I might be up for this one. I've given the Hammersmith one a miss so far, mostly due to the expense of the others. This one could be quite special however. Standing up? Just like the old days.

"Bring plenty of energy with you, we want lots of of yelling and cheering between songs - you've got the Monument DVD crowd to compete with!"

No offense, but I think that the audience on "Monument" was a bit lame compared to the crowd in Stockholm at several occations; (And other live material from other bands) singing most choruses, acting choir in the "ooo-ooo-ooo-oooooooooh" part in "The Voice" etc (To be honest, we weren't a enthusiastic crowd, we were quite hysterical laugh )

Or could it be mic placement/mixing?
In my humble opinion you could hardly hear the crowd; if it's a live recording I prefer to hear the audience and differences compared to the studio albums; to sit in front of the TV and "getting in to it" as if you were there and get nostalgic.....

Also on my wishlist: don't, don't don't mix in other material (as the videos in Monument) for the same reason, pleaaaaseee!

Just my opinion, really hope I didn't offend somebody present in the Monument crowd.... wink

Hey MickeH, you've made some very good points. I agree with you and no-one should be offended by a constructive opinion. I also hope the forthcoming live dvd doesn't incorporate clips from promo videos - that running format on 'Monument The Soundtrack' was awful and whoever suggested it should have been horse-whipped. wink

As for Hammersmith I'm not expecting to see anything until a ten days beforehand!!

Anyone interested in finding a place close to the venue that could be a meeting place, prior to the show? Where we could get drunk and find some decent food?

A friend and I will join the party, coming all the way from Denmark, and we obviosuly don't know where to go...

Anyway; would be fun to hang around with you! Whoever you are!

Right we really need to get a move on with this. I will be arriving in London Thursday lunchtime and, as we are staying in Camden, was quite taken with Zensai from their website. It will be open 'til 2am. Alternatively what are the pubs like?

Ta Cerise. As long as it serves beer and crisps I'll be fine - I have given up crisps for Lent and can't tell you how much I am already looking forward to a packet of cheese and onion. roflmao I'm also going to try and persuade OH to go to Zensai beforehand where I will be forced by law to have a couple of vesper martinis laugh - if anyone wants to come with they're welcome!

Greetings: I have a ticket for the recorded Roundhouse gig, and would greatly enjoy meeting up with anyone/everyone also attending, before and after the show; share travel expenses, etc. If it's the Lock Tavern that has been the officially designated spot, that's fine. Anyone willing to share a taxi or tube ride with a 'passing stranger' to get to the Tavern and/or Roundhouse for this special event? Willing to buy you a pint for your kindness and company. wink

Count me in at The Lock Tavern. What time will it start? If the lads go on-stage at 8.30 as they have been so far, might a 6.30 k.o be a good idea?
That would allow a good ninety minutes' worth of booz....errr chatting with fellow fans before setting off for The Roundhouse.

Several of us at the Holiday Inn
http://www.holidayinncamden.co.uk/index.html

This place may also have vacancies, at least 1 person staying there:
http://www.cornerhsehotel.com/

I'm quite keen to get at/near the front too so will probably head up to the Roundhouse after the Holiday Inn get-together (5-30 to 6-30 in lounge bar) smile

I enjoyed Hammersmith so much, that I rang the Roundhouse today and luckily got a ticket. Looking forward to doing it all again

I take it, that it's going to be 6.30 at the Lock Tavern, just wondering if anyone will be there earlier?

It's only about three or four stations away from Chalk Farm the closest one to the venue. I think the underground closes at midnight....but buses may run later. underground map

You'll be able to get buses / night buses to Euston no problem so you'll be fine.

I'll probably be night-bussing it back when the after-show ends so if needed I can point you in the right direction

I was really hoping to go to this one, it's one of the reasons I didn't try harder to get to Hammersmith, and now I've just had a job interview moved to the Friday! It would be a really bad idea for me to go to the gig and then have to travel 150 miles back up for the interview. What a p****r. I really hope they come round again...

