'Cold War KIds'...the passion pit remix of 'what is mine is yours'. Got a very 80/90's feel to it...not sure who it reminds me off...Alphaville maybe?

Been listening to a 2009 "New Romantics" 3 x CD compilation. Got about 54 tracks on it including a few I'd never heard before.

Can't think why someone gave it to a charity shop as there is nothing wrong with it bemused & I was happy to pay 1 for it!! smile

What are you listening to now?

Currently listening to an album that is only available via download, so I coughed up and paid itunes the going rate.

A little bit of a story behind this one...

During the early nineties me and a few mates regularly visited Sunderland town centre pubs on a Saturday night. One of those pubs was called Idols and the girls behind the bar were a bit tasty. They all wore skimpy bikini's - the place was always packed - it must have been the good beer eh, he he. wink Anyway, one of the barmaids used to have a bit flirt with me each week and we eventually got to know eachother better. She had a friend, who worked alongside her who was called Ruth. Nice girl too! A few years later I was watching TOTP and there was Ruth, singing a song that later topped the charts - I was gobsmacked!

This is the song

Ruth later went on to feature as a guest vocalist on some of the Enigma albums, which I've been a big fan of since 1990. In 2007 she released her own album 'What About Us' which was produced by Enigma mastermind, Michael Cretu. This is the album I'm now listening to and it's excellent. Can't stop playing it. lurve

Two tracks from the album...

Beautiful

More Than Ordinary

Mr Cretu may have been married to but was certainly the producer of a German artist called Sandra who I developed a huge crush on whilst on holiday in the late 80's. Still love her work even today & "We'll Be Together" - her single at that time - was lustily watched whilst sipping 1.50 Cinzano & lemonade!! biglaugh

The Daily Mail & other tabloids have given away some excellent CD's/DVD's in the past. Occasionally had some good ones from the Sunday broadsheets.

Hadn't realised the Mail gave away 'Parallel Lines' the other year!!

Think it was them that did a series of 80s ones a few years back ie Spandaue Ballet 'True', Haircut 100 'Pelican West' etc.

I ended up getting this too but don't know why as I haven't listened to it!! It'll probably just end up with the pile of unplayed purchased/freebie CD's in my collection!! I did think at first it was the whole album but like you say it's only 5 tracks. Guess this is the time of year when all the papers will now start giving away CD's/DVD's, with the latter usually a film by a major star that is probably the worst one of his/her career!!

The new remixed version of Iggy Pop and James Williamson's Kill City album. A really underrated album IMO and this new version rocks like a wotsit.

FACT....whilst temping about 4/5 years ago I worked with Keith Moon's then 21 year old niece. Obviously she never knew her famous Uncle but her Mum was Keith's sister.

Joe Meek was a well known record producer & songwriter whose most famous work was the bloody awful (imo) 'Telstar' by The Tornadoes. He committed suicide in 1967 with the same shotgun he had just used to murder his landlady.

I'm not 100% sure but I think there was a fim released in recent times about him.
