Just found this:

COMING 3/17/2008
The long overdue reissue of this classic 1982 album 'The Anvil', by the pioneers of the New Romantic movement, Visage. The album reached No.6 in the UK album charts. The album produced two hit singles for the band, 'The Damned Don't Cry' (No.11) and 'Night Train' (No.12). Visage were a supergroup of their day, formed by Steve Strange and ex-Rich Kid Rusty Egan, they recruited Billy Currie and Midge Ure from Ultravox, Dave Formula and Barry Adamson from Magazine and John McGeogh from Siouxsie & The Banshees. Together they produced 2 innovative and commercially successful albums with the resulting 5 hit singles. This CD reissue features 6 bonus tracks not included on the original 9 track release. These include dance mixes of the hit singles 'Mind Of A Toy' and 'The Damned Don't Cry' and the rare b-sides 'Motivation' and 'I'm Still Searching'. The CD booklet features sleeve notes, discography and all the single sleeves taken from the original album. As the leading lights of the New Romantic movement, Visage's legacy is lasting. The band's reputation for producing quality electronic pop lives on. TRACKS: 1. THE DAMNED DON'T CRY 2. ANVIL (NIGHT CLUB SCHOOL) 3. MOVE UP 4. NIGHT TRAIN 5. THE HORSEMAN 6. LOOK WHAT THEY'VE DONE 7. AGAIN WE LOVE 8. WILD LIFE 9. WHISPERS BONUS TRACKS 10. WE MOVE (DANCE MIX) 11. FREQUENCY 7 (DANCE MIX) 12. THE DAMNED DON'T CRY (DANCE MIX) 13. MOTIVATION 14. I'M STILL SEARCHING 15. THE MIND OF A TOY (DANCE MIX)

Thanks very much for that news!

Seems odd that 'We Move', 'Frequency 7', and 'Mind Of A Toy' dance mixes are included. What happens if 'Visage' is re-released, hope it dont include dance mixes of 'The Anvil' tracks. That whould make this track listing an even stranger choice.

Yes, very strange track list! Thank God, the b-sides are included - but where are dance mixes of Night Train and The Anvil? What kind of people creates such erroneous releases? Can't they check any discogaphy?

I'm very disappointed... frown

We Move and Frequency 7 are already on the last US release of The Anvil, so that's not odd to me at least. Mind Of A Toy is an odd one, but may possibly be linked to release dates abroad.

Any word on whether this re-issue, to steal Ken's thunder, will be remastered?

I'm perplexed by the extra tracks too. As I've written elsewhere what we need are definitive remasters of all three albums (ok,Beat boy wasn't great but I'm a completist). In an ideal world these would include all 7" and 12" versions plus B-sides.If there are any other unreleased rarities these would obviously be great too. Ok, I'm getting carried away now but one can hope.

Hello everyone - this is my first post!

I rang Cherry Red yesterday to find out more about this release. Unfortunately, the album is NOT remastered, which is hugely disappointing - the first 2 albums really deserve the deluxe re-release treatment in my view. The sound quality is not great on current CD releases. Oh well, at least we can pick up CD versions of the 2 B Sides...

Here is the exact reply I got from the label-

"Hi there, I have checked with the production manager about the cd you enquired about. Tracks 1-11 have been sourced from an American version
of the CD and then a further four tracks have come from elsewhere.
The tracks haven't been individually remastered.

I hope this answers your question."

Great site by the way.

Hi Miles, welcome and thanks for the clarification! My worst suspicions are justified frown
By the way, "elsewhere" seems to be "from vinyl"...

Thanks Miles for taking the time to clear this up. Im pleased in some way that their not remastered, as that still leaves the need for the first three albums to not only be remastered by a major label, but also the correct track listing sorted too. Theres many of us here thats waited too long for this to be the first of the definitive released versions.

I think I'm still going to buy it - I have the US release already, but I don't have the 2 B Sides. I shall let you know if there is any noticeable sound difference.

Why does "The Anvil" always seem to come with "Visage" tracks? I don't get it. At least this time they've added the two B-sides but it isn't like there are other tracks at could have been added. 12" versions of the singles for a start, Pleasure Boys and The Anvil remix spring straight to mind.

That said, it a good piece of work that seems to have dated rather well.

I checked my record store this week and there are no Visage cds at all. Even though I am hesitant about The Anvil, I still would like it for the collection.

Maryann. The Anvil is an excellent album. The overall sound is more cohesive than the first album. It contains many excellent tracks. I love The Damned Don't Cry, which is longer than the single version. I also prefer the album version of Night Train to the single version. I'm not surprised Midge was peeved when John Luongo was brought in to remix it for single. For me there isn't a dud track. You really should buy it if you can.

Agree about The Anvil - I prefer it to the debut, though 'Visage' is still excellent. Again We Love, in particular, is a phenomenal track, probably my fave all-time Visage track next to Damned Don't Cry.

Sorry, this post is quite old. But I have a question about sound quality of 1st album 2002(ish) re-issue. I have the CD that was released in the 90,s (or late 80's?) with no bonus track. Does the 2002 re-issued CD has any improvement in sound quality?

I have the same question. The old CD has very flat sound. Is it worth buying?

Ditto here!
The Anvil contains some outstanding keyboard
and synth work! The Anvil is without doubt one
of my all time top 5 albums.

For those who don`t know the tracks, here are
a couple of them:
Move Up:

Whispers:

And I`ve always liked the track "Yesterday`s
Shadow" from the "not so good" album Beat Boy
a lot! Brilliant!
