"Looped Los Angeles" is now available as a download on John's MySpace as well as a new blog explaining what it's about.

Hmmmmm... I just did a Google for 'Arthur J. Barratt'... nothing. Nor anything in Wikipedia either. Are we being told Tiny White Lies????

Is Arthur J. Barratt the American cousin of the Quiet Man? frown

Hmm, interesting. I searched too out of curiosity and found nothing. I think we can safely assume he's one of John's ficticious characters!

Apologies if I spelt ficticious incorrectly.

I'm feeling provocative.

If someone played you this piece of music "Looped Los Angeles" without saying it was by John Foxx - would you buy it? eek

Sounds like something I'd hear on an mp3 hosting site by an unknown. Nice, not remarkable, in 1 ear...and off out again. Hardly a work of God-like genius or anything...

Hi all. Nice to see some objectivity here. The tune is OK but nothing more. I will be waiting to hear online audio clips before I buy this one.

Hmmmm. Probably not. I understand the Kraftwerk comparisons but that doesn't help me as I don't like Kraftwerk and I don't like JF when he tries to imitate them. For me, nearly all of TPOE is a 'no-listen area'.

I will buy the album of course.

Hmm, interesting! Well I like that sort of stuff, but if I heard the track without knowing it was John, I would certainly be interested ini hearing it through, but not necessarily buying it.

Of course knowing it is John makes it completely different. I certainly doubt this track will reflect the style of the whole album.

A lot of John's more recent work is like Kraftwerk with emotion and soul. And I like it a lot, but I don;t compare it to Kraftwerk - I just hear a positive innfluence.

I thought I would look at the various comments before I listened to the track, as I have in the past been disappointed by some 'experimental' tracks. I listened to it with your comments in mind, Birdsong, and my instant thoughts were it sounded like a cross between an electronic Durutti Column and Jean Michel Jarre!
IMHO it gets the thumbs up, and like the inventive backstory. So, if the rest of TCM lives up to this, I'll be impressed.
Cheers

TCM is certainly going to be a different kind of album from John.
Can't wait!!

Nice track but nothing special--an instrumental B-side!!! Europe Endless for definite and very analogue sounding, very 1975.

Sorry, but I don't think it's even all that retro...

TPOE was John's homage to TransEurope Express IMHO, this is more incidental music than anything else...
Haven't listened now for a couple of days - there's a lack of inspiraton about it and I'm not drawn in. I've been expecting more of an Eno-esque slant for some reason. This track seems to be neither one thing or the other.
I do hope the album doesn't suffer the same fate

I will buy the album of course wink and I'm mindful of the phrase
keep your words sweet, for you may have to eat them .

I have my spoon ready :p

Just rereading this thread and thinking about Martin's question. Truth is that I'll buy anything that JF releases and I admire those of you who retain a modicum of objectivity! Okay, I agree that some albums/tracks are better than others (and there have been some very ropey lyrics along the way), but I've "been with" John for too long now to forsake him.

Lol.
Thanks, but don't get me wrong.

I'm with you and have been with John forever.
Of course I'll buy the album, even if I 'm not impressed with this track.
wink :p

Looped Los Angelese has grown on me, though it's not one of my favourites on the album. However it doesn't represent the overall style.
