I've just watched the documentary tonight "Band Aid: The Song that Rocked the World" (UK) and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, what I really wanted to say was how good a presenter Midge was He looked a natural to me. I know I'm positively disposed towards him so I asked my wife (who can't bear Ultravox) about it and she thought he was great too! Well done that man. Maybe a new career beckons?

excellent programme last night. i was very moved & full of the same emotions that caught my attention 20 yrs ago. it really seems like yesturday. bobs comments about 'the song' were very true. the 'song' has become such apart of the xmas celebration.i agree, it is 'hymn like' and has an uplifting, yet thought provocing side to it. i beleive, emotionally, you can take from the song what you wish. it certainly changed the attitude of music. and part of my life. lets continue...

It was a very moving programme in places. I was also quite moved when Midge described how it had changed.... Bob's life forever...
Strange that Midge is still unsure whether it's a good song or not. Maybe it's hard to disentangle it from its context now but I think it's a great song.

me too Cerise we could not watch this for sadly obvious reasons - no UK TV is broadcast but via satellite, and no TV programs are printed in local press

Originally posted by Cerise: OK, I've finally managed to get around to making a DVD! The Band Aid '20 years on' documentary is on it, I'm just seeing if the original 1984 documentary plus Live Aid Remembered will fit (it should). Anyone who still needs a copy, if you wouldn't mind donating £4 to EV to cover disc and postage costs (just use the PayPal donate button on the home page), I'll send a copy straight out. Bear in mind the format will be PAL, so if you're outside of Europe, make sure your player is multi-region. Cerise, as Russia is still no donation-friendly country where all cash transfers below $100 are charged 15-20 bucks, I am ready to donate DVD blanks for this sum, which will be enough to distribute the film to all thirsty and hungry. will that kind of charity work ??? we will need at least 4 copies -this is the people I know here - right, Sylvia My Dear ??

Drop me a note for full details thanks

I always thought it was a rotten song: a dirge with a beatlesy xmassy bit stuck on the end. Nowadays I quite like it! And after watching the story of it, I like it even more. The very beginning seemed to be: Bob sees news on telly - phones wife - Midge is in room - Bob speaks to Midge - Midge says yes. That's set me wondering - who else might have ended up getting roped in as the composer/producer if Ultravox hadn't been on The Tube that week??? Adrian
