Hi everyone

Like most here, I'm beyond excited for the return of Ultravox.

I just wanted to say that an interview I did back in May 2008 with Gary Numan has finally gone online. There is a fair bit of discussion on JF, Ultravox and Midge Ure. Here is the link:

Best wishes and a happy new year to you all...

I think he needs to get over his hatred of Midge as he must realise that people tend to say stupid things when they get famous. I understand how peed off he was about it, but that was nearly 30 years ago ffs.

Disappointed that he doesn't really appreciate the nostalgia factor or what attracted people to his music in the first place, but he's entitled to that view. I think his electronic phase, all the way through to The Fury, is far superior to his current style - although Sacrifice and Exile were better than anything after Warriors or at least My Assassin.

Adam, thanks a lot for the link!

As the offtopic - it seems to me that the online version of the interview with Rusty Egan from the prevoius issue (http://www.beatmag.net/issue19/features/friends.php) isn't complete. Am I right? And how (and where) can I read the rest? I really want to read the full one! smile

Thanks much Adam, I too really enjoyed your interview with GN, it revealed more about why he'll always be as irritating as he is inspiring to most of us.

On the one hand it's a shame he's so riddled with insecurity but his first few records (the great ones) are unique in what they are because it, lyrically especially. On the other it meant he'd inevitably implode as he increasingly doubted his talent and became more of a mimic, Nine Inch Numan as some have said.

And he's still annoyed with Midge for making a couple of incendiary comments nearly 25+ years ago, honestly!

PS. I too would be very interested in reading the rest of your interview with Rusty Egan, what are the chances?

Is it because of Midge's comment (about stealing from Ultravox) on Gary prevent him from going back to 78-80 era? He even mentioned how unhappy he was on stage performing "Replicas 08" tour. However, I also think Midge's comment was also a bit harsh.
After all Numanoid is only "Human"...

Oop!! wrong band Numan-league.

Whilst I can appreciate Numan's pecadillos regarding his Asbergers issues etc and so I take what he says with a pinch of salt (and I am a huge fan), I think he should re-name his big hit 'Scars' (here in my scars I feel safest of all / it's the only way to live / in scars / blah blah blah)

I do think he should grow up and get a life like the rest of us. You would hope that marriage and having kids would have helped him to smell the coffee and get real. Still a fan though laugh
