longer shutter speed. When rotated, the polariser brings out the rich colours. A nice little bit of kit to have tucked away in the back-pack.

Apologies for the technical 'And sometimes boring' patter. shocked [/b]
Thanks for the bit of techy info Ash. I now have one of those polariser thingys, and have tried it out on a few pictures of myself. Just a few head and shoulders pics, nothing special, just to try out the effects with said gadget. If i post a picture here, maybe you could help me figure why it highlighted all the bags n wrinkles. frown Im pretty sure i can look better with a few tweaks to the lighting etc. confused2 [/b]
You are a better photographer than you are making yourself sound here. confused2

When he sees her & Dani in the shower - how soon will be before he sings "Itsy Bitsy" etc, if he hasn't done so already. Why did they choose David Van Day? I'd rather have seen Thereze Bazaar. Still a nice looking lady.

That's the style Ken - get them uploaded when ya gerra minute. It doesn't matter if ya don't rate ya photo's that highly, that's not what this section is about. Everyone who uploads photo's here is capable of great shots and they've proved it. It's just nice to have a variation of subjects and places. Most of my place shots are locations where I live so it's always refreshing to see other locations around the UK and abroad. I'm interested in close-up's as I'm not very good at them and struggle to get decent shots when I try. I prefer low light work and the occasional landscape.

So haway, join in with the uploads... wink

Well i know Ash, Helen, Jen, and H have different styles from each other. Mine i would say are almost always b/w panoramic landscapes and grainy.

These were taken in 2004 (judging by their style), but adapted early today for their public appearance. smile

When I left school in 1984 it was my wish to become a photographer, i attended art and design college in Liverpool and completed a course in Visual Communications..Printing, Design Photography etc. unfortunately I didn't pursue my dream I ended up settling down having 2 kids, mortgage etc and followed a different career path altogether. frown However last year i got a Nikon D40 Digital SLR for a birthday present, my artistic desire has now returned with a vengeance. smile

Maryann.... as far as I know pretty much everyone on the thread/section are amatuers/hobbyists...... that's what it's all about hun, so if you've got a talent, get your pics up!

jojo..... you just have to go out and do it! I'm the complete opposite..... I always liked art but never intended an arty career. It was all academic subjects I took at school etc, I rebelled against going to Uni and started working full time when I left school, designing kitchens. I decided to go pro (photographer) full time and set up the business because it allows me to be at home full time with the children as they are both pre-school age. I haven't looked back!
If you've got the passion, run with it and indulge it! wink

Good to see some of your pics on here Ken....... looking forward to seeing more. It'll be good to have the photography forum re energised by more photographers posting some of their work.
I miss the Highlands light and views........haven't used the camera since we moved south......too many buildings and people marring the landscape not to mention the traffic! And so far nothing to inspire me to take a pic.

I agree with you Jen regarding the highlands and Islands of Scotland, my brother moved to Scotland in 2002, firstly living in Inverness then going to the Inner Hebrides, some of the photo's I took by Loch Ness then of Mull and Iona are breathtaking. I have always been a fan of b/w industrial photography but have never attempted any shots. There is a stark beauty to industrial which I appreciate and which you captured well in your photos, K.

My favorite photographer of that genre is Sebastiao Salgado. He is a genius.

Maryann, Salgado is awesome. His images always fill the frame with such infinite detail and atmosphere....inspirational.

Back in the darkroom tomorrow for a printing session....yippee.

There won't be anything as good as Salgado's but it will be theraputic for me.

Hi Jojo,

You need to either host the image online somewhere like Flickr and paste the URL in when you press the 'IMAGE' button, or email your photos to me at ev@Ultravox.org.uk and I'll host them here for you. Once I've uploaded them, I'll send the URLs for you to use in your post.

Cheers!

What a lovely pair of photo's Jojo!
I like them a lot and look forward to seeing more in the near future. I like the 'Fingers' poking through the gaps in the cloud formation on your first photo - excellent! cool
The second landscape shot is cool, very cool infact. Keep up the good work eh. wink
