I'll be going but I think last time it was The Inn on The Green and, as ever, it was that heaving when I looked inside we gave up..... depends if people want to be next to the venue or are happy for a walk before the gig I guess....

Hi Gillian, I'm sure there's more than one pub in town for us to get to..

Anyway, I think that now makes 3 of us for now, so we're off the mark!

I'm going to Manchester, got my tickets this morning. woohoo

I'll be heading over from the North East reasonably early to get there in time for meeting up in the afternoon so I'll be up for a Voxgate.

Can anyone recommend any good hotels near Piccadilly rail station and the Apollo? I haven't checked out the geography yet so I don't know how far the venue is from the rail station.
Cheers.

It's not far from Manchester Piccadilly...I walked it in about 10 minutes for this year's gig.

I'm at Traveldoge Didsbury, it's fairly close and at 20 quid for the night for two, I'd say it was a bargain.

Jabezz Clegg? Are you totally sure this is a five min walk from the Apollo? I think not. JAbezz is oxford road student land and the apollo is the other side of the mancunian over Ardwick green. More of a 5 min taxi ride is my personal opinion - for what its worth.

turn right out of jabez to top of the road turn left and 1st right and you are on brunswick street up to the top and at the roundabout your at the appollo its nowhere near the mancunian maybe not 5 but no more than 10 mins max its a place a use everytime for the appollo
car parking around the gig is between 5 to 10 pounds wouldnt park in the streets around there cars get done over every gigs parking at the manchester academy on oxford road is 2 and about 15 min walk

Lost my bearings a little - I forget that yes heading back down Oxford rd is going back towards the Apollo side of town, in the car I tend not to do the back roads so couldnt quite visualise that route. Agreed not the best of areas!! Thankfully have not experienced a 'car done over' incident as yet though. smile

There is a premier inn which is ver comfortable and reasonable but its not right next to the train station - its about a 5 min cab ride from the station and slightly further from apollo. I cant think of any hotels near to piccadilly - Im sure there is one but can tthink of the name and its probably not particularly cheap.

I'd go for the prem.

they quote 0.2 mile from rail station and they have a rather good 29 quid deal on at the moment! smile

You thinking linear Jus, getting back on the Mancunian Way then getting off and going up Downing Street/Stockport Road towards Ardwick. If you cut through it can be done. Doubt I'll make it for the pre-drink though....

Manchester's Voxgate (pre & post-show) will be at Jabez Clegg Pub (thanks Bruce). As above, it's about 10 mins' walk from the venue. smile

What time do people normally meet up for Voxgates?

I'll be at the Manchester show and might be able to pop in beforehand.

If cars get turned over regularly, is it safe to walk to the venue? And does anyone know if there are usually taxis around at the end of Apollo shows?

There are always lots of taxis knocking about after a gig. Last time round I got one back to the Premier Inn at Deansgate Locks no problem. I fairly sure there is a taxi rank there, but it was all a bit of a blur.

Thanks Craig.

If there's a tram stop nearby that will do me but it's good to know that taxis will be there.
