If I was to chose any vox it would be either Systems or Quartet. Both have great covers- but I just think the ones listed above are superbe

They're not all album covers but my favourite record cover artwork would have been the Marillion records such as Punch & Judy, Assassing & Script For A Jesters Tear. The AFOS picture discs have some pretty amazing artwork too.

My five (at the moment) include:

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (the most haunting album cover ever and quite iconic)

Billy Currie - Transportation - (The Itunes Black and White portrait is just a brilliant piece of photography love the font too)

Billy Currie - Refine (Just brilliant artwork/font and suits the music so well)

Hawkwind - Hall of the Mountain Grill (Great colours again suits the music)

Iron Butterfly - LIVE (a collage of hippies! It's what made me pull out the album from my dads vinyl collection from the 70's, and play it).

As for Ultravox:
Vienna - again the b&w photography is great and moody
Monument - Theres just something about that cover.

I've never had an eye for art but, when I was at school (a very long time ago) Autobahn by Kraftwerk and Bad for Good by Jim Steinman (for simplicity and fantasy respectively) are fondly recalled. As for Vox, I don't really know...Rage in Eden is overly abstract for my simple mind (aren't they a band?) so I'd probably plump for something uncomplicated like Vienna or Lament.

Great thread - I remember the days back in the early eighties, when I used to get the bus into town most weekends, and spending my hard earned cash on buying the latest vinyl releases and then sitting in my bedroom with my mates listening to the music and studying the fabulous (and not so fabulous) artwork that was such a large part of the packaging in those days.

Alas, that side of the musical product has slowly been eroded with the advent of CD's and now digital downloads.
I love the internet and the instant availability of music to download to your pc/ipod, but I miss the joy that I used to have in listening to the music while looking at the cover at the same time!

Now I think it's time for me to put those rose tinted specs back in the drawer laugh

My fav's in no particular order:
Heaven 17 - Penthouse and Pavement
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
Depeche Mode - Violator
Yazoo - Upstairs At Eric's

Ultravox/Visage
Vienna
Rage In Eden
Fade To Grey (single)
Dancing With Tears In My Eyes (single)
Love's Great Adventure (single)
