On the Midge forum I was told the audio and video are finished and that the 5:1 mix is being done as we speak. It is now just a case of finding a label to release it laugh

It was filmed in HD so here's hoping for a Blu Ray release ! excited

Perhaps - if Uvox havn't secured a label to release the concert - the guys should self release: a downloadable DMR version and a physical DVD-R (or small run press).
This way 100% of the profit returns to the band to help fund future projects...

Having seen them myself in Sheffield (what a lucky break that was), I can only hope that the eventual release will be full concert length, i.e. about 105mins. I'd be happy to see any concert DVD release, but also really annoyed if they reduced it to say an hour.
Can anyone here say how long the disk is likely to be?

If it isn't the whole gig I for one will be sorely disappointed !

I can´t believe that the DVD doesn´t consist the complete gig - if not it would be more than disappointing.

In addition I expect also lots of Bonus material -interviews, rehearsals etc.

OMD, Gary Numan, Anne Clark, Erasure also released complete gigs plus bonus material...

PS:
By the way:
Where are the remaining songs of the Monument gig???????

I never understood why only some songs were released - does anybody have an answer to this??

Hoping that the dvd is in NTSC also.
Yes my computer plays all formats but I would really prefer to see the concert on my flat screen television. No matter what the quality of the computer display it just isnt the same thing.

It is disappointing but when you read the Quartet/Monument thread, you will hopefully understand the reason. Also the other artists you listed have not released all thier concerts complete either for usually the very same reasons as Ultravox. Some shows are not released at all, so no-one even knows their incomplete.

I went and read that thread mentioned, and can understand the reasons mentioned in it for not releasing all material if the artiste(s) don't believe the quality is sufficient. That was probably true 25 years ago, maybe even 10-15 years ago, but there is no excuse for it nowadays. We have miniature camcorders that are near DVD quality, phones etc, and some of the youtube footage I've seen (apart from being shaky) is good quality. I for example have a mini-DV camcorder good enough for near broadcast and/or commercial DVD quality.

I go back to my original point, in light of today's technology, and an earlier comment that it had been filmed in HD. There should be no excuse for not releasing a full length concert disk, DVD or BLU-Ray. banghead

Right i think theres some crossed wires here. When Paul directed you to the 'Qaurtet/Monument' thread, that was for those issues alone. The 'Roundhouse' was filmed fully and will be released soon, as for 'Monument' dvd, that was released with just a selection of tracks. Same with their related audio tracks. And thats the way its likely to stay.

I didn't go to the Roundhouse gig so I'm not sure if the band made any howlers or not? But if they did, then rest assured that particular track will not be on the DVD.

The cost of overdubbing and remixing it will probably blow the idea of including the track out of the water. I wouldn't imagine Ultravox have a huge budget for this release. Being the perfectionists they are I doubt that they'd sanction a "warts n all" performance either.

But if all went well on the night then there's no real reason why all the show shouldn't be included.

Having watched all the youtube versions of the songs at the Roundhouse there does not seem to be any major problems with the songs that I could see.. all seemed to go ok. Any volume issues would be easily sorted in the mix.

For a real live DVD I would prefer not to have the audio remixed... For me it would be the most authentic to use an unedited and untouched version of the mix straight of the desk from that night... with full dynamics and no further work on... it may sound less perfect but it will be more real

I agree about any 'enhancing' remixing, but if say, Midge's guitar or vocal was too loud or quiet on a particular song turn it up or down a bit, nothing wrong with that.

About 5 years ago I saw Uriah Heep live and the show was being recorded for a full DVD performance.

The filming crew weren't completely happy with 3 of the tracks and asked the band to come back on and play them again. Which they did.

It was great for us in the crowd to have an extended performance and the DVD was released in full.

I'll just be happy to have the DVD before withdrawal sets in any more...HD will be fine as I don't have a blue ray player and wasn't sure what the difference was between that and HD but just did a search....so as far as I can see blue ray discs can store a lot more data which means potentially we could have had more stuff on the DVD...makes more sense why some of you guys were so keen on blue ray now!