NOTE REGARDING FOOD: The Lock Tavern STOPS serving food from 3pm to 5pm (kitchen is open 12-3pm & 5-10pm). However they tell us that there are plenty of restaurants, pizza places etc up and down Chalk Farm Road.

Doors open 7pm.

It's quite a big venue I think, and a lot of people will skip the support and just head in around 8pm - so I imagine you'll be OK even if you're not at the front of the queue for doors opening. wink

Found the last tube times online, Chalk Farm and Camden Town are on the Northern Line, the same as Euston: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/FandL-Northern-Jan08.pdf I'm booked into a hotel near King's Cross so I'm hoping to get the tube too. Really looking forward to this, didn't think I'd be able to come and even though I'm sitting right at the back it will still be worth it excited

Camden Town is only one stop from Euston on the Northern. Don't think they stop at Mornington Crescent.

They did close Mornington Crescent for a few years, but it opened again not so long ago. Having said that, I don't think it's a long gap between stations or that there will be zillions of people using that particular station, so it shouldn't lengthen the journey time toooo much!

Only 24 hours to go!! excited excited excited (do you get the impression I'm excited at all laugh )

The Northern Line does stop at Mornington Crescent - it depends on which branch you travel on (Charing Cross does and Bank doesn't) - something like that.

Hmm, translator and TFL travel advisor all in the same day (and it's my day off laugh )

Chappie and I should be in the Lock Tavern just after 5. I'll be wearing black (for a change), and drinking whisk(e)y/bourbon and cokes.

(Is your dad not going along then?) [Big laugh]

It was so sweet to meet you! Enjoy tonight. Although I actually did check flights 2 days ago, I will this time have to keep my decision and... not come. My heart is bleeding (it really is) and I will be thinking very much and profoundly about all you guys tonight.

ALL: please make sure you DANCE!! People hardly danced on this tour, and not everybody had a dislocated knee like our favourite Welshman on the forum!

Remember that it will be filmed, and once filmed, it will be there FOR ETERNITY. Please be aware of it! This filming can NEVER EVER be changed afterwards, and your children and grandchildren will watch the DVD in another 20 years time. So if the camera points at you, just smile, look happy and... "move yer arses". For 25 years, you have been convinced this would never happen. So please take advantage of it now! Take what you can! You are free. YOU ARE FREE. And I will be dancing with you all tonight! [Big Grin]

Big kiss to you, Alexandera! [Kiss]
You heard the Spanish lady! Do as you are bidden. As for there being a spare double bed...I expect you will get a taker at some point soon for that, "drunkeness and cruelty" being on the agenda later. Have fun y'all and see you later to get locked at...The Lock!

Can't go either. Probably a good thing - I'd only be spending the after show counting all the people trying to qualify for Alexandera's spare bed... biglaugh

NEXT time they're touring, playing - I'm taking plenty of time off and getting to as many as poss!

Enjoy tonight, all!

It's a London male thing, love!

The idea of two things coinciding - an Ultravox-loving woman and a spare bed - does strange things to we mere males.

Wow. Ultravox fans are so much fun. So interested, so full of joy last night (and beer ;-) ), and yet also very detailed in opinions. So very friendly, I had an amazing time at my first voxgate. Thanks to everyone I met.

Beyond 10 or more people from all over the uk,
I met...

3 Germans
1 New Zealander
3 Finish
4 Netherlanders
3 French
and 2 Seperate swedish guys (I introduced them to each other)

If it hadnt been for the concert being such a brilliant, packed out, electro rock thumping show I would have been convinced I was at the Eurovision song contest to be meeting such a diverse world of fans all gathered together.

Les fervents d'ultravox sont fantastiques
Ultravox enthusiasten sind fantastisch
Ultravox zijn de enthousiasten fantastisch
Ultravox innokas ihailija aari eriskummaine
Ultravox entusiasten de/vi/du/ni ar fantastisk
Streuth cobber them Ultravox fans are fantastic sports mate.

