I've just heard from John at Fullfill re the eBay auction, and apparently the CDs are being posted today. He apologises for the delay and says there were some production difficulties due to the size of the booklet.

Just to clarify - we have no affiliation with Fullfill or their eBay auctions. wink

Thanks for the update Cerise. Now I can finally be excited!!

I understand all of that is beyond your control. And that other changes are beyond the seller's control.

I just think it's wrong to advertise something so far in advance - at least not when details aren't finialised. Just look at the anger and frustration it has caused here!

The lack of communication on this from them didn't help. At least I finally got a reply, but it took me at least 2 attempts. I never thought they wouldn't deliver, since my past experience was good, but it was getting a bit annoying, not knowing what was going on with something we'd already paid for.

Oh well - at least this sounds encouraging smile

The way things have been getting he may of just meant someone printed the booklet the size of an house.

I think its a credit to j.f. fans though, that we can still understand and in some ways forget the problems caused by 'selling' a product way too soon.
Pre ordering and special offers is one thing, but i agree that this was advertised way too far in advance

Then at last we can discuss this new album.

I sent a publisher payment last August for a book that, I learned afterwards, the author hadn't actually finished writing yet. The last word is that the author has decided to expand the book a bit. No sign of a publication date more specific than "2006", but the publisher's website no longer lists the trade paperback edition I've already paid for, now listing only the hardcover.

So, you know, I'm not worried at all about TCM. Fulfill got my Nation 12 CD to me, and they'll get my copy of TCM out to me. Conlan Press, on the other hand, I am worried about.

Mr Roby, I know what you mean, I put a down payment on a book back in 1983 and have still to receive all but a few extracts - 'The Quiet Man' it was called, can't remember the author.......

Totally, I'm afraid - I only know because I bought a copy of TCM from their auction too. I actually wrote yesterday requesting a refund, and got that reply. We have absolutely nothing to do with Fullfill, and cannot vouch for them beyond the fact that I got my Nation 12 CD from their auction OK last time... wink

Mine's arrived too! (and a CD for Marti arrived in the post too - we're getting presents on our daughter's birthday!)

The booklet is great - the concept of the album is lovely, whatever the music is like. JF = clever.

I'll get the hang of this in a minute. Just got home from work at 9.30 am (got called out) and found TCM waiting for me on the doormat. Just given it a listen through and liked most of it. Not what I expected though and nothing like Glimmer etc. I was hoping for some good old analogue sounds but this sounds like Korg wavestation (which is no bad thing). Has John F said what synths or software he has used as there is no mention on the sleeve notes? Wil he ever release Urban Motets or Metatronic? Who knows. Anyway another album to come and 3 Ultravox! re-releases andYork Fibbers in July. I can go to bed a happy man.

Enjoying it. There are one or two tracks I wish were longer, eg. track 11. Different tracks have different feels, reminding me of all sorts of other electronic sounds (eg. Kraftwerk, Bill Nelson, JMJ, AON, Ambient 1-4, Metal Beat, The Garden, Cathedral Oceans), and of none. smile

I'd like some info on equipment too. Maybe Steve M can put something on the MySpace page.

Only up to track 4, so expect realtime reports - oh, track five's just started: 1 & 2, good, track 3 very good (very JM Jarre), track 4 a bit like cathedral oceans 3, nice atmos.. Track 5, like radial harmonics off CO3, but with a bit more beef. I bet this sounds great through headphones.

Woo hoo! Just got in from work only to find a surprise Jiffy Bag on the floor.
Now typing this whilst immersing myself in the textures of this album.
Totally agree with Craig on track 3... very JMJ and as for track 6 "Looped Los Angeles". Stunning! Some very atmospheric tracks. The atmospheric segments of 2 or 3 tracks are separated by more upbeat tracks of which the aforementioned 3 & 6 are probably the MOST upbeat... and the longest at 7:22 & 6:01 respectively. Some reviews will no doubt say that the tracks don't flow and that this is somewhat disjointed. Not me as I definitely prefer prefer it this way as it stops the listener from, in my opinion, immersing (read relaxing) too heavily... plus you're never quite sure what's coming up next. This album should sound stunning in surround.

Sorry to rub peoples noses in it who haven't got theirs yet but it's rather special. A very atmospheric, mood inducing, instrumental album with "use headphones" written all over it. Lots of old style synth noises as well...Listening to track 4 at the mo and it reminds me of an old OMD instrumental- as well as making the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!

Agreed entirely. I've lost track of the amount of times I've listened to this and it just gets better every time! The last track, 'Hand Held Skies', is a thing of wonder! I love it all!
It's also good to read the sleeve notes to each track whilst listening to them.

Cheers John

After listening to this all I can say is yet another masterpiece from John.

For me the outstanding tracks are Kurfürstendamm (Very catchy track), Looped Los Angeles, skyscaper and Hand Held Skies(lovely atmosphere writtern just for sunsets). smile

The only disapointment for me was The projectionist. I found the sound very ear piercing and my wife said "What the f**k is that horrible noise" evil

One tiny criticism I found it hard to read small white writing on a black background. This is the sort of booklet that would have suited a 12" vinyl release.

I wonder if John has any plans to release a DVD of the short films with the music playing at the same time.
Regards
Peter

Transfered mine straight to ipod this afternoon, and played it now in full.
This is the first album ive ever played on ipod for a first listen, before the actual cd.

Fav's at the moment tracks 4, and 6, but will not play again til tomorrow. Not that the albums bad, but im sticking to my one album a day diet.

Very future / retro

Very John Foxx

Comments on comments. Peter Hill's right that the album doesn't "flow" but I'm sure that's intentional. Rather than make an album with one musical theme, he's made one with many, linked by a non-musical theme, and I like it. (If I were more cynical** I could suggest that, having made a load of disparate tracks, JF had to find something to make them all hang together somehow... but even if that's true (which I doubt) he's done it very cleverly - I love his style.)

Peter Metalbeat mentions "The Projectionist" and again I'm sure the slightly unlistenable quality of this track is intentional - it's quite avantgarde and daring to include something that's uncomfortable to listen to.

As for a video version, I did wonder about that, but I think part of the point of the project is for us to reconstruct the TCM's in our minds for ourselves as we're listening.

(**Could I _be_ any more cynical?? smile

I fear that if we go down this thread by the time I get mine no-one will be playing TCM anymore
eek
Quite true!

Ooops!I felt somehow dislocated from John's appearances and comments at MySpace. He's got a home here and at Metamatic and at Cathedral Oceans. He doesn't need someone else's Space!!!! banghead

Anyhow as you can see from the number of posts TCM has received a bigger response than Electrofear. You'll also know as with Electrofear TCM was not written or recorded during the year of release and is one of his unreleased works ie Musique Electron. Mind you it's not that very old only harking back to 2004.

IMHO I loved Glimmer and I always wondered if John would release a full instrumental album in those lines. A dream come true! lurve

I found the sound very ear piercing and my wife said "What the f**k is that horrible noise" evil
Like that featured on 'Burning Car'? Always have to turn that one down.

Yes, mine arrived yesterday too and, while I’ve only had time to listen to 3 or 4 tracks so far I have to say I’m mightily impressed – indeed far more so than I have been with a Foxx album for a good many years. There seems to be much more variety in the tracks and all sorts of different atmospheres and moods. Very intriguing booklet as well, in which the inspiration behind each track is explained (but not over-explained – the listener still has room to make their own interpretation). Like others in the thread I did think that it would be wonderful to hear the music alongside the “Tiny Colour Movies” that inspired it, but on reflection I can picture the visuals myself, and perhaps the actual movies might be very different from my perception.....
