If you put together a cd of the tracks submitted in the covers competition in the style of " The Collection " album and you also can have two bonus tracks, what would they be?

Here are mine:

1) Dancing With Tears In My Eyes: Goldenboy
2) Hymn: Monument
3) The Thin Wall - MIB Version: Mike Lyden
4) The Voice: Remind
5) Vienna: The Ok State
6) Passing Strangers: Nils Gunther
7) Sleepwalk: Monument
8) Reap The Wild Wind: Darren Cowie
9) All Stood Still: Martin Eklund
10) Visions In Blue - Alternative Version: Releveler
11) We Came To Dance
12) One Small Day: Box of Sky
13) Loves Great Adventure - Cocktail Version: Neil Dube
14) Lament: Frank Helander

Bonus Tracks:

15) We Stand Alone: Ultima Beep
16: Man of Two Worlds: Jesper Nielsen & Helen Wallace

The only one that gets my vote as I haven't been able to listen to any others submitted is the excellent "Sleepwalk" by Electro 80s. There is also an excellent live version of "Vienna" on their website.

Having said that - I saw Monument back in April, already know how excellent they are so they would go into a comp as well. smile

I can't do either. sad Can put together & present a rather fine radio show from time to time, even if I do say so myself......& quite a lot of the time I do!! But hey so long as the occasional patient who happens to stumble upon it enjoys a moment or two of it that's all that matters!!

This thought suddenly occured to me as I walked in the rain from one library to another nearer home......just how many females have entered the competition this year, or indeed in previous years? confused2

I then thought - having heard that youtube "cover" of Hymn on another thread which has a male/female duet, I'd be interested to hear a female vocalist have a crack at "Lament", possibly Hymn or, dare I suggest it - Vienna. There is one person who comes to mind who is on my facebook & does sing who I'd personally like to see have a go.

I would love to collaborate with someone next time round. I am a singer but don't play any instrument well enough to contribute something on my own.

As you have come forward Lynne - it is YOU I was referring to in my earlier post. I really think you could do an excellent job. Admittedly I've never heard you sing, but from what I have read about your singing in the past from your other fb friends I really believe you should do it. smile

I definitely feel there should be more female representation in the competition, hence the reason for my original comment. Certainly in one genre of music I listen to - rock - female musicians are scorned in some areas for even daring to pick up an instrument eek or else they are just dismissed as a nice piece of eye candy without much attention being paid to the musical talent. rolleyes

...whereas in other musical genres they flourish, i.e. Kate Bush, Bat For Lashes, Bjork, Alison Goldfrapp etc.

True.....& ok, they are an exception in the rock genre...but Girschool wouldn't still be going after 30 odd years without having some talent!!

As the discussion on Radio 5 last night commented about Cowell killing music....where will Leona Lewis be in 5 years time?!!!
