I may be mis-speaking but why does Midge's voice have so much treatment on it on all of the songs? You know, I heard him over Christmas on some talking and singing programme for young people who stay up late, broadcast on the television device, and he was singing and playing without plugs and his voice was still so good and so distinctive and so very strong; so, why the need for so much augmentation here when it really isn't needed?
I believe it was Ms. Toyah who sang, "Be proud, be loud, be heard" so, go on Midge: go bareback for a few songs and let that voice do the talking!
You may now throw your stones. Sedimentary only, mind, nothing igneous, they're too brutal. Just found this: Return To Eden features classic Ultravox hits such as The Thin Wall, All Stood Still, The Voice, Lament and, of course, Vienna. Midge said: "There are no overdubs or fancy studio techniques. It's so easy to tweak the vocals or re-record dodgy guitar parts - you can fix anything on computer. http://blogs.dailyrecord.co.uk/billysloan/2010/03/midge-goes-gaga-over-ladys-gig.html

Davox. I think the issue Osty may have is with the obvious treatment of Midge's voice on the samples we've heard. Nothing wrong with that of course - if it was treated on the night to mix into the surrounding aural experience of the band, then it's been done for artistic reasons which is understandable. Osty's not neccesarily referring to it being anything to do with overdubs, which Midge is quite correct in saying can be done (and often is) with a computer afterwards. The issues are separate I think.
Regards,
Paul

I didn't think the acoustics were that good at that venue,so i'm not surprised that sonically the sound would need to be adjusted.

I treated myself to this! I might get the print framed and put up on my wall. That's if I can find a space as my walls are covered in shelves and/ or pictures already... I wonder if I will get to see myself on the DVD? I had the mad 80's German guy with big hair almost in front of me (he was front row) so at least I know where to look!

Surely the volumes this disc will shift could have warranted multi-format issues. I'd certainly pay a premium for a blu-ray version. I believe that NTSC is still leagues ahead of PAL, so a good decision I'd say? Blu Ray? Hmmm before long DVD formats will actually be irrelevant as we will all download what we want when we want. No format to worry about, everything in HD. News reports that Toshiba lost the format race, but I believe that they may have won as they won't need to invest millions to maintain something that is going to be out of date before you can ..............

And so you should Paul et al - shame about the slower Bristol post Anyway, just had two "it's on it's way"s from HMV this afternoon, so if true to form (as with the Duran Duran sets), finger's crossed that it could be Saturday for both versions for me, and then the Townsend copy and print can show up whenever it likes Ashes to Ashes, more Lost, (potentially) the Roundhouse discs, Doctor Who, another Grand Prix and then the next Flashforward on Monday... and a date buried in there too, somewhere. That's my Easter sorted Rob

Brian - Rob filmed during the afternoon. Midge gave Rob his camera and asked him to capture some shots of fans talking about the band and their reaction to the tour. Caz - the bit where Chris chats about his mobile phone is on there, but filmed from the side by Midge whilst Chris talks to Lee Curran. You've seen it in one of the clips somewhere (can't remember where this one appeared), but from Lee's POV before. I've watched part of the show and the documentary. There are a few errors in song names, omission of crew credits (and credit for Rob's Voxpops / shot of walking up to the Odeon), but apart from that it sounds FANTASTIC and it's really fun to watch and relive that night. Weird to see yourself in the crowd! I can see Rob snapping away there near the beginning, too. If you were near the front of the queue going in (Daz M!), or near the front of the stage, watch it carefully - quite a few faces there that you might recognise! And of course in the Voxpops in the documentary (off the top of my head - Chris L, Lava, Dave Conn, everyone from The Ultravox Station in Japan, Rodney, Bill and Tina, Kari forgetting song names!!). There were more I think, I'll check through again tomorrow.
