Upload time again folks. wink

A few winter scenes that were taken over the Christmas holidays...

DURHAM CATHEDRAL

PANORAMIC VIEW OF DURHAM CITY (An 8 frame stitch)

HYLTON CASTLE, SUNDERLAND (Another 8 frame stitch)

DURHAM CITY

These are the last photo's that I will be uploading to this site, taken on my Nikon D80. After a successful time selling my work recently, plus shifting the Nikon via eBay, I decided an upgrade was overdue. I invested in a Canon 7D, a couple of lenses and a battery grip.
First impressions - well, it's the dogs danglers! wink Just waiting for the weather to pick up and there'll be no stopping the pig. Just need that large format printer now! woohoo

Thanks very much folks!

Gillian, the photo you mention is probably my favourite out of all the snow scenes I shot this Winter. When I glanced across and saw the scene I thought it had 'Christmas Card' written all over it. The camera then came out of the bag. I'll definately be pushing this one next Winter. smile

Thought you may be interested in these 2 forums, specific to 7D and canon lenses, you can pick uop some interesting tips here..

Thanks Daz.
Yes, I'll certainly check out those links so thanks again.

It was a straight choice between the 7D and 5D MK2, but I opted for the 7D in the end. Couldn't justify paying over two grand at this stage but full frame should be my next step if things stay on track.

As for the results, well, it's been over a week now and I haven't had a chance to get out in the field with me new kit. frown Either the weather has been poor or I've been busy with other things, but hopefully I'll get out and about with the camera this weekend.

Yeah, the reviews spoke very highly of the 7D's capability during low-light work, which was a big factor in my final decision. I seem to be doing more of this type of photography so I'm sure to continue for some time yet. Low noise, high ISO...go on then, al hev a birra that! smile

Might have some 7D shots on here next week.
The next chapter is almost here... wink

Yeah, I shifted a boat load of framed prints in the run-up to Christmas and offloading my Nikon D80 through eBay helped with the funding too.
Just been commissioned by my local tourist centre to supply 3,500 postcards of local scenes, with a possibility of striking up a similar agreement with the Durham and Newcastle branches. Also got Card Factory and Clinton Cards interested so the 7D will be firmly put to the test very shortly.

I popped out for a couple of hours this afternoon after last nights snowfall. This was mainly an excercise to get familiar with the camera layout and settings but I must say that I was very pleased with the few shots I got.

I'll set aside a bit time to upload a few on here so stay tuned.

How's your stuff coming along mate?
Do tell. wink

Ere, a wish a had shares in Canon. Us newbies must be topping up their coffers, eh. wink

Well folks, yesterday I took my 7D out for it's first test after a snowfall on Friday night. I shot in RAW format at a few locations and was quite pleased with the results. I haven't converted them to Jpeg yet so it might be a few days before I upload some on here.

Today I ventured out to take more photographs. This time I shot Jpeg's at a nature reserve near where I live. It was freezing cold but I wasn't too bothered about that as I got to grips with me new toy. It was Mute Swans I was after - it was Mute Swans I found. Hope u like 'em. smile

Hi Ash, things are busy at the moment, I'm still working on Black and White images from my trip to Switzerland over Christmas. I've uploaded more of my digital and colour scanned images to my website in the last few days and have upgraded my Clikpic account to give me more capacity (I can now display 500 images and get a quicker uploading process too!).

I've oficially had my first customer through the site and sold my first print last weekend and got a great buzz from it. So its onwards and upwards from here on in.

I need to restructure the galleries to a more logical layout. I think that using subjects/categories rather than Gallery numbers will be better.

Now to shoot some more local subjects to build up the portfolio and target the local outlets.

First impresssions of DPP - not impressed. Still trying to work out how to convert from CR2 to Jpeg, although I've only faffed on with it for arfa nour. The majority of me workflow goes through LR so I'll just stick wi' that fi noo.

CS4 is a nice bit o' kit anarl...oh yes!
Working a 7 day week so the 7D might be sat in the Lowepro during this time. Poor bairn! frown

Hi there CP,

I've just checked out your website and galleries for the first time - and WOW!!!!

I know nothing about photography at all but I know what I like and your photographs are brilliant!!!

I especially like the Farne Island ones. I'm a bit of an amateur bird watcher myself and I love puffins, Farne Island is somewhere I'd like to visit for sure - your pictures of wildlife there are just lovely (especially the puffins). Please hurry up and get the store bit of your website up and running - I'd love a puffin print or two laugh

Loverly as usual. Some relatively long exposures there, well handled. Tell me, what lens?

The lens was the bog standard 18-135 that came with the body, Daz. Gonna squeeze it to the max before I splash the cash on more glass. It seems to be doing a grand job at the mo but I've got my eye on a 10-20 wide, so it might get it's nose pushed out soon.
Will have to check the Exif data for the Millennium Bridge shot as it was taken a while back and I don't remember what shutter I used. The York Minster pics, taken just over a week ago, were somewhere around a 15-20 second shutter and triggered remotely. Each image was created from three separate exposures, bracketed at 2 stop increments, then merged to HDR.

I've got lots of new stuff going up on My Website soon and I'll add a few more here when I get a minute.

How's your stuff coming along then squire?
Bout time ya hoyd a few up on here. wink

The 10-22efs has gotta be your lens of choice, perfect for what you do.

Slightly off topic but did Rob get his lens back. FYI he misplaced his 10-22 at the hammy M&G..

That reminds of when I was a youth....You know that bit between leaving school and now....You couldn't get into a club in Birmingham without a suit and a tie (what on earth happenned??).

There I was, all dressed up, ready to go, suited and booted. My mum said to my dad, don't H look smart?

My dad, not known for his compliments looked up from his paper and said..

"You can put a pig in a suit, but he's still a pig!"

God Bless ya dad!

But enough of the suit crack - here's a landscape shot that I took over the Easter weekend. We'd been in Hawkshead earlier in the day and the weather was rainy and overcast. I stood at this vantage point and the potential shot was right in front of me, but the poor weather killed it. Typically, after travelling back to base the weather took on a dramatic turn as the cloud cover parted and the sun broke through. After 20 minutes it got even better. I made the 40 mile round trip back to Hawkshead and returned to the spot I'd visited earlier in the day.

I've got to say, I think it was well worth the effort. What a lovely place... smile
