Her's the moment you've been waiting for, folks - after much deliberation, here are the winners of the EV Covers Competition 2006! The WINNERS RESULTS PDF can be downloaded here and the winning entries can be heard here . Thanks for entering everyone, we're so hugely impressed by all your passion, effort and talent, and judging the winners was a very difficult task indeed. We hope you'll make life just as difficult for us again next year!

Thanks again to everybody, Cerise too. Think you are happy that this is done now Cerise, aren't you? Funny thing is, I had the winners not really on my personal list, only exception was Mike Lyden's entry, which is really outstanding and funny. But when I was carefully reading the comments of Cerise I realized that she and Rob did a very fair judging. Well done! All the tracks of my personal favourite's list somehow "bubbled under", but the field was very close this year as you said. So congratulations to the winners, and also to the remaining field. I don't want to say that everybody of you (and us too) is a winner now (because then there would be no need in such a competition), but I really can't see loosers in this way. And again I want to say that taste is different and sometimes it reflects only a temporary personal opinion. So I found no better final words in this years competition than the original words Sepp Herberger used when his crew lost a soccer-game. I hopefully translate it in the right way but the content of it is clear I think: " After the game is just before the game". Meaning to everybody of you, pls. participate on next years CC, I personally would like to hear from you, really. This years CC encouraged me to try it eventually next time. There is a "nebulous" idea since weeks in my mind. I am not sure I can really make it alone. But there are again 18 months now to give it a try... BV

If you have a read of the Results PDF, you'll see that we did deliberate on that, but as members of Ultravox were involved in Visage, the Levi's theme and the Max Headroom theme, the entries were deemed to be valid: ...we had four excellent Ultravox-related entries this year, which caused a bit of a dilemma. Warren’s original definition of the Best Cover and Best Re-mix / Re-cover categories did state Ultravox covers or remixes, but after some deliberation agreed that the definition should be expanded to include related tracks, in which a member or members of Ultravox played a part. The definitions will be clarified for next year’s competition.Electro 80s, your entry was technically excellent and got some high marks, but was felt to lack some of the vocal passion of the original. Fade to Grey on the other hand was felt to have an added spark. I'm sorry you feel slighted because the winner was a track which only featured two members of Ultravox, but across four mods and both judges you were voted into fourth place. We even conferred with an outside, third judge on the Covers section as it was a really tough one to do, but we all concurred. Even if we had limited the comp to strictly Ultravox tracks only, you still would have been four points short of winning and three points short of Honourable Mention status. Please take heart though, and enter again next year - I'm sure you'll do well.

Agree on the version of My Sex, it's simply wonderful. I don't agree with the winner mind, but that's opinions for you. It should have been Maurizio's Lament in my humble opinion.

Congrats to the winners, well deserved! I agree, Fade to Grey is excellent... fab production and a great vocal performance. I now have 19 months of vocal training to look forward to (did I ever mention that I can't sing!) As BlueVision knows, I can turn a track around within a couple of days, so by October 2007 I should be able to manage a song or two Looking forward to it, and as the younger ones around here might say... Ummm... Bring - it - on!

What was and is still my (and Thorsten´s) motivation for participating in the competition?: Have fun and presenting my work to people who have the same favourite musicians. To win in a category is a very nice bonus but it wasn´t our main aim. I´m very proud of it and I told it to everyone who didn´t want to hear it. :-) But you know, in 2004, when I took part with my Astradyne-version and I gained "nothing", I was very happy and proud too because I have been a part of it and many people who love Ultravox the same way listened to my version. I listened to all the tracks of the competition and I took many of them to my favourites. And I think the "western fire-wall" was really the best choice for the Ari-Leppä-Award. I´m still laughing. Great job, Mike! Cerise, thank you for giving us this platform to present our music. Many thanks for your and the moderators work. I`ll enjoy listening to all the new tracks in the competition 2007 and I hope I (maybe with Thorsten again) can take part again with a new track.