Great to meet Steve W and Chappie, how jealous do I feel this morning that you've both witnessed 10 gigs.

So I went to Nottingham and it was really really good show, but it was a boring audience in the most part, and more than a couple of times I thought to myself the roundhouse will be better. It was, by the bucket full. Much more the experience I wanted, to be standing in a dark packed out room with the music booming and the crowd far more alive. But the fan meet just added so much more to the collective experience of enjoying the event. I wonder how many faces I will spot back when I watch the dvd now. I got so into it, that I didnt even manage to meet up with one of my friends who was coming along for the gig. But I did meet up with an old friend who was coincidentally the first fan I met of another band when I first started meeting people through music, and she brought along her photo as proof of having seen the band once before in the 80's, which was a nice connection back to a long time ago and it span the evening of into talk of DM and OMD, and Human league concerts so who knows who we might go and see next if the opportunity arises, given she owes me a ticket now.

I also met an 11 year old kid with his dad. So there you go ultravox' new "accent of youth" right there.

What a great evening.

I knew I should have stayed. Bugger!

After a truly tremendous amount of good luck - which started with leaving Croydon late, which set in motion a most serendipitous train of events which surely qualifies me for the epithet of "Jammy Get"; having bellowed and roared along with the best of them at a gig I wasn't going to go to; and then having spoken with all four band members and Chris's absolutely charming wife back-stage afterwards; I thought I should be both feckin' grateful and terribly sensible and waddle my way along to Kentish Town station so I could trundle home and get at least a little sleep prior to a busy day, ostensibly of moving house. Well, for all I achieved - I ain't moved yet - I might as well have stayed up all night with a bunch of damn'd fine, lovely and tasteful folks and JD'd away both the night and my critical faculties with reckless abandon.

I salute you, ladies and gentlemen - new Europeans, passing strangers within, gigolos and gigolettes, those who know, (wo)men of two worlds and all - who saw the lamenting dawn rise over far Eden. You have felt the power, you have tasted old glory risen anew, you have earned your rest.

Thanks for that Brian.....withdrawal symptoms are setting in now so after an hour or so of tinkering to restore sound on you tube I'm having a wee Ultravox fix/binge on youtube footage to alleviate the symptoms. I'm still waiting for my daughter to upload her vids from Scotland so I'm grateful that you and others have put stuff online to keep us going until the DVD is available.

(Nearly 2 weeks after the event... shocked )

Another fantastic gig, and it was great to be almost at the front this time. Shame the very tall guy right at the front, dead centre couldn't have worn his hair down that evening, as it would have been good to have seen more of Chris (I was on Billy's side), but no matter - they looked and sounded fantastic once again!

I didn't make the pre-show Voxgate, as I was in the queue from 5.30, and wasn't sure what was going on after, so probably missed quite a few of you (Thomas? Slow Mo?) It was good to see Peter again, & Brian; and Amethyst - lovely to chat to you and your daughter afterwards! Tapio - always good to see you too!

Richard (who I was next to at the gig) - good to meet you, and I'll look out for your photos.

I'll try and sort some of mine out this side of 2010, as a few aren't bad; mind you - looking at everyone else's there are some brilliant ones out there!

Rob, and - albeit briefly - Cerise; good to see you both, you are as much a part of this tour as the band, and thanks again (and Paul) for all you have done for us fans.

For me, the magical gig was the Hammy O one; partly because of the venue (for old time's sake); partly because of it being my first gig this tour, but muchly (is that a word?!) because of the buzz that night; the Voxgate, Monument, just enjoying the experience with so many like-minded people!

Let's hope we get to do this again soon!

Natalie excited

Loved reading your thoughts Natalie. It was so nice to bump into you after the Roundhouse concert in the street, it almost felt as though I known you for a long time. smile . That's the one great thing about JF and Ultravox concerts being able to speak face to face with fellow fans even if we only see each other at gigs.

Peter