I suppose the DVD will be released in due time for the Christmas time ;-)

Midge was so proud in his biography that Ultravox was the first band to put just one new song onto "The Collection" so that it would sell even better.

Hmmm, if the boys are still as clever - or maybe even more? look at the grey hairs of Chris and Billy and Midge, ähhhhm - no comment - they should do so again. Just one bloody song. What about "Alone" from Midge Ure's Move Me CD reloaded and reshaped by the band as an Ultravox song? Or whatsoever.... Just one bloody song, pleeeeease.

Hi maryann,
You could always unlock your dvd player and make it region free which will allow your player to play any dvd in any format.

I think Maryann's problem is not the region but the format. Most North American DVD players & TVs cannot handle PAL whether the DVD player is unlocked or not.

"Blue Ray"? Is that the same gentleman who used to sell risque videograms from a battered suitcase on Sclater Street market? Surely not.

As for the Roundhouse recordings, might they be available as a series of 78s also? I do so enjoy the aroma of the brown paper sleeves, it adds hugely to one's listening pleasure.

I appreciate that there is no news about the DVD yet, but I just wondered what the current state of play is? Are the band actively looking for a publisher, or is it a case of waiting for someone to contact them? I have no idea how these things work!

Sadly probably not. I've been so excited by this but its kinda slipping away now - dont think we'll see it.

Real, real shame - it's probably one of those situations - its floating around - and some have seen it - but it never actually comes out for the general masses.

There was another band that I followed that did that - theres a superb video knocking around from 2002 - a great tour - but no official release as yet!!!!! Basically its not going to happen and the stuff is securely under wraps - no boots.

Who knows - live in hope hey!! Personally I dont care if its a very rough version that comes out - surely the clear interest in the DVD would offset the costs to put something basic together? It's easy enough to knock soemthing together on yer ol apple mac these days yourself.... Mind you then people might moan that there are not enough extras or the quality is not what it shoudl be!! Perhaps its not worth the hastle given some of the responses to the remasters wink

At the moment I'm living off YouTubes - the ones from Duisburg are actually very good soundwise but visually the band are too far away on the vids that have the best sound. Still - better than nowt!!

Actually - there was a vid up on youtube by 'Warrior Vision' - its the best sound I've heard on all of the videos so far - Im sure they must have 'doctored' it in some way - it was a take of the Thin Wall at Roundhouse - does anyone know this person? Is there anymore of that quality knocking about by the Warrior Vision? The sound was excellent - very clear and the visual impact was good too - great zoom on Billys violin solo! Go check it out... laugh

No, it's most definitely the bands intention for the Roundhouse show to get an official DVD release. We were given the rough cut by Live Nation at the end of June. There would have been no point in putting on the extra London show, or spending money on getting it professionally filmed for it not to be made available to the wider public at some stage.

Given the amount of stuff of, at best, 'variable quality' that's available on sites such as YouTube, I imagine it's exactly the reason the band would want a professionally released film capturing the Return to Eden show to be out there in the world and available for people to see.

Do you think it's worth starting a petition, for a Blu Ray release?

That's actually a very healthy attitude to have. Considering WMG's little tiff with YouTube and other similar cases, there's the fact that YouTube imposes certain restrictions on uploaded videos - initially to avoid issues with allocated server space and such, but it's also an effective countermeasure to avoid "pirates" posting wholesale DVD rips online.

But bootlegs have been going on since personal tape recorders first hit the public market, and this is no different. Most of the recordings from the RTE tour are from other gigs than the Roundhouse anyway, but my point is that it's much better to use YouTube for strategic marketing, and then give the fans a treat with a proper DVD release of one of the highlights of the tour.

I'm holding out for a Christmas release, and although I'm satisfied with having the show on DVD, I hope there's a couple of goodies on the disc for the anoraks in the crowd. I'd love for the DVD to have an audio commentary track, if that's not too much to ask. Like I said, I'll be happy as long as it's released, but if I could ask for anything, it would be audio commentary.

Since it cannot be said often enough - a big Thank You to the EV crew for their unrelenting fire of enthusiasm - even when some of the fans take a turn for the nastier. Fantastic job so far, people!
