Ok, the gig In Slanj is now officially CONFIRMED! excited

Tickets will be 3.00 (an absolute bargain, squire!!!!) available from the "hostilery" itself and other outlets we will let you know in due course. The band will be onstage around 9.30 and there will be plenty of other 80's music to keep the atmosphere going.

A nice little home gig to celebrate our third year of keeping the Ultravox music live. smile
Should be a good night with our own local TV celebrity Bobby "River City" Harrison doing his sterling work on lights AND the return of a song that we only played a couple of times (and no, its not the one that some idiot in the band announced as "Here's a song that Ultravox never recorded..."). excited

Good point, Helen. I'm planning on coming up to Scotland midweek that week.. hopefully going to Greenock the night before Fourgoodmen play at the Shindig In The Square at Glasgow on St.Andrews Day. Plans are not set in stone, but Mark has given me the ok to go to both gigs, so I'm hopeful of making both events.

Is there anywhere cheaper than the Express by Holiday Inn to stay in Greenock? It's a bit of a hike for one person if there are any local b&b's..

Unfortunately, Shirl, you're rather limited for choice when it comes to accomodation in Greenock. There's really only 3 hotels and a couple of B&Bs. If you widen your search to include Gourock you might get a few more. There are plenty of bus services operating to get you around and the views are pretty spectacular. [/Inverclyde tourist board mode]
Also, with Slanj being a pub rather than a club, we'll have to get all the equipment out after the gig, so there will be a couple of folk staying sober enough to drive, so you should be able to cadge a lift... wink

That is a possibility, yes, based on availability due to salability based on desirability.

Or you could always get one in advance from Don... wink

Yes well a little birdie did say that the sales were going very well. Therefore one wouldn't want to miss the boat so to speak. However, one never really does have control over whether one's partner can or cannot assertain in advance the expected duration or pattern of said partners working conditions. Therefore, one wouldn't want to burden the aforementioned band member, nor engage a covetted placement, which would otherwise remain vacant for a more worthy recipient.

Thanks for the info and for the lift offer, Mike. I've had a look on various sites and found (though not yet contacted) a rather nice looking place in Inverkip. Is anyone going back through to city centre Glasgow, or would there be a possibility of someone getting me to the train station for a late train through to Glasgow? My option would be to book a bed at the Eurohostel. Failing that, I'll get in touch with the folk at Inverkip..

I've just checked the train timetable, and there's a train from Greenock Central at 11.29pm for Glasgow Central. Would I be able to make that train ok if I plan to stay in Glasgow that night? How far is the station from the pub?

Shirl, its about 15 minutes walk, you would be quicker going to Greenock West which is, unfortunately, the stop before Greenock Central, so you'd need to leave earlier. Add to that the fact that we're planning to play 2 sets which will take us beyond midnight, you'd miss the end of the gig... frown

Ouch.. I'll have to think about it as I don't really want to miss any of the gig. I'm not sure if I can afford the place I have my eye on in Inverkip. It's definitely going to work out more expensive than the Eurohostel though..

Hi Helen. The Eurohostel is on the corner of Clyde St and Jamaica St, opposite the Jurys Inn, and close to Central Station..

ie It's very "in" Glasgow laugh

The lift would be very useful thanks.. when would you know for definite if you are going?

Exit Greenock West, don crash helmet and kevlar vest, turn left and walk down Inverkip Street.

As you walk over the bridge look right and gaze in wonder at the patrons of the Argyll and Sutherland bar huddled in sub-zero temperatures having a communal cigarette.
Continue on and pass The Victorian Suite on your left with the patrons huddled in sub-zero temperatures having a communal cigarette.

Continue on at the roundabout down past the Green Oak Bar on your left with the...(you've guessed it...)

Now it gets tricky...

Cross at the bottom of the road, but keep left onto the pedestrian pathway going left of the block of flats. You should see a pub on the corner called "Above and Below" with the patrons huddled...

turn left at this bar (onto West Stewart Street) and walk past the bus stops to the traffic lights. Cross at the lights, then turn right (doubling back, only on the opposite side of the road) walk the few yards and turn left on to the next street (Nicolson Street).

Slanj is at the bottom of that street on the right hand side. You can't miss it - there will be patrons huddled outside in sub-zero temperatures having a communal cigarette...

Oh, and don't forget your coat, its pretty cold this time of year - especially if you're going for a smoke....

Alternatively give one of us a bell when you get here and we'll pick you up...

excited

I'm not going to make this one. I had every intention of making it happen, but my contract's not going to be renewed, so I really ought to milk it for every penny; if I take time off that's money gone for good.

The up-side is that as of 14th December I am free, and jollys to Scotland become a whole lot more practical.

Yep, have good one.

Just thinking, as the setlist is still new, and the sound and arrangements are tighter than ever. Any chance of still getting someone in at the last minute to record the audio at pro level.

Well, I got the photos developed yesterday....... I was going to put them on MySpace, but I'll let Davy weed out which ones they want to use or lose. Here are just a couple, completely random.........

Right,
For those of you who can't hold out any longer and keep hastling me, ( I know it's been a WHOLE WEEK since the gig! LOL) I'll stick the photos on the MySpace page...... I was going to email them to you, but there are just far too many. The boys can edit them back off MySpace as they see fit! smile

Some very good shots there Helen. Those there at the gig are no doubt pleased with how you captured the moment. I'd say wish I'd been there but no I don't because I was at Langholm....and I wouldn't have wanted to be any place else. Hopefully, you'll be able to get some more good pics at The Ferry next year.....hint, hint!

Done, that took me all of about a minute and a half! So, sorry you had to wait over a week.... I should have done it sooner!

Jen.... Thankyou very much for your kind comments.... I shall try my very best to get good shots (nothing is guaranteed) bemused but I shall be dragging the gear with me.... so I'll be fun to be around! nervouslaugh (NOT! LOL biglaugh )
