Chris,

I'm on my fourth 'hiss hiss 30' and to be honest I was not aware there was an owners manual for the synth, but in saying that there's bound to be.

I did have a look a while back and there isn't anything on the internet about it.
Why don't you advertise over on SOS & Vintage Synth Exp...good luck matey

Hi Don

Thanks for your reply.

Any keyboard sold would come with some sort of pamphlet. I've seen it somewhere on-line but one must part with a tenner! rolleyes

By the way Mick MacNeil used one on the first three SM albums. Ultravox, Magazine, SM...and Monument/Party Fears Three cannot go wrong. Best string machine title?!

To get the Ultravox effect would it be the Yamaha analogue delay, flanger, phaser, space echo or just a good amp?

Cheers!
Chris

Chris,

Spot on mate, Simple Minds used it quite a bit, especially on 'Life In A Day'

As for using FX with the string synth, just saturate with lashings of reverb!

As for the number one spot for string synths?
100% correct, puts the ARP Solina to shame cool

I've got the virtual string machine VST and it is bloody good. I could play the Eminent sound (JM Jarre) for hours. Nice to switch to an SS30 and Solina though, or even mix the 2!

Purchased a copy of the manual but....it's a service manual! eek rolleyes

I doubt that string machines ever came with user manuals. There's nothing much to it.

By the way the ARP Solina Ensemble is still on my hit list. It has a different sound to the Yamaha SS-30, both can blend in nicely.
