It's funny that nobody has asked further about the selling strategies regarding the Nation 12 CD.

Rob is what I'm reading on ebay true ? Electrofear's limited to 500 copies? I bought my copy 2 days into the auction and there might have been 188 left in stock. I assume that Fulfill Records were selling 200 or 250 of these on ebay.

Rob is this a one off or it's something that John may pursue with his unreleased stuff from his back catalogue ?

Cheers

Chris, not trying to be rude but it's only been six days. You weren't seriously expecting it to be sold out already, were you?

And do you seriously think that there are 500 John Foxx fans in here?

The wait is over, it's just arrived. As you might expect I went straight to tracks we have heard on rencent releases.

"Concrete, Invisible, Bulletproof" - I'm struggling to find the difference although those of you with a more technical appreciation of the instruments used my well notice straight away.

Invisible Women - Totally different version with very little similarity to the "Underpass" clone that appeared later.

Invisible Women (Electronic Version) - Shorter version of above with the piano removed; reminds me of Extreme Ways (Bourne Identity)by Moby. Those of you who know the track may make the connection but it fairly minor.

Electrofear (Alternative Version) - This appears to the Beast Mix, so I'm not sure why it was not listed as such.

Generally, I think those of you that are slightly dubious because of the Drum and Bass feel of Remember and Electrofear need not fear. This work fits nicely with Johns later work. My favorites are the early version of Cities of Light which has a much lighter feel (if limited) feel to the vocals, Florian and the Sub Dub version of Remeber which I have always loved.

Hi
Got mine today also. Like cerise I'm listening now.
I agree with all Paul's comments about Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisable and Invisible Women.
The sound is as much as I expected having heard Nation 12 stuff before but it's nice to have on CD.
Again I'd like to thank Simon Blackmore, the fan who made this CD available.

Ignore my earlier coments about C,B,I. I was playing the wrong track on my sort mode in iTunes. C,B,I and Remember are swaped over on the track listing so C,B,I, is track 11 and Rememeber is track 12.

In that case C.B.I is radically different.

It helps if when comparing tracks you actually play the two tracks and not the same track twice! That will teach me to compare the track on iTunes instead of playing the CDs themselves.

There's me thinking I've got a mispressed CD as I can't find the track "Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisible" that is apparently identical to the Shifting City version. Straight on the blower to my "co-credit" and eventually establish that tracks 11 & 12 have been transposed on the sleeve... and then he beats me to the posting!

Only Rob could answer this.

This release is definitely limited to 500 copies only.

Fulfill Records are selling on ebay 199 (John must have kept copy 1).163 copies now left with a few hours to go! confused2

Sister Ray (yes John's preferred record store!)are selling on ebay 50). 48 copies left with 8 days left to go.

So our question, who's going to sell the remaining 250?

Amazon.co.uk have it advertised as:

This item will be released on November 21, 2005. You may order it now and we will dispatch it to you when we receive it from our supplier.

Price £9.99

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BW9US0/qid%3D1131273570/202-9608257-89750 51

Although slightly cheaper than those sold on ebay this may not be the safest way in securing a copy. My advice is, get it first from ebay and avoid any disappointments. wink

Fascinating stuff!!!

Chris C wink
PS I personally wouldn't mind if John were to sell Urban Motets, Musique Electron, The Quiet Man (+ book), Metamatica, Metatronic and Metadelic in this way. laugh

Also my daughter likes the track "Your kisses burn" she reckons it has a nice dance beat to it. wink

No it isn't... Like most releases these days, a number (500) has been initially pressed - but extra copies WILL be produced should there be sufficient demand.

Interesting strategy. I wonder if the second edition were to vary (slightly) in artwork. That's what happened to OneTwo's (Claudia Brucken + Paul Humphreys)Item ep. I bought the second edition and is of a different colour etc to the first. We are talking about collectors here. wink

Peter Is your copy numbered something like 3 out of 500 ? Look closely around the artwork.

Cheers!

Got my copy this morning, even though my office is around the corner from Sister Ray I somehow panicked that they were going to be sold out. Now I see that it isn't limited. Oh well, nice to get to listen to it sooner rather than later.

I have listened to it a couple of times and I think 'She was' and 'Leaving' are very, very interesting, As the sleeve mentions they are 'psychedelic' in flavour, very close to some of the music that John was working on and surfaced to a certain extent in the Golden Section and (probably) the lost psychedelic album that he reputedly binned (no, not the other lost album, but the other other lost john foxx album). In contrast... hmmm...some of the other stuff sounds a bit naff now, in particular 'listen to the drummer', 'remember' and 'electrofear (which I was not a fan of when I it came out and relistening has confirmed that it is one of the least likeable things John has done for me). However I will look at in the context of the time and the musical movements that were going on...and skip over them when I listen to my copy of the CD.

Very interesting to hear the versions of 'cities of light' and 'invisible women'. Both are different and feel somehow like early interesting sketches for the later versions, even though as many people say Invisible women turned into Underpass 2.0.

The sound quality isn't quite as bad as I expected. Its definitely not CD quality with a lack of bass and mid definition but as a transfer from cassette tape its rather good.

So definitely worth purchasing, not just to complete the collection but to hear these good previously unreleased tracks by John.

I had a look around my copy couldn't find any signs of 'limited edition'on the artwork. Anyhow it's such a great feeling to have the copy so quickly after release and it is definitely a great album.

I can't wait too long!!!

I didn't have to. It was there waiting for me when I came back from the office yesterday evening. :p

I managed to give it one listen and absorb as much of the album as possible. It's such a delight to hear the instrumental opener Nation 12. The second track just blew me away and is indeed a hidden gem that had been eluding us all these years. She Was is truly one of John's best. My 2 year old son even bopped to it! Through my Sleeping is represented here as Leaving and both Psychedelic tracks work brilliantly. Florian, Your Kisses Burn ...they are all enjoyable!

