Sandwiches? I thought there was the promise of cider? confused2 confused Last year (don't know if you were there?) it was all burger bars and stalls charging a fortune. A stop off at Asda, Tescos or Morrisons on the way through maybe??

You want Zoider? You'm starpin' at Morrison's? Then you wants t'boiy yerself four bartles o' Weston's Old Rosie fer a mere foive pownds (check shelf flashes for further details, m'dears) Bigguns they be, an' arl, 660ml and blow-yer-legs-orf strength, noice an' clowdy with arl the goodness in 'im, innet? Or if you'm feelin' a bit more re-fined, then troy the Henry Weston's Vintage Reserve or the 1880. Whatever, anything 'cept that damn'd Oirish Mangey Zoider, or whatever they cawls it. Orl advertoisin' an' no craft's all 'im is.

Enjoy!

(I would like to make it hazily clear that I have no financial interests what-so-ever in Weston's Cider. I simply believe that cirrhosis, madness and temporary blindness are serious matters which should be embarked upon with due concern for local community industries and environmental conservation issues.)

An honourable mention to Normandy cider (also by good old 'enry Weston); and a very cloudy cider called Addlestone's - don't let it's calm demeanour fool you; this stuff is lethal and makes paint stripper seem tame ! eek

My favourite was always Scrumpy Jack..... but I haven't seen it for ages! So is the vintage reserve any good? I have to say I don't really want something that's leathal don't drink it to get pissed, so would rather have something that tastes nice! I have to admit that I rather like the Irish orange stuff! LOL wink laugh

Then you want to try Weston's Medium Dry or Weston's Medium Sweet. They're no stronger than Strongbow or any of the other gaggle of industrial lab ciders around but are made with far more care and far fewer additives. Oddbins occasionally has offers on these two. I still have a coupls of crates that worked out at something like 80p per 500ml bottle! Theb various offerings from Thatchers can be pretty reasonable, too (although Black Rat is perhaps to be avoided) whilst Frome Valley (Dry and Medium) from Herefrodoshire's Henney's Cider Company, is also commendable.

Addlestone's is okay, although it's seemingly a stealth product from one of the big brewing or marketing concerns and I'm more of a small-is-beautiful man (within reason). One to definitely avoid (apart from the that Irish pish, which I seem to recall is sold under the Bulmer's label over there - but I could be wrong) is South African cider. The lass who rehabilitated me to cider is currently working in Zimbabwe and this is the only cider she can lay her hands on. I think she finds it almost as distasteful as Uncle Bob's continued presence at the helm of the plague ship SS Harare. I checked a bottle out in Sainsbury's the other day. The back label read like an A-Level chemistry paper. AVOID!

Happy quaffing! And don't worry about the bits, that's what your teeth are for.

Right to get back on topic and slightly sideline cider for a minute...... Heaven 17 were FAB!
Took some cracking shots (I think, will find out soon enough i guess) Mr Gregory is very charming with his audience and where he saw photographers, made a point of posing for us! wink There were one or two arseholes in the crowd of course, to be expected with a freebie (and as I jokingly said to Si, we are in Falkirk after all! nervouslaugh )
Well despite my back still aching I throughoughly (that spelt right?) enjoyed myself!
It was nice having a wee group of us together....
I was going to give you all an individual mention, but you already know it's always a pleasure and never a chore! wink
Right let's just hope I develop these photos quicker than last year's Midge ones which incidently STILL aren't developed! I REALLY have to switch to digital!

Both nights were very good, met some old friends and new ones on Saturday night - a much alcohol-fuelled evening that carried on beyond the concert itself. Hooked up with Helen and John on the Sunday, a much quieter affair as Sleepy had to drive back to Edinburgh rather than kip over.

Human League were as good as I remember from the last time I saw them. The sound wasn't the best I've heard (and again on Sunday...) but thankfully for the League gig at least mainly affected the girls singing. I love the League, really, and part of the attraction is the fact that they're not the best vocalists but there was a very natural toilet break built into their set when Phil left the stage and Susanne took the mic and said 'One man...'. Exit stage left.

Corking set though, even with the added cheese of unofficial League song Together In Electric Dreams, which I love and Sleepy hates. Shame there was no Empire State Human this set, although Being Boiled went down extremley well.

The evening continued after that with the drunken mob (on 3 a plastic bottle of Carlsberg, ouch.) decamping to a small pub where we stumbled upon an extremely loud but very competent pub covers band doing everything from The Clash thru Talking Heads and Billy Bragg. Almost burst my eardrums, but a good way to finish the evening.

Sunday we headed back up for the Heaven 17 set, which was shorter than I anticipated but excellent nonetheless (bar the numpty Helen mentioned above). Couple of highlights of the evening for this set:

Geisha Boys And Temple Girls
An extremely long intro with lots of wailing from the excellent backing singers before Glenn Gregory burst into Temptation, which had the crowd rocking.
A piano/crooned version of Party Fears Two dedicated to Billy MacKenzie. It was fantastic and I'm sure the big man was overcome with emotion singing it.

The smaller gang then decamped to a pub in Falkirk where I spent an hour or so dodging pool cues as Helen tried to pick salt out of her hair.

Excellent weekend all round, nice to get back up there and meet everyone again. Some I haven't seen for a few years, I know you're peeking in, and extremely happy to catch up with you all again.

Special thanks to Sleepy for inviting me into his mum's house and making the coffee's roughly an hour after putting the kettle on...

Yeah, It was a bit of a bummer that. If i'd found the little B****rd who'd thrown it at me, he'd have left the place with a broken nose. I've washed hair several times and I can't get it out! banghead cussing Sorry for moanin about it! (and for attempting to remove it from my hair at the table!) shocked
As for pool cue dodging, Si I had no idea you were so flexible! I'm definately having you in my team for next years national Limbo dancing championships! wink

Si, yeah to be honest finances are a bit of a no-go for me at the moment... all my money going on another project (which I'll share at a later date as I don't want to jinx it, knowing me and my big mouth!) But I had hoped to treat myself as an early birthday present! Ah well, I might get to celebrate my birthday at some point as I haven't really done so for about 4 years! Ho hum! LOL

Nice pictures (I bet there would be more responses of H17 fans if this thread would not be named "Voxgate 05/05/2007 Falkirk" wink )!

The one keyboarder is Ian Greg Marsh, right? But the one with the beard is not Martin Ware, or am I wrong?

No, it's Martyn Ware. Ian Craig Marsh doesn't seem to do the live thing. No idea who the beardy bloke is...

Wow, I've written every name wrong smile . And there is always a problem with 50/50 chances (Ware instead of Marsh).

But Marsh was the one with the Jupiter 4 in the video for "Circus of Death" and Ware the one with the Korg, right?

Only picture I can find of the elder Ian Craig Marsh is this one:

This is from the artwork of Bigger Than America from '96 and is part of another brilliant Ray Smith art for a H17 release (although not politically speaking as it is EU-themed...).
