What would be your 'ultimate' setlist for a full-on John Foxx gig? Let's say 25 songs including encore!

I guess mine would be something like this...

1. Mr No
2. No-One Driving
3. Systems Of Romance
4. Ghosts On Water
5. Broken Furniture
6. Metal Beat
7. The Noise
8. Night Life
9. 030
10. This City
11. Drive
12. Dust And Light
13. Plaza
14. Underpass
15. When It Rains
16. Europe After The Rain
17. Automobile
18. The Falling Room
19. The Quiet Men
20. An Ocean We Can Breathe
21. The Garden

Encore:
22.Slow Motion
23. Through My Sleeping
24. She Robot
25. Shifting City

I'll go with you on most of those choices Alex, the only change would be to put Slow Motion as the opening song and promote Systems to the Encore. That will always be, for me at least, John at his best. Just play it loud!!!!

I'd keep it short and sweet. A sort of Radio sessions to promote his recent electronic stuff:

1)Florian
2)She Was
3)She Robot (Crash and Burn version)
4)3am on Spectre Canal (John Foxx remix version)
5)Dislocated
6)Oceanic

A delight!

Hmmm I'm sure he'd be playing Burning Car for at LEAST the first 10 minutes....

Of course not!! Well, maybe not for a FoxxGig... hell, I'd be grateful for a 10 minute show!

Nice one - great thread Alex.
You've got a few Pleasures of Electricity in there too, which I'd also love to see. Shame this album was never promoted live.
I'd have to agree with Flip that Burning Car should be in there, and maybe replacing a couple of others - maybe thus

Mr No/Glimmer
No-One Driving
Burning Car
Your Dress
Broken Furniture
Metal Beat
The Noise
Underwater Dream Sex
An Ocean We Can Breathe
This City
Drive
Plaza
Fog Structures
Camera
Automobile
The Quiet Men
The Man Who Dies Every Day - I really want a Foxx version of this. A surprise that would bring the house down!!
Shifting City - love the endless coda on this. It could go on for ever

Reprise:
Underpass
Stairway/City of light
(a thumping Mysterious Ways rock-out!)
Ray 1/Ray 2

Encore:
The Garden

Hurrah!

Hi
I love the set lists Alex and Martin. I'd certainly love to hear TMWDED included. This would make me very happy excited
I also think This Jungle would be a great song to do live.

Shame concerts are so restricted to time I could stay at a concert all night but that's just me. wink

I hope we get a concert next year.

Regards
Peter

Interesting topic.

I've noticed that most of the setlists include both purely electronic tracks and some of his 'full band'/rock tracks.

John's concerts have always consisted of one style or the other. His '83 tour consisted of tracks from Systems Of Romance, The Garden and The Golden Section only, ignoring Metamatic totally. His later tours have used synths and drum machines only. Therefore any 'rock' tracks (eg Endlessly) have had to be reworked for synths.

Will John ever do another tour which utilises guitars, bass guitars and drums ? I think it would be interesting to see again but unlikely. So it's fun to imagine these great setlists being performed live but such concerts may never happen. Andy

I was imagining an electronic band - John, Louis and maybe... somebody else(!), but with new arrangements for the older 'full band' songs.

I'd like to hear a new version of Systems...

I think it is realistic to make a set of 15 or 16 songs for a gig. So here is what I want to hear in my dream list ( only songs John didn't played on his last shows):

A funny Thing
Nightlife ( played at Mean Fiddler but great dance track! - again please!!!)
Sidewalking ( played in Bielefeld but want to hear it again! )
Underwater Dreamsex
A Blurred Girl
Mr. No
She Was
Shadow Dancing
Slow Motion
The Man who dies every Day
Artificial Life
Slipaway
Ray1/Ray2
Smoke
Uptown/Downtown
Quiet City

I could be more songs include, but... laugh

And I would be going dizzy if John could make a decision for a

CATHEDRAL OCEANS CONCERT!!! excited

I only heard the two tracks in Brighton live but after these my hair stood up on my neck!

How would a full show with this music going on??

This would be wonderful, I'm sure!!! smile
