Need some advice please - best to book a hotel close to the venue or nearer the city centre - i'm leaning towards the city centre if anyone is planning to have a drink afterwards but what do you think?

I've provisionally booked (and can cancel) a hotel by the venue for ease ... unless anyone has a better idea confused

Will also be alone for this one so more than happy to meet up in the afternoon, as long as the flight's on time cool

We are booked into the hotel by the venue for ease too. Chances are we'll go straight from the station to the hotel so unless some of you are booked in there too we'll probably only see folk at the gig itself.

We're booked in at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Congress Rd, Glasgow..it's on the banks of the Clyde and has direct access to the Armadillo..having booked somewhere to be convenient for the venue we are not really going to want to wander far afield before the gig. Is anyone else staying at this hotel?

I've just looked at the SECC website and seen that there is a bar and cafe open until the main act goes on stage so would that be a possibility for a pre gig meet up? Does anyone know from experience whether it would be suitable?

I'm staying with the in laws in Clydebank but we're more than happy to come into town early to meet up. Won't the SECC bar get busy methinks? I shall speak to Brother in law over the weekend to see if he has any suggestions (hubby has been away from Glasgow too long now to make an informed descision).

the only pub I know in Glasgow (or that I've been in more than once to be able to remember) is Time Square opposite the St Enoch's centre. Still looking doubtful I'll get to this gig though! sad

Has anyone got a spare ticket for this gig.... maybe someone has ducked out at the last minute? There are still tickets available on ticketmaster but they're quite far back in the rear circle. I really wanted to go to this and have only just found out that hubby has got the time off to watch the kids..... anyone got a spare, I'd really appreciate it! wink

Hi - Have you tried the SECC Website itself or called the box office? I only discovered a couple of weeks ago about the tour and, yup, Tcketmaster only had rear circle. So I went onto the SECC Website and it offered me tickets in the front stalls in the 2nd row. (I know! shock ) Clearly I snapped them up as fast as my fingers would type.

Sorry, I dont have any to spare but if I were you I'd give the box office a call. They might have something better than the Ticketmaster allocaton.

Alas, I wasnt so lucky with the Edinburgh gig with 2nd LAST row in the rear stalls lol Ah theres always a trade off.....

And Hi BTW ... first post but seeing as I posted the reply without a reply to begin with you probably guessed that hehe ... gotta love the edit button ...

Oh hell yes very much so ...last time I was there think was for Arcade Fire. Had to wait 20 minutes or so to get served, plastic glasses and totally mobbed. Its ok for a wee drink before hand but if you are looking for somewhere to hang out for a while before its probably not the best. Not the cheapest either.

Problem is there isnt a lot to choose from out where the Armadillo is - best option is the City Inn across the carpark but all the bars are pretty expensive. However, it takes like 10 mins by train from Central Station to get from the city centre to the SECC complex (or a few bodies sharing a cab) and there are a ton of bars around the station, including a large Weatherspoons. It has a wee raised seating area and I think tables can be reserved, although with it being an Easter Saturday I'd need to check that out.

Hoping to get to the Voxgate here but depends on some stuff so will need to wait and see but I live in Glasgow and work in the city centre so know it well. So if I can be of any help fire away smile

THE CITY INN HOTEL BAR has been posted on the Voxgates page as the venue for Glasgow, both pre- and post-show. I've checked - they do food from midday until 10,30pm, bar is open until 12pm.

P!nk is on the same day, though - so it might be a bit busy. If you're looking to eat there, go sooner rather than later. smile

Other venues for pre gig tipples are The Ben Nevis or Gazelle, both a five/ten min walk from the gig. Will be much cheaper the hotel.

Don't know who is supporting but I got an email from the SECC today with information relating to times / travel etc. They are listing support from 7.30 to 8pm with Ultravox on stage from 8.30 til 10pm. Looks like they are trying to avoid both venues emptying at once as Pink starts and finishes later.

Not sure if you guys who booked through Ticketmaster got the same email but just in case I've copied it below. Those who are travelling from farther afield might find it useful especially wink

PINK & ULTRAVOX CONCERTS – SATURDAY 11TH APRIL 2009
IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The timings for these events should be as follows (please note that these timings may vary slightly on the night of the event):

Ultravox (Clyde Auditorium)

6.00pm Doors to building open
7.00pm Doors to Auditorium open
7.30pm Support
8.00pm Interval
8.30pm Ultravox 10.00pm Show ends

Westbound on the Expressway (A814) take cut off signposted “Partick/Glasgow Harbour” and take a sharp left at the first set of traffic light signals. This will bypass diversions and take you to parking at the west of the site (Tall Ship end). Park as directed by stewards.

For Ultravox: leave the M8 motorway at junction 19 and join the westbound Clydeside Expressway (A814). Westbound on the Expressway (A814) take cut off signposted “SECC/Finnieston” and turn left at the traffic light signals onto Finnieston Street. At the traffic light signals at the bottom of Finnieston Street turn right past the City Inn and straight on towards Car Park 1 in front of the Clyde Auditorium. Park as directed by stewards.

1. At peak times, visitors may wish to consider using the following alternative parking areas

Park at the Glasgow Science Centre and cross the footbridge to the SECC (parking fee: £3.00 per visit).

Madness on Bothwell Street. 5 minute stroll from central station, where the train leaves for SECC/Armadillo. The whole town is bound to be jumpin, I know, and I'll be there.
