OMD's new album The History Of Modern demonstrates that the band can still craft accessible and smart pop songs.

Sister Marie Says has been made available as a special treat for OMD fans. The song has a classic OMD sound and shows the hooks and choral samples that have established the band as one of the UK's premier acts.

"Great song - if OMD can do - so can ULTRAVOX"

After "Return to Eden 2" I recommend "Return to Studio 2010" smile

Have fun with this great new OMD-Song!!!

I like it. I understand some of the criticisms being raised on the OMD forums about it being too Liberator-era in style but I don't think that's a problem necessarily. It's a bouncy fun pop track and sometimes that's enough...

They were hardly likely to craft something like Enola Gay or Joan of Arc - they were a LONG time ago in OMD history. They changed a lot after that.

It would be like expecting Spandau Ballet to do an album of The Freeze or To Cut a Long Story Short clones...

As opposed to the MUCH more recent True-era clones?

I dunno - is that what they are doing now? I just meant that they changed their style quite substantially before hitting the buffers - SB are known as a MOR bland adult pop band (sorry!) more than an early 80s synth led NR band. And in a slightly different direction, OMD went the same way - more pop oriented.

Agreed. I don't know what they do now, to be honest. A happy medium can be struck, however. The Human League 'Secrets' album (blimey that seems ages ago now) was quite a poppy album but with echoes of their earlier more experimental style.

Doris Stokes was a happy medium; but striking her seems a bit harsh. wink

And they look as if they have managed to get a suitable support act

I was really pleased when VILLA NAH were chosen to be support act because I think they've done one of the best albums of 2010 so far in 'Origin'. Here's an interview I did with them in June and a live review from May so those of you who are going know what you're in for:

Meanwhile, the brilliant Brighton quartet MIRRORS are confirmed as support for the European tour:

IMHO, these were the sort of acts ULTRAVOX should have had as support rather than some of the acoustic nightmares we were offered.
