19th and 20th April, 2 shows, 2 Countries, less than 1 hour's travel, 2 great Cities for Bars, pubs and clubs, and our beloved hostesses home town - sounds like a perfect opportunity for the mother of all Voxgates!

I'll be there for both woohoo

throw in Plymouth and I'll make three. Not a bad venue, not at all like Colston Hall or St Davids, some decent boozers nearby.....

I'm hoping to do both too.

Although, as I live in Cardiff, that venue'll be my pref if things get tricky!

Just FYI.

Anywhere front stalls A to about G. Good if you can get aisle seats no's 16/17 either side.

If you miss the stalls, I like the side balconies as you can get a close uninterrupted view looking down on the band. My faves CC 10-15. However, the anti-fun police stop you from standing up (apparently there's a one in 5 billion chance of falling over).

The Colston Hall website have good detailed seat plans - concerts usually run seating plan A. Phoning the box office direct allows you to select your seats.

I'll be going to the Bristol gig, and probably flying down the day before, and hanging around the area (cider!) for a few days afterwards before heading for London.

After an eon trying to negotiate the Tickmaster site (...you know, they're 2 minute countdown is even more terrifying than that of your average 'nuclear bomb' action movie...) I am now confirmed for Bristol too.

Okay, deep breath, try to stem the rising tide of panic . . . I eventually went to the TicketMaster site havign been away from things all day and found that the only thing it had to offer me in Bristol was right up in the Gods somewhere! I seek advice! Do I buy then sneak down? Do I wait until they go on general sale and pick up a better seat? What? Computers, booking, stuff, 21st Century . . .AAAAGGHH! I will not miss this!

Ha! Ha-haa! Ha!-ha!-ha!-ha!-haaaa! Row CC, here we come. I'd've preferred CC41 since that's the label in many of my clothes, but the view wouldn't have been as good.

Sadly, Hammersmith yielded only seats up in the Gods, miles from the stage, so I reluctantly decided to sit that one out. Mind you, Bournemouth has a few going, I'm told.

Hi Cromlech - I can recommend The City Inn, good restaurant and bar, modern rooms - and I paid £74 for my room. Have stayed there before and recommended it to many visitors to Bristol, all have glowing reports.

Hope this helps

You're welcome Cromlech.

Plesae dont go west from Ystradgynlais though, you'll end up in the sea, or worse - Fishguard!

I'm based in Ammanford so not a million miles away. Keen to meet up with others from the forum at Cardiff and Bristol otherwise I'll be "Billy no Mates".

Hi Llais

I've had nothing for either Cardiff or Bristol from Ticketmaster.

That said, I think they say that they only send out very close to the gig in question...possibly in the week or two leading up to it.

I think this is to dissuade ticket touting , etc.

I'll be honest, I'm not that happy about it, but haven't got around to pinging TM yet to find out when they will send them.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Cromlech, I wasn't too concerned - it's just nice to have them in your hand. I did read the website message that said they might not be despached until nearer the date, but also see that other venues have had their tickets.
Still, I'm really looking forward to April, going to Edinburgh (family commitments permitting), Cardiff and Bristol.

best pub for cider in bristol has to be the apple, a dutch barge near baldwin street, not that close to the venue, but not too far.
most of the pubs near the colston hall are horrible chain things, but the hatchet is a lovely old building not too far from there, just down the hill out the back of the venue

Yep, The Hatchet is a nice old pub just down from the back of the Colston Hall. Anyone know if it does food? If not, there's always the FlavourZ place opposite the Hall - buffet restaurant and bar. Horrible chain thing yes, but it has beer and food and it's about 10 seconds' stumble from the venue! smile

...which leads me to the question:

Has anyone who booked through Ticketmaster received their tickets for either the Cardiff or Bristol gigs yet?

If you have: can you let me know when you got 'em?

I know there's just under 2 months to go...ticket touts to deny access to tickets by means of late dispatch, etc...but it would be really absolutely ginger-peachy to have 2 pairs of tickets...yes, that is 4 tickets...(I got a First in CSE Maths)...in my recently manicured mitts.

Still no sign of mine - for Cardiff or Birmingham!! (I've got to miss Bristol - the Children's home doesn't open on Saturday Night - so no one to look after my daughter wink ), so a friend has taken it off my hands - treat him with care - he's the guy who looks like Shrek - you can't miss him!!
Managed to get the 'print your own' option for Edinburgh, so provided the flight is on time, that'll be the best Good Friday ever.
How many members of the forum are going to this one? And where are we going to meet for a beer or two?
Also, this seems to be one of the few venues with quite a number of tickets still left - it may be due to it being a Monday, but when I saw Midge in Swansea a number of years back, there were no more than 50 in the audience. Hopefully ther'll be a last minute rush...........

