So there's a curry, a pre-show, Ultravox and an aftershow, and translators! Cool!

I've only ever been to the Citrus and have surprisingly lucid memories of a good night there. One size never fits all (fnah, fnah) and wherever people end up I'm sure it will be a good night, but I am looking forward to a great end to a great night at the Citrus cool

Question for our Edinburgh residents.

I will be travelling to the Edinburgh gig by car, could someone please advise as to where best it would be to park my car?
I was visiting the castle last year and I used the Park and Ride at Ingilston to get into the city centre which was great, however I am a bit wary using it in April as I want to make sure that I can get back from the gig in time before the P&R closes without having to leave early.

I may also consider travelling by train but again I don't want to leave the gig early in order to catch a train.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Whenever I am back in Edinburgh , I park somewhere in the area between Leith Walk & Easter Road , which is perfect for the Playhouse.
If you are just going in the evening you should be okay , if you are wanting to park all day some of the closer spaces wil be restricted but the daytime restrictions are lifted within an easy walk of the venue ( somewhere around Albert Street )

Hey Ray.... where are you staying? are there parking facilities at your accomodation? There are several park and rides around the outskirts.... and the Omni centre we're all meeting at is on top of a multi-story..... might be a bit expensive though!

Details man, the devil is in the detail (which direction and you coming from and roughly what area are you staying? wink

Thanhs for all the replies.

I will be travelling from Irvine via the M8 so I will be coming in to Edinburgh from the west.

We are not staying, travelling home after the gig.

Hi Ray..... It's going to be a long day for you!
like the others have said it depends on what time you're planning on being there..... I think the parking restrictions end about 6pm or 6:30pm. There is on street parking (proper bays with metered parking) across the road between the Cathedral (St Marys) and John Lewis... you'd have to pay up until 6pm (or 6:30 i can't remember which) and then it's free after that.... this would work out cheaper than parking in either the NCP at the st.james centre or omni centre.
It really depends on how far into town you want to bring your car.... if you're coming in from the west, there's also a park and ride at Riccarton and the gyle too (I think) you could of course park in any of the residential areas on the way in Corstorphine, Balgreen, Roseburn, Gorgie, Dalry, west Coates and then bus it in! The town centre is utter chaos at the mo with the tram works so be warned! wink
Don't know if any of this helps at all? but I'm happy to try to help off the board if you want to email me.

rather than trying to battle through the city centre , it may be best for you to go round the bypass and come in via Leith ?

I'd advise against it! Leith walk has some of the worst disruption due to the trams... it's one of the major routes and there are some serious restrictions up and down Leith. Depending on how far he wants to bring his car into town best route is straight along the M8, continuing onto the A8 past the zoo, rugby stadium turning up a west coates BEFORE coming to Haymarket station (Haymarket area and on to the west end are a NIGHTMARE at the mo!) into the georgian crescents, along Drumsheugh, on to Queen street and it's stright on to York Place and Picardy Place from there! I'm sorry if that made no sense at all Ray... I don't know how familiar you are with Edinburgh?

Looks like I'll be using the Park and Ride at Hermiston as it is open 24 Hrs. This is on my route and will save any bother trying to negotiate the City Centre.

I see the chaos on Princes Street was featured on yesterdays BBC Breakfast News. They didn't paint a positive picture of the city by showing work on the tram lines at a standstill and saying how it's not a good impression for the tourists.

They didn't show anything else so not sure what the rest of the area around there looked like.

Still, looking forward to coming up in just under 3 weeks.

AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH - 3 WEEKS!! woohoo

Yes, I know the area. The Claremont Hotel went into liquidation a few years back but opened up recently, this time known as Taylors. A colleague at work told me that it allegedly went on fire the other week, but I don't know if there is any truth in that.

Ahh! Used to see that wee mill as my gran stayed down the Woodwynd! Oh well, lots to talk about if you're going to the Edinburgh gig,I may see you there! laugh

Changing tack slightly I would imagine there's a distinct chance that a lot of the EV community turning up for the pre-show at the opening gig won't necessarily know each other and I'm just wondering how to easily remedy this.

Those wearing EV clothing will be easy to spot, but I wonder whether it might be possible to reserve a specific corner / area of the chosen boozer and post the details here so that everyone who wants to join in knows where to go? Given that this will be a sizeable group and put money in the till then hopefully the bar staff will oblige (and probabl do-able for other pre-shows).

Otherwise we could all bring along a copy of the FT (something pink laugh ). Does one of the Edinburgh locals want to take this forward?

Cheers

Thomas

OMG - IT'S NEXT WEEK ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus I can buy ginger marmelade and Tetley and Twinings tea bags, yoo-hoooo!!!!!!!!!! And SCONES!!!!!

excited

Still can't believe, after so many years, to express the words: "I am going to SEE UUUUUUUULTRAVOX".

Mind you, as a student I founded the official German HÉROES DEL SILENCIO fanclub and yet I didn't go to the reunion tour in 2007 (although the nearest was Valencia, 2-3 car hours away). Last week, it ocurred to me to check it oot on youtube, and the videos were incredibly moving and some even made a few tears roll...

Here is what I missed (look at this crowd!): HÉROES DEL SILENCIO: "TESORO" (live in Mexico 2007) wink

It's not going to be like this next week, I know that. But it's going to be very very special.

"The music of ULTRAVOX has always made me feel instantly happy, it has an exclusively positive anchorage in my subconscience, it's amazing! It will be my 5th Ultravox gig and I am really looking forward to watching the lads perform again after so many years", says Lava Ocean, CEO Lavaocean Enterprises. laugh

has anyone in Edinburgh been able to pop round to the mosque kitchen and check the opening times ( particulary on a Friday ? ). I know times are listed on a few review sites , but am somewhat reluctant to believe everything I read on the net.

OMG! It's a week on Friday Vox fans!

Here's another link for the peeps who would like to get aquainted a wee bit earlier in the day & tuck into a Ruby Murray while we're at it!

The Mosque Kitchen is open from 12noon - 1.20pm, then 1.40pm onwards.

I'll be there from 12noon wink

http://www.list.co.uk/place/102602-mosque-kitchen/

I took the liberty of calling Lloyds No 1...(The Bar situated within the Omni Centre, right next door to the Edinburgh Playhouse), they have advised that the pub gets really busy after around 4.30pm & there is no way to reserve sections within the pub, so try & get in there as early as you can...(typical Friday after work in Edinburgh really!)

See you there...C'MON ULTRAVOX...LETS BE AVIN' YA'

KICK ON!!! excited excited excited

Yes, I think the plan is to head straight to Lloyds around 3pm'ish & try & get the main window area on the left as you enter the pub.

For those people going for a Ruby Murray, please try & get there 12 noon sharpish wink
