It depends. What's your budget for the room and are you planning on travelling by car or train?

This is going to sound odd-consider the source. Are there any places to set up a canvas tent? I'll be bringing my own room, if I can swing everything else. Thanks! Staci

Oxford hotels are really expensive. Perhaps something to do with the large numbers of rich parents that descend on the place.
I might come to this one too. I used to live in Oxford and really liked the place. One for old time's sake this in more ways than one.

North Oxford (the Summertown and Jericho areas especially) is now very upmarket; very nice, but expensive (but saying that, some great restaurants - I\'d certainly recommend this one if you have time to explore ). If you want to pitch a tent up anywhere in Blackbird Leys, you could I guess. Even if money was tight, personally I wouldn't given it's reputation, but each to their own. All the best, Paul

Like any city, the city centre hotels in Oxford can be expensive, certainly places like 'The Randolph' and 'The Old Parsonage', but there are some slightly out of town hotels and bed and breakfast establishments that are reasonably priced (can certainly recommend some down Iffley Road). Like anywhere, I guess the way to do it would be to shop around on the internet as soon as possible and book early for the best deals.

Blackbird Leys is a tough housing estate; but what i meant is i believe the AREA is semi-rural; therefore there may be some countryside on which to pitch the tent? . Of course, not everyone who went to Oxford long ago turns into an alky. It does depend on which college someone is attached to I guess. The area just outside Blackbird Leys has a lot of Green Belt land surrounding it - there are a number of smaller villages on the roads leading out of Oxford to the south, so, yes, I guess it could be considered semi-rural. Just like any areas just outside other small to middling city's excluding some of the main ones such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, etc. The site that David suggested is close for anyone wanting to do Oxford really on a budget. Next to the river, plenty of footpaths and bus routes connecting to the centre. A much better area to pitch camp than blindly risking your luck somewhere near Blackbird Leys for sure. http://www.siteseeker.co.uk/aspx/details.aspx?id=7240 Regards, Paul

City Centre, George Street especially, on any night of the week in Oxford is busy and noisy so you may want to consider another option. Regards, Paul

Paul H, do you know the Jude the Obscure pub in Jericho? Me and the missus spent many many happy nights in there.

In fact, Jude the Obscure would be a great place for a Voxgate!
Yes, I would avoid George Street as a place to stay. It's slap-bang in the middle of town and has all the issues that go with that. Not a bad street, but I wouldn't recommend it for trying to get a night's sleep.

Hi there, Yep, certainly do know it - nice place, but in this instance not quite the right place for a Voxgate perhaps. We think there's a better place and we're having a look at that tomorrow, so will post more about that early next week. Regards, Paul

Oxford's Voxgate (pre & post-show) will be at COPA of Oxford . It's a nice bar, opposite the venue. See updated Voxgates page .