Re: Bristol, I think FlavourZ might be the way to go. I just looked up both it and The Hatchet on Google and was totally put off by The Hatchet\'s dire website . frown

Whilst I can't stand the extraneous 'Z' on the name, FlavourZ is large, easy to find, right opposite the Colston Hall, right on the Centre and it's nice and bright - down by The Hatchet it's OK in the day, but at night you do tend to feel like you might get mugged, it's a bit dark! Also some people are bound to want to eat, and FlavourZ has a range of food to suit most tastes - Italian, Mexican, Chinese & Indian. The Hatchet has general bar food - burgers, jacket spuds, ham & chips etc, until 7pm. Anyone have any preferences, or any better ideas for a Bristol Voxgate venue that's nice and close to the Colston Hall..?

We'll gather all the Voxgate venue details from people soon and put them all on the Voxgates page . Get your thinking caps on! smile

Chappie and I will be at the Bristol gig. I am a bit annoyed that it was moved from the Sunday to the Saturday as this has made it difficult for me workwise. I would have gone to the Birmigham gig and not Bristol if I'd known when the tickets went on sale.

I can't understand why Ticketmaster allow you to print out tickets for some venues, yet keep you waiting forever at others!
If 'touts' want to get hold of tickets, all they'll do is bypass the ticketmaster site and buy direct from the venue's box office, surely?
I'm probably missing something obvious here, but they're happy enough to take our money early frown
If I buy something on eBay, I expect it to be despached once my payment has been received, so why should purchasing tickets be any different.

Cromlech, kind Sir, as a native of our delightful Capital City, do You have any ideas for a venue for the Voxgates? I realise this is a Monday night gig, so probably everywhere will be quiet, and as it's a 'school' night I'll be driving, but would be great to meet up with a few of the 'forummers' before the concert smile

Hi Mr L

I'll have a think about it and post a couple of ideas tomorrow about a possible venue.

Fortunately St David's is just a short walk from the cafe quarter, which would allow for solids or liquids to be consumed.

Do we know how many Forumites will be interested in attending a meet?

Hello kiddies, hello...

Well there's a bunch of options in terms of places to meet and eat prior to something thats' going on later on in the evening...

In no particular order in V short walking distance from St David's Hall there is:

Las Iguanas (South American food and drinks)

Nando's (Portugese chicken type stuff)

Taurus Steak House (it serves...no wait!...it'll come to me...)

Spice Quarter (Indian-esque food)

Pizza Express (...I dare you to not get this one....)

Zizzi's (Italian)

and....

The Cottage, Lava Lounge, Copa, La Tasca...

And tump loads more.

And on a Monday, you could probably park a Douglas DC3 Dakota in all of them!

Just FYI.

I've just taken the register, and come up with the following list from this thread of possible attendees!

Llaeth
Cromlech
JDamsell
Rob
Paul
Cerise
Ziggyson
Regrieperrin
Feorag NicBhride (Hope I spelled it right)

From my limited knowledge of the Cardiff nightlife, I would suggest 'The Yard', 42-43 St Mary Street, CF10 1AD. Decent size venue and serves drink and food. Not sure about 'post gig' on a Monday night, maybe a swift one in the bar at St David's Hall then home to bed!
Cromlech, your suggestions greatly appreciated! Anybody got any favourites?

Hello everyone. Haven't been on here for a "bit" but I am very much looking forward to the Bristol gig and seeing the version of the band that eventually led me to John Foxx! Logistics of travel and a place to lie down have now been sorted out so I would be interested in boosting the numbers for the Bristol pre/post shindig. I guess that tickets should be received sometime in the next fortnight ... ? wink

It'll be great to see you, Church Puddle (great name, by the way!).

I'm just looking into which venue would be best for Bristol. Will post here and on the Voxgates page when it's all set. smile

The Church Puddle

From my limited knowledge of the Cardiff nightlife, I would suggest 'The Yard', 42-43 St Mary Street, CF10 1AD. Decent size venue and serves drink and food. Not sure about 'post gig' on a Monday night, maybe a swift one in the bar at St David's Hall then home to bed!
Cromlech, your suggestions greatly appreciated! Anybody got any favourites? [/b]
Thanks Llaeth - The Yard looks good. I'll add it to the Voxgates page. wink

Just out of interest, please can you tell me phonetically how Feorag's name is pronounced? I'm gueesing it's an Irish name, but a couple of Irish friends I asked didn't know it & suggested it could be French.

It's Scottish Gaelic and, yes, an Irish person will pronounce it completely wrong when they see it. Grab me at a Voxgate and I will say it for you - I've ordered a T-shirt with my name on the back (sans accents).

Aah - I think someone did say it might be Gaelic. They also thought your surname was the Gaelic equivalent of a Scottish Mac or Mc. Hopefully I'll be at Hammygate so I'll catch you there. smile I'm enjoying Charles' "The Family Trade" by the way.

The one in Bristol, yes? Hmm, that's probably not a bad idea. Anyone else up for an 80s bar for post-show?

ahhh, well i was a baby, in the early 80s so i never got the chance to wear any of the great and not so great clothes, i did have a mullet hair cut in 88, when i was 8, let me tell you i don't let my mum get those pics out much, so was hoping to make the effot, but then don't want to end up like a clown either lol

Hello all!

Arrived back from Scotland on Tuesday night, 1 a.m., and by Wednesday midday and some slight hesitation, I had booked a new flight already!!