The whole album flows except for one track Listen to the Drummer which is very 'unfoxx' but naturally included for completion's sake. Electrofear and Remember do fit in nicely, of course. John has also been very kind in including all these bonuses. laugh

Worth the wait. A must in John's collection and in any collection of electronic music.

A VERY BIG "THANK YOU" TO MR. SIMON BLACKMORE!!!!!

Got my copy yesterday and listened to it twice until yet. There are some tracks which found the way in my ear very fast. She Was, Shadow Dancing, Leaving (Trough my sleeping), Cities of light, Remember...

Surely ' cause of some tracks it is not a CD for everyone but a great present for John's fan base. I'm glad to own this copy , the part between "In Mysterious ways" and "Shifting City".

I think tracks like Remember are very good to include in a set list for the next gig from John & Louis. wink

Great stuff!! excited

I first heard of Nation 12 at a record fair in Camden Town around 1992. The dealer I approached for Ultravox items told me all about the project then gave me the bad news that he didn't have anything by them! A few years later I eventually acquired the 12" singles, Gods Theme, Speedball and became aware of ULTRA rare CD singles from Germany...which I have yet to possess as someone keeps beating me to their ownership (you know who you are "Mr I-Pod" wink )

I digress.

My point being... For 13 years I was totally unaware of just how great John's involvement was in this project but now I know. Since receiving the CD, I have listened each morning on my commute to London and each morning I am totally immersed in new tracks and those which seem more familiar.

The early version of Through My Sleeping is just too short and as for the ratchet sound on She Was... Didn't I first hear that on Film 1 in 1980?

More please excited

Did anyone else in North America order this? Did you get it yet? Just wondering how much longer I have to wait. CDs from the UK (based on multiple orders from enoshop and posteverything) can take less than a week but average around ten days, and it's been almost two weeks now.

I just got the new Kate Bush album yesterday after waiting twelve years. You'd think I'd've learned a little patience by now, but I guess I'm spoiled by all the CDs we've had from JF in the last few years.

Hi Lonesome Rider!

The first batch is restricted to 500 copies. Depending on demand there'll be another batch released. Whether this happens I don't know yet. For the moment it's only being sold on-line .

Amazon have it advertised if you follow my link earlier in this thread. However, this release is exclusive to Fullfill Records and Sister Ray Records.

To be on the safe side I'd buy it now from ebay.co.uk either from Fullfill or from Sister Ray. They are selling at £11.99. Select John Foxx and presto.

At this very moment:

Sister Ray have 39 copies left with 3 days to go.
Fullfill have 17 copies left with 5 days and 20 hours to go.

I don't think these are the only copies left from the first batch. They are selling them progressively in smaller batches.

Enjoy your purchase. I have! laugh

I got mine from SisterRay - oredered it late on a Friday evening, it arrived the next Tuesday.
£11.99 + £1.00 postage - I think Fulfill charge £2.00 postage.

Only had chance to play it once so far, just a bit of a mystery why it's took so long to come out, there's some classic John Foxx tunes on there.
All I'd got before this was the 12" of Remember a few months before off E-Bay.
I also missed out on the German CD Single on there, but at least I know it exists now, so one day maybe????

I take it "Florian" is a reference to Florian Schneider????

It's arrived!!

I bought it from Sister Ray via e-bay... though you can buy direct from their site for the same price.

I'm having my first preview right now as I type - and it sounds really interesting. Very computer gamey in places.

I'm looking forward to having a proper listen... after that I can post comprehensive comments!!

excited
I got my Nation 12 CD this week. I am listening and enjoying it. As someone said its a must have addition to the JF catalogue.
Thanks for the comments that were encouraging enough for me to buy it.

Hello everybody
James Hyman played 'Listen to the Drummer'on the Rinse on XFM. I know this because I was there!

Does Billy's 'French Viola' sound like Lil' Louis 'French Kiss'or is it just me?
Both cool dance tracks but Billy's got a certain edge to his track.

AFAIUI, John recorded several tracks for the follow-up to TGS which were then either ditched or re-recorded for IMW. This belief is based on what I remember reading in the final Service magazine. It seems that what began as quite a loud project (This Side of Paradise/Hiding in Plain Sight are two tracks that did make it onto vinyl) became quite a quiet one, suggesting that JF underwent a significant musical conversion between 83 and 85. (cf. "Assembly" sleevenotes)

Hello,

Ive been lurking on here for a while and have been reading all the threads with great interest.

I got this album last week in sister ray.....

WHAT AN ALBUM!!! MR FOXX (and Friends) does it again!!

Metamatic will always be my favourite JF album and probably top album of all time in any genre, but Electrofear is a quality album, i especially like the more breakbeat orientated tunes, though perhaps that is more the other artists influence?

was also great to hear Into the wonderful, the last time i heard this was on the Amiga game Gods!!

I salute the genius that is John Foxx!!!

The album is available for download on iTunes, priced £7.99 if you're that way inclined

try searching for "John Foxx" don't forget to use the quote marks - else of course you'll get all the "John" and all the "Foxx" results

well, after i've tried all possible (or even impossible!) combinations like "john foxx electrofear", "john foxx nation 12", "nation 12 electrofear" and of course also "john foxx" alone, i still have "no match found" at all! banghead
what can i do now?
i'm a newbie to this itunes system and have never used it before, just for this one reason!
any help, please!?

Sorry, but it works for me every time.

Just typed "John Foxx" into the "Search Music Store" box. Returns Cathedral Oceans Volume 3, Crash and Burn, Electrofear and the Dislocated EP.

Don't know what else to suggest frown
