Hi all,
I investigated a bit about Karborn, the digital artist John collaborated with in making the new http://www.officialcathedraloceans.com website.
He seems to be very connected with John: his real name is John Leigh, he's of English/Belgian nationality and he's only 20 years old.
He's also somehow obsessed with car accidents: he chose his "nom de plume" after being nearly killed in a car accident when he was sixteen.

Wild thought: could he be John's son?

I don't know, but I know for sure that I will ask Santa for this snowboard (designed by John Leigh):

Ciao,
Luca

Hi Luca,
Interesting stuff.
You have certainly been doing a bit of investigation.

Have you been snowboarding before?

Isn't John Foxx'es real name Dennis Leigh or something? Looks like they could be related...

Yes, that's what tickled my curiosity at first... <img border="0" alt="[Suave]" title="" src="graemlins/suave.gif" />
Apparently their collaboration didn't start with the CO website (witness the familiar statue on the snowboard I posted above).
Meriseth told me he read somewhere that John had a son born in 1985 - this would cast a whole new light on the lyrics to "Enter the angel", isn't it?

Someone changing, changing everything....
When enter the angel, through some summer door...
Then I was bathing in the beauty of a face....
Then I was walking out across the autumn days, you were turning, I said 'What's your name?'

Would someone in the know shed some light on this?

Ciao,
Luca

The timing would be about right, I think, wouldn't it? He did sort of disappear sometime after the In Mysterious Ways album for a good decade or so. Perfect time to stay low-key and raise a family. But would anyone really know if this was the case?

Luca,

John's life is turning into a movie. The Quiet Man.

The above would explain the mood of the album In Mysterious Ways. He's very emotional here and not really himself. He's very happy and in seventh heaven like every man feels when he fathers a child. But where is he or she?

I wonder when John publishes his autobiography, let alone The Quiet Man.

Chris C smile
PS It's a fact that John had a Belgian girlfriend at one point in the early eighties....

Sod it.

I've read further and examined the artwork on associated links.

If he's not JF's immediate offspring. he's either massively influenced by John...or is John assuming a different guise! Again.

But the 'son' option seems so much more the likely.

IMHO

Wow.

I have to agree. About the artwork on the snowboard, though, I thought that was John's...er...Dennis'? As for the rest of the artwork I saw, I do suspect a strong influence by Mr. Foxx. It's certainly very good!

Is anyone besides me seriously considering contacting this guy (John Leigh, I mean) to ask the burning question? laugh (I don't think I could do it, really...)

Fathers hold my hand and lead me through the fields of life, teaching to understand and to know what is to happen. So who's going to ask John about this on Monday then? wink

Seeing those computer art magazines about John Leigh brought something back to me. I remember getting a copy of 'Creative Review' magazine back in the late '80s bacause of a big article on a certain Dennis Leigh. Now I'm just wondering where it is, I know I would never get rid of this. Must go search for it .....

I can see a bit of a resemblance there, too. Another thing I notice about people is their writing style. If you look at the top of the page, it has what I guess is his signature. His writing resembles Dennis' a bit. Not that one's writing often resembles either of their parents (mine doesn't), but it could be another clue as well.

I think we could be on to something! And yes...someone should ask John (i.e. Dennis) about this on Monday. Go on, do it! wink

Sons so dedicated to their Father's style? Doesn't sound like any family I know! How about a nephew - there's the chance of a family resemblance, and a greater likelihood of going along similar tracks to "Uncle Den" - leastwise, I feel I'm more likely to follow in an Uncle's footsteps than my Father's, even if I do have my Father's behavioural traits!

Poor John, having his "family" probed thus! Actually, there's always Somerset House (or whatever might be the Belgian equivalent) if we really wanted to know . . . but doesn't having the air of "I wonder" mystery make it all rather nicer than knowing?

But if your dad was Dennis Leigh (John Foxx), or someone just as talented, wouldn't you want to follow in his footsteps? Idolise him? Or would you be like any typical kid and scoff at his work as being "uncool?" I'd do the former, but perhaps I'm just biased. laugh

The reason John was in belguim was because two
gigs were programmed . One at the Eurorock Festival and the next night at the PC69 in Bielefeld.

Johns' appearences were organised by Frank Drake and had nothing to do with any of Johns' previous lifes.

The cancellation of the Belgium gig was due to the fact that the organisers had the audacity to advertise it as an Ultravox gig which it clearly wasn't .

well ... i think that it's okay to maybe investigate some further , if private life & musical things mix like it's the case with the new "official cathedral oceans" website then ... if we're all not completely mistaken & there really is absolutely NO familiar connection between john leigh & dennis leigh !!! wink

p. s. : i'm NOT interested in other personal facts about the leigh's family life , like to whom he once was or still is married etc. , as this hasn't anythin' to do with the work of dennis leigh !!!

I agree with Peter and Andreas.

I, too, am more interested in John (Foxx)'s music than his personal life. However, since this subject has been brought up, it has piqued my interest, as well as the interest of several others...or so it appears. It doesn't matter who John Leigh is (besides an artist), or whether there is any relation to Dennis (John Foxx) Leigh. However, it might be interesting to find out if it's true or not! smile I just wouldn't, in all fairness and seriousness, bother either of the two people involved with it.

Thanks for the email. Im sorry, but I don't think I am supposed to be saying anything at the moment.
Other than the website ( www.officialcathedraloceans.com ) will be ready in a week or two, and keep changing, evolving and growing from then on, becoming john foxx's personal creative space online.

I know that doesn't answer the questions you want to know, but there we go. smile

Cheers,
-John

Lately this line appeared in his blog:
"I have been busy working on my projects for arkitip, solio and john foxx. All three should be out this month or next..."

Ciao,