As we all agreed in Edinburgh and Glasgow - practically (if not actually) everyone involved is a bit crazy (thank god for that). What fantastic shows!

Also (furthermore), I'm very happy to announce that I will be assisting the BRISTOL show in the company of two real gentlemen: Österreicher II and Cromlech - who at this point don't know each other yet, tee-hee...
excited

Can't wait to reap the wild wind late tonight, heading for Bristol already!!
woohoo

Enjoy Birmingham those who are going!

It will be a pleasure meeting the friendly ones form the forum I haven't met personally yet.

Kisses & tears of joy (as throughout the first couple of songs)!!!

Isabel - Wondering who persuaded whom this time (ahem)... wink

I can, in fact, confirm Ms LO's previous 'press release' that myself and Herr Ö2 are in fact fetching up in Bristol tomorrow. (Arrive Trains Cymru permitting...)...

I can also confirm I'm looking forward to meeting various online 'chums' and discussing just how good Iron Maiden are...

...or something...

Bon chance, mes amis

Dear all

I have the day off, so am about to pop into Cardiff to do some shopping.

So just briefly about the Cardiff gig today: The weather today is glorious to the point it's almost a shame it wasn't an open air gig. So let's raise the roof on the St David's... wink

See you all later!

hey everyone, new to these boards.
Was at the Bristol gig and after seeing Ultravox there, decided I wanted to go to cardiff too.
Seat isn't the best (3rd tier), but I was on the front row in Bristol so I don't mind!
But yeah, starting to get very excited!

Ditto the above,Cardiff was outstanding. What do you mean we speak 2 languages here, welsh & vox lyrics(and a good sense of rhythm), thanks to everyone, band,(who rather enjoyed themselves too by the looks of it), crew, the west country contingent for adding some 'close harmony singing' to our choir.

Unfortunately I didn't get to speak to anyone but you may have seen me down at the front. Well worth the 100 mile journey!

Hi everyone

had a great night in Cardiff - couldn't believe the Guys were back in my hometown. It was an evening of magical memories and mixed emotions - the Band sound as fresh as ever. I also had great fun before and after the Concert - what a lovely bunch you all were!

Enjoy the rest of the Tour xx (Heather) smile

I do not have too many words to describe the days spent in Bristol and Cardiff.
Even less for the two gigs at the Colston Hall and St. David's Hall: all DREAMY and ENCHANTING ...
An embrace goes to Cherise and Robert (pleasure to have known you in person), to the great Clive from Manchester, to the nice Edwin from Amsterdam.

IT'S BEEN A PRIVILEGE!

So!!! Midge's shirt having been the object of many conversations and communicational exchange whatsoever, as well as topic in concert reviews (would you believe it!), may I point out shortly (again - for I did it in another thread already) that I am surprised about the reactions (in general) towards the Glaswegian's new look at the beginning of the tour.

Now: I LIKED IT!!! A bit more colour won't do him any harm. Besides,"live and let live" being a wonderful life motto to build one's thinking and acting structures upon, why the hell should anyone with a perhaps doubtful clothing taste themselves at all make fun of somebody else for wearing a flowered shirt?

The photo below, however, shows Mr. Österreicher II selecting a suitable shirt for Midge in Bristol, shortly before Mr. Cromlech's arrival on 18th April 2009 (which also happened to be the Welshman's birthday, btw!!!)

We thought this would be a nice one. Only the tie that Steve chose to go along with it is not my cup of tea. laugh

(photo displayed with Steve's kind permission, of course).

I was at the Hammersmith Voxgate but never got a chance to say hello....maybe next time! I did meet the lovely Steve....good to put a face to the author of all those eloquent posts!

And yes given my um 'appreciation' of the lovely Midge I think I can safely say I'm female lol! wink

Just had a look at that AP pic....not quite sure which is worse the shirt or the expression on his face!

Curiousity also prompted me to look up 1111 under numerology online....quite apt lol!

Ahaaaa!!! So what did the numerology indications reveal...?

Oh, he (Steve) did not tell me that he'd met another woman, LOL!!! Are you on any Voxgate photo published on the forum? Because there are many people that I did not know (at Hammersmith but also Bristol), for instance the whole Klara photo album is full of peeps unknown to me!

I am SO grateful that people from this forum are also in real life so very friendly and helpful as up to now virtually. It is absolutely amazing!!!! What a fantastic community. People in here are (generally) very intelligent, friendly and they have excellent manners. Wow! smile

I'm camera shy and quite self effacing so I'll not be found on any photos.....I hope lol!

I'd agree that this is a great community. Over the years I've found most of the folk on here a nice, friendly, courteous bunch...nice to have now met some of them.

Hmm explored beyond numerology to find that number seems to have all sorts of interesting significances .... one of the most interesting ones referred to 1111 as the doorway ie the crack between two worlds...I like that one! wink

Isabel,
Amethyst was sitting next to what WAS your seat when we returned to the Grove after the gig. Exile had pinched your seat when you got up, so I'd kept you another, which I offered you when you came back.... you declined and joined the Monument boys. An opportunity lost as I hadn't had the chance to speak to you either. Never mind, maybe next time eh?! smile
