Bah, still nowhere near the sound - It would help if i had an idea of what it sounded like pre-fx, so far i've only heard the performances - I dont know just how much work the FX do.

Has anyone got any examples of what it should sound like before you put it through distortion/flanger?

Earlier in this thread = 4 YEARS ago... Excuse me but I can't remember what I was doing YESTERDAY!

Probably don't have it unfortunately - I lost most of my emails 2 years ago.

So Mr Jesper - why don't you still have it?!!! :p

Hehehehehe...okay okay okay then Mr Phil..you are forgiven! biglaugh wink

I don`t have it anymore myself because I sold
my Oddity some time ago.

Regarding the lead sound. My opinion is that
the FX (overdrive/distortion/flanger) doesn`t
give that "Oh My God Big Difference" - it adds
some drive, bite and colour to the sound.
And I don`t think that you absolutely have to use the flanger.
Through the years I´ve tried to program that
lead sound on several hardware synths I had
- I always came close, but it was never there 100%. When I finally made it on the Oddity, the result was really close. I guess what I´m trying to say is, that if you want that 100% authentic
lead sound then your best bet actually is the
Oddity (it`s pretty much better than the Prodyssey if you ask me).....or get an ARP.
I know that Andy (MosLotion) who is THE Arp
Expert here, and one of the best in the world,
got a lot of praise for the Alesis Micron/Ion
when talking about the leadsound emulation.
I´ve never tried it myself.

Spent a while trying to get this with my Odyssey and a Line 6 Pod last night. Came away frustrated.

Pah. Will try again today but, in the mean time, any patch sheets would be appreciated.

Thanks
David

Yes, it really is stunning! The ambience effect plays a very important role creating this sound.

I have a Novation Ultranova and it has an OSCar patch in preset bank A (it's number eighty something). It sounds reasonable out of the box but is NOT the definitive Currie sound. Has anybody else got an Ultranova? If so, have you played around with this patch at all?

There's a patch I use on the ImpOSCar, which is also on ImpOSCar 2 called "Perrierlead" quite Billy in a "Loves Great Adventure" way wink and also on my ImpOSCar 2 there is a patch called "BillyLeadArpeggiator".
Hope this helps,
Rob.

Cheers, Rob...I'll check it out. On the Ultranova, there's a bank of 8 user-assignable knobs that are touch sensitive. I can assign the oscillators to them and "throw them out" simply by touching them. It's sounds reasonable (you know, the Billy overdrive sound) BUT the basic OSCar patch needs tweaking I think. If we can arrange a phone call, I'll give you a little listen over the phone.

Phil.

After considering it for some time (and the fact that the sliders are knackered!), I've installed the CMS Lumina Slider upgrade to my Odyssey.

The difference is amazing, and because the sliders are far more accurate, I'm now able to recreate patches more than once - it was always hit and miss before. Gone are the days of scratchy audio, and seriously bad manual filter sweeps. The new sliders have a great action, firm to the touch but not stiff.

Here's to another 30 years : )

I wish there were non-illuminated high quality sliders available. I'm thinking about desoldering all of them and clean and lube them but there are already a couple of them replaced with those chinese replicas which are quite horrible frown

By the way, can anyone send me the patch sheet too please? There's one on Yahoo groups but that one doesn't seem to make sense.

Oh, ha ha ha smile I guess you misunderstood. I'm not looking for a blank patch sheet but one with the settings for Billy's lead sound.
