Somebody should probably remind both John and Louis that older analogue synths really do have to be used in a well ventilated environment.

It's the epoxy resins in the motherboards, see. Too much excessive playing and everything goes ever-so-slightly Marlon Brando....

Hey! Maybe the next album will be Tiny Colourful Teddies?...

(A brief pause while I check the dictionary definition of 'teddies'. Ah, a form of apparel too....could be an interesting move for John: some video work may be on the cards there, eh?......)

What a sense of humour - that has to be said! Not sure I'd like to be trapped inside his mind...

It seems he's had a productive time indeed with Louis. So this will be the follow-up to Crash & Burn - all very exciting. Especially if we get it later this year.

I'm hoping they might premier some of the tracks on the tour, prior o the album's release...

Each to his own, Flip, but if you've been with him on his 'journey' since late 70s/early 80s, this shouldn't be surprising -it's obviously the opening to Quiet Man - Chapter 123! Hey, if the Cybermen can talk about 'uploads' and 'bluetooth', then John's down with the kids!!
(what's your teddy called?)

Craig - I have been "on the journey" since he went solo but I lost patience with that sort of student-y gobbledygook a long time ago. Or maybe my sense of humour is just different to his (probably the case). smile

Teddy's name is just...Teddy. He's been around since I was about 4 or 5 I think. Needs his leg stitching and a new eye (and then a good wash) but I'm rubbish with a needle and thread so he stays as is. smile

i agree with luna, its a great piece of writing, its reference and twisting of contemporary jargon make it both witty and clever. we know john is influenced by william burroughs so there is a bit of that in there too. i think maybe some of the people who are just laughing at it should take the time to analyse the way he is using language rather than just say its a load of rubbish and 'what's he on?' i dont really agree that it is just a bit of student gobbledygook - its far too 'knowing' to be that earnest.

Absolutely barnbrook!
Couldn't agree more.

These days tho, a lot of things are considered wierd if they require time and effort to understand.

One of the GREAT things about John is that he has never patronised his audience.
His writing style is in keeping with his music and art.
Not great literature obviously, but intelligent and sharp, and expecting something of the same from us.

Inspired sense of humour too.
The Burroughs reference is clever. Thanks for that.
Its a thread John has weaved through a lot of his work.
Very metamatic...

Well it doesn't appeal to my sense of humour so comes across as student-y gobbledygook. That doesn't make those who appreciate it more clever or those who think its daft nonsense any less...

Then again I never liked the extracts of The Quiet Man either.

Each to their own - surely we're all entitled to our opinion? nervouslaugh

Also, just written a posting on the TCM thread which talked about 'weaving' and J.G. Ballard, so hats off to you Birdsong, promise I didn't plagarise your previous posting!

This thread is very funny!!!

Well, I guess the secret of communication is to make oneself easily understood without the recipient having to make a big effort. It just depends on how easy you want to make yourself understood.

I have very big respect for John Foxx, without the shadow of a doubt. But as an outsider to his world and also a foreigner, I must confess that I did not understand his statement (was there any, and, if so, what would be the essence of it?). I guess other people may have the same problem with Michel Houellebecq, for instance.

Is this technically possible involving a teddy bear (mine is snow white, machine washable, called RUPERT and he is... 17 years old now, isn't he)...?

Having read all of John's ramblings on myspace and the remarks posted here, I must try to bring some sort of sense to the proceedings and get this thread back on track. Let's be completely frank, people, in all seriousness, HAVE WE EVER HEARD SUCH ABSURDITY IN ALL OUR LIVES???? It really is beyond belief, not funny, outrageous, and furthermore absolutely beyond the realms of reason to believe that, in this day and age, Lavaocean has got a teddy bear called RUPERT!!!!????

Well, you almost did, didn't you...? biglaugh

ALL JOKES ASIDE and regardless of this latest comment: last night I decided to apologise in this very thread JUST IN CASE anyone may have felt offended yesterday. And also out of respect for JF/DL.

I always take for granted that people have humour (which in direct communication is easier to verify and/or control). But of course in any written text, a lot of it can get lost, misinterpreted etc., and you can always come across someone who doesn't find it very funny if someone he adores etc. is dealt with with humour.

However, it is true: at second reading and analysing, the text in MYSPACE makes more sense than at first sight. I really really like John Foxx and absolutely respect him and his work. If anything else came across, please kindly accept my sincerest apoligies.

And take for granted that the greatest adorer of the Spanish touch of "Europe After The Rain" is... still.. me, I guess...

Just to say I've been very pleasantly surprised by John's blog. Very witty, and pretty original with it. I spent many years wishing for more JF music and now I realise I should've been wishing for more of his writing too!

Very impressed, and with the TCM sleevenotes too, of course. smile
