"Underpass" was actually originally called "Underpants" and concerned John's quest for snugly fitting undergarments. Likewise 'The Garden' was originally called 'The Garter'....

Meriseth I don't think anyone really knows for sure! In fact, there's an entire thread on the subject of John's age here . Mrs. X

"Standing in the shop Stroking my thighs Lifting up the Y-fronts Nothing in my size Underpants! (etc)" Would anyone else with too much time on their hands like to finish off the lyric?

Told you I had lots of time on my hands! I felt inspired and came up with this (includes the first verse already done): Standing in the shop Stroking my thighs Lifting up the Y-fronts Nothing in my size Underpants! Underpants! Well, I used to wear boxers Now they're all worn Wasn't it some...thing... They warmed somebody's bum Underpants! Underpants! Scouring through the britches I think I like those They're comfy at the same...time... Leg, leg, bum Underpants! Underpants! Snuggly on my ass now Crumpled on the floor They'll last for years...now... Leg, leg, bum Leg, leg, bum Leg, leg, bum Leg, leg, bum Leg, leg... Underpants! Underpants! Underpants! Underpants! (repeat to fade) What do you think?? Mrs. X

A parody contest! Brilliant! This brings to mind Flip Martian's unfinished story (which I love) called I Want To Be An Ice Cream. He should turn that into a song, and the there were the other parody titles on the front page of the story, like "The Pan That Fries Every Day," and "My Sacks." What do you say, Flip? Who would judge this one? Warren as well? Could he handle it?!?! Mrs. X

Maybe a truly Ultravox rendition of "Shaduppa-Da-Face" might find a home here (rather than where it belongs, at the bottom of Sydney Harbour wearing concrete flip-flops) ? You're welcome. Can't really see an Ultravox-like "Shaddup Your Face" though. Wouldn't sound good, and I think Warren would blacklist the person responsible! I'd rather stay in his good books. Let it stay at the bottom of Sydney Harbour where it belongs!!! Mrs. X

Thanks. Actually, since you mentioned it, I must give credit to Mr. X for the "leg leg bum" bit, as I couldn't think of anything in place of "click click drone!" That, of course, was an explanation of how one puts on underpants. Brilliant! I Want To Be an Ice Cream eh? Blimey, I thought I was doing ok with "Satday Nite..." in episode 3... Actually I haven't a CLUE what the original lyrics are to "I Want To Be..." at the moment - I'll have to go away and have a few listens. If anyone wants to give it a go in the meantime, please do... I might give it a go, if you don't beat me to it. I need to listen to the original a few times myself! But I might be able to come up with something. By the way, Phil...check your inbox. I answered your email and happened to mention this, having not come here first! Mrs. X

If I get involved in this, Cerise will have no option but to ban me from the forum (and with inspiration coming from the likes of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's Derek & Clive and Australia's own Rodney Rude, is it any wonder?)! You should hear my version of Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire... Ash: You'd certainly appreciate it!

Obviously I've nothing better to do JUST FOR A MOMENT and some of the parodies appeal to my sense of humour. I love all Johns songs to bits but I can't help but to think of some new titles. No one skiving, This bungle, Bridal wave,

Ok, three things: 1. I'm bored 2. I've got a cold 3. I had half an hour to kill
I want to be an Ice Cream
I hate the cones and the coke floats Licked by the Brighton Belle While seagull gourmets circle overhead To pick off your ‘Strawberry Choc Shell’ ‘Vorsprung Durch Technik’ An Audi passes by In tracks left by the tyres, ladies What’s left of your ‘99’ As I spy the photographers Snapping models beneath the pier Chorus: I want to be an Ice Cream I want to be an Ice Cream I want to be an Ice Cream I want to be an Ice Cream
I stole a ‘Funny face’ from the cameramen And an opened can of pop In the doorway of a video store I sink my teeth into their lollipop If I had the cash and the means I’d buy my own Ice cream treats But right now I’d steal an unfinished ‘Cornetto’ From the sweaty grasp of my friends I hope your fridges are all safe from me I want to steal your Ice Cream I want to steal your Ice Cream I want to steal your Ice Cream I want to steal your Ice Cream
Not for me, scrambled eggs A fry up, I couldn’t care less Let the sunburnt tourists get their thrills From a Jellied Eel stall in Shoeburyness Give me a stolen ‘Tango’ And a ‘magnum’ nicked from a dozy mare I’ll run away with what I’ve ‘borrowed’ Leaving my pockets with cash to spare For the arcades and the amusements beside the sea I want to steal your Ice Cream I want to steal your Ice Cream I want to steal your Ice Cream I want to steal your Ice Cream
Walls!
Thank you, I'm here all week, try the chicken kiev!
