I'll be there for sure, though the 5 minute walk is a bit of an onorous journey Be great to meet others in a Bar before Concert The best bar in the area is probably the Barony down on Broughton Street. The Theatre Royal Bar next door to the theatre, and the Wetherspoon in the multiplex next door but one on the other side aren't bad, and there is drinkable beer in Milnes and the Conan Doyle. All the other bars in the area are loud, gay and have nothing worth drinking.

Sounds great guys, although the Conan Doyle is a wee bit on the small side What about Lloyds Bar Karen? Thats not too bad or too loud & the beer is cheaper & there are normally plenty of drinks promotions on I think there will be tickets going for the Citrus for the aftershow, let you know guys when we have more information on this ok

I spent a couple of holidays a year there throughout my childhood and youth since my grand parents lived in a little place called Grantown on Spey, near Aviemore. I think it's simply breathtaking around there. It has the most beautiful and evocative scenery in the whole of Britain for me. If you find yourself near Grantown, check it out. However, I lived my entire youth six miles from Birmingham, England. A place that couldn't be more different from the highlands if it tried. I know that Canada can be pretty breathtaking too so you might not think the highlands are quite as incredible as I do. Still well worth a look though. And don't forget London. As long as you pack some cash you can have a really very good time there. Having said that, the major museums are all free and most of those are pretty stunning.

I too will be coming in at Waverely and so want somewhere that's between the station and the Playhouse and of course, reasonably priced. Any locals have any better suggestions - Sleepy, Mike L, Davy, Helen??? Nae hotels where you pay by the hour though! Cheers Mike

Originally posted by Mike _C: Sleepy, Mike L, Davy, Helen??? Nae hotels where you pay by the hour though!Sorry Mike, Those are the only hotels we know! Just messin...... (sorry for not replying sooner, we've all been floored with flu, not had the concentration for ANYTHING, not even the internet! ) there are literally hundreds of hotels in Edinburgh, but the ones between the Waverly and the Playhouse will be among the most expensive. The Balmoral (or the bad moral as it's known by it's employees), The Scotsman etc. The Thistle hotel is about £88 and is just up the road from the playhouse, at the St James centre.... I thought that was quite good..... http://www.thistle.com/hotels/edinburgh/ The Osbourne is round the corner, further along the road from the Conan Doyle, on York Place. It's basic but it's fine in a basic clean accomodation type way: www.osbournehotel.com Like Feorag said, there's a holiday inn express across the road. Don't worry too much about the hotel not being too close to the venue, you can get just about anywhere in the city for about a fiver taxi fare, it's such a compact city. It also depends on whether you want to be nearer the train station, Playhouse or the Citrus if you're intending of making a voxgate of it. There is a Premier Inn at Haymarket (if you can stay on the train to Haymarket Station, more so the better) which is also quite close to the Citrus. This is in the general vacinity of Fountain Park to which Daz referes. They call it Haymarket, but it's nearer Lothian Road. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the gig, money is so incredibly tight and with me already being over the overdraft I had thought that it was a no-goer. I tried the card and it went through.... I'll incur charges of course, but I suppose at least I have a ticket. Really wanted to do Glasgow as well, but it's not looking hopeful, I'm too skint! Hopefully see you all when you get here and it'll be a more successful "voxgate" than the one at the beginning of the month!

Osbourne gets slagged off something rotten on tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Revie...h_Scotland.html - but I suppose you gets what you pays for. I would agree that you could stay just about anywhere in Edinburgh and still be in easy reach of anywhere you wanted to visit.

- but I suppose you gets what you pays for.LOL, exactly! If you read the individual comments they've all said it was clean and passible! [edit..... conversation is a bit pointless.... it's fully booked 10th April anyway! LOL] If you want gourmet food and outstanding decor, book in to the Balmoral... in fact don't, the Chef's name is an apt description of the food.... BLAND!

Right, that's me in the Holiday Inn. A short walk across the road seems preferable to walking.

If it was me personally and I was paying up front in advance, I'd go for the Thistle rather than the holiday inn and save myself at least 20 quid. Thistle hotel to playhouse 5 min walk
