Hi everyone... is there someone out there who can shed some lights on the so-called "Metamatic Demos" bootleg?
My CDR copy has 19 tracks, but among them are included tracks which I guess cannot be defined as "demos from the Metamatic sessions", such as the instrumental Quiet Men #3, which appeared on the Meridians 2 cassette tape. Also, other tracks seem to be just poor quality recordings on tape of songs released on singles (such as "Burning Car", "Mr. No", "Glimmer"). They're the original versions, just recorded by someone on tape in a lo-fi way.
I know that copies with a shorter tracklisting, probably featuring just the proper "demos", exist. Some songs have mysterious titles, such as "Jamie's Theme"...does anybody know if among these tracks are those planned for inclusion in the "Identification Of A Woman" soundtrack and shelved by the movie director?
Does anybody have an "official tracklisting"?
Thanks for any help!!!

I'm fairly sure that non of these tracks were originally planned for the "Identification of a Woman" soundtrack. It's also incorrect to refer to them as "Metamatic Demos" as I think they were put together for a short film entitled "The Bed" - this would explain some of the more bizarre track titles like "Bed Flight". As far as I am aware the film was never released - so I can't confirm how much (or little) of John's music was going to have been used. Rob

RobHi again Rob ! Don't forget that you also have my version of the Metamatic Sessions. To complicate matters mine has 20 tracks in total. Well, 10 unknown instrumentals (2 of them could be The Quiet Man tracks - never heard them before!) All at the Forum shall await the unveiling of the track listing. Brace yourself !!!! Rob, I see that you are at The Forum. Was this track listing correct for the Metamatic Sessions: 1) The Quiet Man 3 (6.34) 2) The Quiet Man 4 (3.48) 3) Musique D'Amueblement 1(0.31) 4) A New Kind of Man (single version) (3.51) 5) A New Kind of Man (slow version) (3.57) 6) He's a Liquid (b side) (3.09) 7) He's a Liquid (instrumental) (2.02) 8) Piano Piece (2.27) 9) Mr No (b side) (3.15) 10) Drums (0.34) 11) Echo Piece (2.50) 12) Burning Car (a side) (3.12) 13) Jamie's Theme (1.06) 14) 20th Century (b side) (2.46) 15) Glimmer (b side) (3.39) 16) Film 1 (b side) (3.39) 17) Touch and Go (strings) (2.00) 18 Touch (excerpt) (1.32) 19) Bed Flight (0.41) 20) Bed Cellar (4.37) Tracks 7), 8), 10), 11), 13), 17), 18), 19), 20) I believe belong to 'The Bed' Soundtrack (a short film). Mind you I haven't heard the '79 version of Like a Miracle but it must be an epic! Boy I do love The Quiet Man 3 instrumental and Piano Piece, a simple but melancholy beautiful instrumental. Don't we all love the art of Metamatica...John give us the fans a box set called "A New Kind of Man"...Your triumphant return to the music world! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="cool.gif" /> Chris C

Hi Chris, I checked my copy of the so-called "Metamatic Demos" or "Metamatic Sessions". I guess that many versions exist. They differ under two respects, hence the different tracklistings: 1) some have just the "The Bed" stuff, some have also the rare official tracks included; so, sometimes you could find a long tracklisting and sometimes a very short one; your copy, as mine, features a long tracklisting; 2) two tracks are just drum machine loops, as in the case of your copy (track 10 and track 19, I guess). But some copies, like mine, have the drum machine loops united in just one track, and that's why my tracklisting differs from yours. Anyway, your tracklisting shows "Jamie's Theme" and "Bed Cellar" as correct titles, and not "James' Theme" and "Red Collar"...the mystery continues...
